Carl did everything he could to accommodate our needs during the preparation leading up to the wedding. We had a general idea of what kind of music we wanted and his online system made it so easy to narrow down the perfect play list. When we didn't have any preference for specific pre-party and dinner music he anticipated our needs and played some great tunes. He was professional, very well prepared and flexible even when things changed last minute during our event. All of our guests said the music was awesome. I recommend him very highly, and we will definitely be using his services in the future if we need a DJ!!!

Emil was prompt and flexible in responding to a very last-minute request I had for a videographer for our wedding. People seemed to like his presence, and can't wait to see the footage! Price was very reasonable compared to many other companies that market themselves as videographers for weddings.

Where do I begin - well, let's just say that all my groomsmen and all of the bridesmaids that have yet to get married swore that they will be using Velvet Oaks for their weddings. The only problem will be booking them in time because of how great they are. Joe and the rest of his team are true professionals with amazing vision. Being the groom, I had enough to think about and didn't even think to worry about the videographers - luckily, I had the best ones around. From the start of our special day until the very end, we had a camera man following use to capture every moment we wanted captured. When we saw the trailer of our wedding video (I recommend you pay for it - well worth it), my wife and I were floored. We couldn't wait for the full video - when we saw the full video, we forgot how much took place and some stuff we didn't even get to see. Luckily it was beautifully captured. If you really need to, look around first and then chat with Velvet Oaks - but you'll be wasting your time talking to others as you will end up booking these guys. A+

I had been working with Harry to prepare for filming our wedding this Friday. We set up a meeting three days before the wedding date at which he said we no longer need a contract and demanded the entire payment for the project up front. This was the first time I had heard of this and I was thrown off by how it came out of the blue. Nowhere in his e-mails, website, contract, or in any of our conversation did it come up that he requires payment up front. I told him I was willing to give half and he told me that "That's not how I do buisness." He said that people usually pay him when he shows up to do the job. I agreed and said I would pay him half and how and half the day of the job. He said "that's not how I do business." He said he was sure I could find someone else to work with and got up and walked out of the restaurant. I was stunned! He has not returned any of my calls, e-mails, or texts. He has the right to ask for whatever terms he wants, but he needs to make that clear up front or put it in the contract, not drop it into a conversation three day before the wedding and then walk out when I question him. It was especially weird in that it came right after telling me he doesn't need a contract. It felt very off to me. I was not comfortable paying him in full under the circumstances and I felt like I was being railroaded into a last-minute bait and switch. He was unwilling to talk about it, negotiate, or show any sign of professionalism or care. He walked out as soon as he didn't get his way. I am angry that I am three days out from my wedding and I have no videographer! I did not see this coming!

I can't say enough lovely things about All Corporate Video and Photo. Mike Kozuchowski was so fantastic to work with- I was looking for a last minute photographer for an event I was throwing only a few days before the event. Mike was nothing but professional, easy to work with and went above and beyond what was asked of him. I will definitely work with him again in the future, when another project comes up and I highly recommend to anyone that is looking for a photographer and or a videographer. Thanks Mike!

KMc was great to work with. On the day of the event, their videographer came early and took video of the hall from different angles. During the event, he not only captured all the important moments, he also had guests share special messages. KMc kept us up to date on the video editing and were receptive to the changes we requested. Once the final edits were put together, we received the finalized copy within a week. Thanks for everything!

Phil is a real pro. Communication prior to the shoot was outstanding. Phil is extremely conscientious. He has first-rate equipment and knows his business inside and out. He arrived exactly on time, set up in the time allowed, and did a great job of organizing the set and lighting. Phil is very easy to work with, and one of the best videographers I have met in my extensive travels. Videos look great! I highly recommend him and will not hesitate to use him again when I am in the area.

I have worked with a number of photographers over my 40 year as a clay artist, and Lane Cameron is , by far the best of any of them as far as professionalism and quality of his work. The work was done in and around my studio in suburban Chicago. Lane spent most of an afternoon on the job, and I cannot think of anything that could have been done better. I would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for quality work done in a skilled and professional manner

We are extremely pleased with the photographs Markowski Photography took for our son's baptism. We are especially happy with the black and white candid photos taken during the actual baptism. The photos of the blessings and the church were absolutely beautiful. They captured every aspect of the event and us as a family and gave a beautiful description of our family's joy. He also took candid photos of our family and friends and captured our son's joy and laughter during the event and the party following. He engaged our son very well so that our son was very happy to take photos with everyone and they came out beautifully. Everyone has been raving at how beautiful they were and how well they captured the joy and emotion of our family. Konrad was very professional, kept in contact, followed up quickly, responded to all calls and emails and delivered the photographs on time as promised. Beautiful photos, beautiful quality. We highly recommend Markowski Photography and will absolutely be contacting Konrad again for our next family photo needs.

Ed was fantastic... I cannot recommend him enough - from the professionalism, to the creativity, time management, flexibility, and dedication to the project - he was flawless throughout the entire process. We had a lot of specifications and without hesitation he created solutions when presented with constraints. Ed delivered the final product a week ahead of schedule and exceeded expectations at every opportunity. Without a doubt, Ed will be my first call for all future projects. Ed is truly in a league of his own. A class act, incredible videographer, and brilliant team member - Ed is a master in his craft and Homesick Blues Productions is by far the best decision you can make for your film project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
