Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I have a high level of expertise in both classical and jazz music and can challenge even the most advanced students to achieve more and learn new concepts. I have nearly a decade of private teaching experience to students of all ages and backgrounds. I have degrees in both classical and jazz piano as well as music composition. In addition to piano, I teach music composition, music theory, and arranging. I also have a personable, friendly manner that younger, beginner students respond well to and feel comfortable around. I personalize the lesson plans and curriculum to each individual student and do not have a "one-size-fits-all" approach to piano pedagogy. I teach a wide range of styles from classical masters like Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, and Debussy to jazz greats such as Bill Evans, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, and Herbie Hancock as well as blues, pop music, and film soundtracks. I love to see students come alive in their appreciation and love for music. Students gain tremendous personal confidence as they master a skill and express themselves through the music. Whether they are writing their own music or learning and interpreting the music of others, it is an irreplaceably valuable experience, and one that will serve them well whether they pursue a career in music or a different career.

Matthew has been teaching my 8 years old daughters for two months now. His knowledge of music is quite impressive, and he is really good with kids: he keeps them interested and engaged, and that's not an easy task. Girls are already showing good progress. We are all very happy to have Matt as a piano teacher.

Matt is amazing!!! He really made my wedding music as elegant as can be! He even allowed me to pick 10 extra songs that I personally chose that he played live. I HIGHLY recommend him. He is very professional and extremely talented!

Matt did a beautiful job with the music for our wedding last weekend. He is flawless and working with him was delightful. Eveybody that attended our ceremony praised what wonderful music we had. Thank you so much for making my wedding ceremony beautiful!

Matt was above and beyond what we expected and was perfect for our occasion. We'll be having Matt back again soon. I gave him a basic idea of the style of music we were looking for and he took that and crafted a beautiful playlist (some he composed himself) that helped make an unforgettable evening. Thanks again Matt!!!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My pricing depends on many variables including lesson length and distance traveled vs. in-home lessons. I do offer sibling discounts. Please send me a message to get a quote!

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I typically have a conversation with a potential student and parents to discuss goals and expectations. Some students will want to prepare for music school auditions, and some will just want the enjoyment of playing tunes on the piano - everybody has different goals and I strive to work alongside the student and their family in their goals. I have a concise studio policy .pdf that I send out to make any scheduling, billing, etc. questions as clear as possible. I want everybody to be on the same page right from the start.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have extensive training in piano performance - I took piano lessons starting at age 5 and have multiple music degrees - a Bachelor's in Music Composition and Classical Piano Performance from Wheaton College's Conservatory and a masters in jazz studies and performance from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington. At Indiana I studied with David Baker, Luke Gillespie, and Steve Houghton.
