About this pro

How does your service stand out?

I design and create my quilts and then I customize them in color and texture and size. These two factors bring together my client and I to create an heirloom of memories.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I enjoy receiving the materials to work with and then taking an item and transforming it into something completely different. Example -- T-shirt into a beautiful grouping of memories in a quilt. This is also my escape - I am a full time caregiver. My quilts allow me to be around my loved ones to assist them and gives me the outlet to relax.

Linda did an amazing job. I sent her, literally, almost 100 pieces of clothing, from t-shirts, to bowling towels, to socks, to my mom's old sleeping mask. I wanted bits and pieces of things included that only have meaning to me. She designed the quilt with artistry, care, concern, and sensitivity. I'm thrilled and moved by the result. It was a bigger job than we first anticipated, and yes, it took a bit longer than we expected -- but she took the time to get things exactly right, and I appreciate that. I actually cried when it arrived. Many, many thanks :-)

Linda has been very responsive to my questions and prompt with her answers. Her price seems reasonable for the work involved. Hand quilting is a skill not easily found. She is quilting a quilt top from my husbands great aunt.I have had for over 40 yrs and could never find anyone to complete. Job has not been done yet, but I have every confidence it will be a heirloom to treasure.

My experience with Linda was absolutely wonderful. She made a beautiful memory quilt from 4 pairs of my dad's old jeans. My dad passed away 7 years ago. He died in his sleep without any warning. He was only 71 years old and was in good health. After enjoying retirement for a short period of time he was suddenly "gone". Even though I am an adult with 4 grown children of my own, I was still "daddy's little girl". Somehow I stumbled upon Thumbtack. I had never heard of the site before. I researched the website the best I could. I entered the information requested by Thumbtack and explained my situation. I was very hesitant to deal with a total stranger that was almost 1,000 miles away. The jeans had a monetary value of "zero", but they meant the world to me. Linda walked me through the quilt making process. We communicated by text. She explained how the project would go.. step by step. I never felt as if I were left in the dark. She kept me informed of her progress by sending updates with pictures. It's not possible for me to express how happy I am with the quilt she made. Linda is a very talented and detailed person. It's almost like she is a mind reader. I only supplied the denim. I sent her a text message explaining the colors of other fabrics I wanted to incorporate into the quilt. She chose exactly what I had hoped for. I couldn't be happier and I will cherish this quilt forever. I am thankful that I went with my instincts and pushed aside the thought of dealing with a stranger. It's not only a beautiful piece of work but it is usable as well. In the planning process I told Linda that I wanted to use this quilt as well as display it. So, I wanted to be able to wash and dry it. I hope she is able to post photos for everyone to see her beautiful work. I am also thankful for Thumbtack. Without them this would not have been possible. Kim Head Alabama

Linda made a quilt from baby clothes, tee shirts and other saved items. She communicated with me regularly, sent me the design and worked with me to revise it, and incorporated new items I'd found even after our initial agreement. The quilt was done early and is just what I wanted. It has wonderful stitching detail; she obviously put time into this project and has great sewing skills. I highly recommend her.

Linda did a fantastic job with my husband's Rock Concerts Memory Quilt. She far exceeded my expectations with all the intricate work she performed; the quilting she did around the faces of the musicians made them stand out in 3-D almost! My husband is going to be thrilled to get this for Christmas; it has been a project that was sitting in a drawer for 20 years and Linda made it all happen. I sent her the quilt top that I had pieced together and she had it quilted in less than a month. She does live with a smoker, so the quilt did smell like smoke when I got it, but after washing, it was fine. Who wouldn't wash a quilt anyway before using it?

Linda is wonderful. She made me a beautiful memory quilt. I contacted Linda, a few weeks before Christmas, with the idea of a quilt gift for my husband. Initially, Linda did not think she would have it done for Christmas, which was fine. However, she worked very hard and tirelessly, and suprised me by having it done before Christmas! The quilt was a beautiful composition of many memories. She customized the quilting on the squares to match the theme of the square, and the quilt as a whole. Very nice touch - above and beyond. Linda is very professional and does beautiful work. Just small notations: I did expect more machine stitching, there was a lot of hand stitching. I am not a quilt expert, so perhaps that is what is standard. And, finally, the quilt did have a cigarette smoke odor. I did wash it before I gave it to my husband to rid the odor. All in all, very pleased and would highly recommend Linda.

Love the quilt! Linda made the process very easy. From start to finish (she completed the project ahead of schedule) she was always communicating what part of the quilting process she was working on. She sent emails and pictures so communication was great. The finished quilt is better than I expected and I know my son will feel the same. Can't wait to give it to him for the holidays. Will have her make a quilt for my daughter as soon as we can gather and sort through her t-shirts.

I came upon Linda by chance when I was looking through Thumbtack to find someone who could make a graduation "Memory" quilt for me. I knew what I wanted was a quilt made from all of my son's old precious t-shirts I had saved from his toddler years until his Sr. year in High School. Linda met with me and made it easy to make my gift a reality!! It turned out even better than I expected! She did an amazing job putting all the different logos and t-shirts together, emailing me along the way with photos so that we could get it just as I wanted. She did an incredible job of quilting it all by hand and outlined some of the figures on the t-shirts as well! It is a one of a kind gift for him and I was thrilled to have her talent and expertise in putting it together as I wanted it. The quilt was finished much sooner than I had expected it...and was even more wonderful than I had imagined! I am surely going to recommend her to my friends and neighbors! A BIG thanks to Linda Coulombe!

Linda created a custom table runner for me. She was a pleasure to work with and accomodated several changes I asked for. Her ability to provide a graphic design in color really helped me visualize the end product. Her quilting skills are excellent. I love my table runner! I highly recommend her.

Linda did a MAGNIFICENT job on the quilt she created for me (included in her pictures). She took a box of sorority/college t-shirts that I would never wear again (yet did not want to completely part with), and converted them into a useable memory quilt that I will be able to pass down to my children. Linda consistently gave me updates about her progress on my quilt and was very responsive to my desires and specifications (and I was picky :-)). She was extremely easy and pleasant to work with. Her artistic talent is evident in my quilt's embroidered detailing and creative placement of my t-shirts. Also, although time was not of the essence to me with my quilt, she gave me an estimated time of completion, and completed it within that time frame - very true to her word and trustworthy. I highly recommend her if you are looking for quality, diligence, and dedication when preserving your memories.

Q&A

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
My typical process is - one establish a pricing base with my client, then receive the materials for the quilts, create a layout with the help of my computer, get the approval of the design and then the cutting and sewing begins. Usually the whole process takes THREE MONTHs.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your service? If so, please share the details here.
Each quilt I make is unique. I have basic pricing for the bed size. I must add pricing for special material, this is discussed prior to designing and creating the quilt. An expedite fee of $75.00 is charged if the time required for the quilt is less than three months.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have always loved sewing, through grade school and high school I sewed most of my clothes. This was a natural progression after working as a draftsmen for years, I combined the two skills to give back to others and amke a difference for them.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have had clients from all across the country. I have made quilts from sweaters, dresses, hockey jerseys and t-shirts. Each quilt is unique, each quilt is made with tender loving care.
Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?
I recently made a set of three quilts for a client. One was for his wife, two for the surviving brothers. This was a challenge to include prized clothing in all three quilts. There was a common thread in all the quilts -- his sports number. These quilts are hugs and memories of a family member, now an angel.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would suggest that clients meet with the provider and view the products if possible. Sometimes the photographs of quilts don't tell the whole story and seeing them bring the craft into the light.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
Designing custom quilts can be a communication nightmare, but now with computer communication, the process is much easier. I design the quilts on the computer and send a PDF file for the client to approve. After the revisions and approval, I start the sewing. I send updated pictures along the way to keep my clients informed. I always ask a client if I can post the pictures of their completed quilts. This open format saves time and travel and allows my clients to be part of the process.
