I had a hardwood floor resurfaced in one of my bedrooms and after 3 estimates I chose A Plus Decorating. They explained in detail the job, provided a competitive estimate, and worked within my schedule. The workers were on time every day, they laid tarps to cover the in & out of getting tools and equipment over my rugs, were professional, efficient, neat, cleaned up all the mess and the floor looks great. I am very satisfied with the finished floor. I will use them again.

Shawn just finished stretching carpets in several rooms in my home. He arrived right on time, was extremely professional, did a terrific job and was very reasonably priced. I'd highly recommend him to anyone that's looking for carpeting work. I plan to use him for our next install as well.

I am very happy with the final result of our new carpet. Luis was our installer whom showed us the samples and installed the carpet. He and his team worked very hard and cared for our existing property as well. Only a few things that would have been nice: 1) It would have been nice to meet the person I was communicating with via phone and email. I like Luis but he doesn't have insight on prices while he is showing the samples. After looking at so many and then waiting to hear what the costs are from Jai for the ones we liked was too hard to remember which was which. Whereas having all that information at the time of looking at the carpet would be nice. Also knowledge about the carpets and pros and cons would be nice to know while looking at them as well. Lastly, it would have been nice to have samples to keep so we could feel totally sure of which one we wanted. But again, overall we are happy with the price, service we received and our new carpet looks wonderful! They were always on time and very respectful. Thank you Luis, Jai and team. :)

After posting I was in need of carpet installation, I was contacted by Luis with and estimate price per sq/ft. We had a quick conversation on the phone and Luis agreed to come check out the house for a free estimate. Take into consideration I live in Indiana now and Luis is over by Chicago. Nonetheless, after taking time to come meet and check out the project within two weeks I decided to pull the trigger and get the job done. From the beginning until the end Luis was very responsive, professional and easy to talk to. The best part is that he showed me different options of carpets and underlayment and never seemed like he was trying to upsell but instead look out after my best interest. It also didn’t hurt that he had the best pricing( out of about 4). The carpet install looks amazing and I honestly couldn’t be happier. They were on time, very efficient workers and best part is that they finished the job faster than they said they would. Would definitely recommend! Great customer service 👍🏽

DRYWALL The job we requested was for drywall and painting. We contacted Steamatic for an estimate to take out a wall between our LR and DR for an open concept floor plan, and put up drywall for more kitchen cabinets. Their estimate was considerably lower and included a carpet cleaning after the job was done. Totally love my new first floor! The flow is so nice and we have room to expand a table for family gatherings. I chose new kitchen cabinets and have plenty of storage and display space for tableware and decorative pieces handed down to me from family. Hoping to have Steamatic remodel our basement, for a second family room with wine cellar. My experience working with Bo and crew members was great. They always cleaned up, never came too early or stayed late(we have small kids), and kept within our budget. If you have a home project and are looking for a contractor, contact Steamatic.

there are couple things I do not like, I just paint the whole house before new carpet installation, but after carpet installation, I see one black palms print on my wall, also another wall area has 2X2 sf scratches by carpets. I have to repaint all those areas, terrible carpet installation job. there is another accident too, the installation guys locked them out from my house, when I tried to call lock smith to open the door, the installation guy used a screw driver to force open the lock, and damaged the front door, I have to pay locksmith $25 trip fee, and will cost me more to repair damaged door.

Picking out the type of carpet you want can be a little overwhelming. Loved the fact that Kevin explains the benefits of the various brands and then lets you make the decision. Also love not having that noisy squeak in our bedroom anymore. Thanks, Kevin. Our new carpet in two of our bedrooms looks great.

Everything about this project exceeded expectations and I cannot recommend them strongly enough. Vince was very helpful in guiding us to the perfect style and quality of carpeting for our new home. Pricing was spot on, installation was very fast and very well done and we couldn't be happier. And we're reminded of just how nice the carpet is when every single person that steps foot on the carpeting comments on how nice it feels. Call Vince with complete confidence. He's super friendly, professional, helpful, patient and just one heck of a nice guy. You'll see.

I have a burn mark on my carpet , plus I also wanted to get my carpet deep cleaned. I searched for multiple providers called many of them. Nothing really worked our, finally uploaded carpet photos to Thumbtack and got quote, i then chatted with Michael, good thing was I was quoted a single rate all inclusive, helped me make a decision quicker, with no hidden costs. He was here at the agreed time, did a brilliant job of replacing the burnt carpet and deep cleaning. Moving the furniture around, removing small stains all done. Definitely recommended and I would hire premium carpets in the future...

We wanted to replace our 10 year old carpet with hardwood so we had David come in and give us an estimate. He provided us with the pros and cons of the different options. We decided on going with bamboo. Less than a week later we had all 3 rooms fully completed and for a good price. I don't know when they finished exactly, but when I got home from work, I found David waiting for me to get home so that he could make sure that the installation was done to our satisfaction. It is a beautiful floor and very expertly installed. I would recommend Banigan's to anyone in need of new flooring. They do great work and give you exactly what you want without trying to push more on to you than you want or can afford.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

  • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
  • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
  • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
  • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
  • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
