Introduction: My name is David M. McCray. I am offering music lessons, in my home or yours.
I offer instruction in composition, music theory , aural skills, saxophone, flute, guitar and bass guitar.
I have an M. M. (Master of Music) with an emphasis in jazz arranging from Northern Illinois University. I also currently hold a P.E.L. (Professional Teaching License), Type 10 - Standard Special (K-12) - Music, and have experience teaching private instrumental music lessons to students from age eight through adult.
I have played gigs in many bands in ten states over the years, and I have also played solo shows (blues, folk and original compositions) in Iowa, Illinois and Alaska.
I record my original compositions in my home-based project recording studio. I have self-produced five CDs since 2004 namely: Bootstraps (2004); Prospect St. (2007); The Promise (2010); Selfish World (2012); Blues and Folk (2012 - old time blues and folk covers).
I have an intimate familiarity with Abode's Audition recording software, as well as the Sibelius musical notation software. I have a great ear, and I incorporate aural skills into my lessons. My master's degree from NIU in jazz arranging prepares me to teach music theory in lessons as well.
