Quality work. Gracie & Marek are easy to work with. We had a complete bathroom remodel done, demo down to the studs. Could not be happier with how it turned out. Also had new floor, window & door installed in a half bath. Everything done in 10 days .

Fully satisfied with fence installation and service. Only wish there was not such a delay from time I accepted proposal until time of installation. Project was weather dependent thus delay not entirely due to QHR. I will recommend QHR and consider for future projects.

We had been getting bids for a couple weeks from different contractors to have almost all our windows replaced and the price gap between quotes were pretty disconcerting. Also, some other contractors told us we could not do this or that for some reason. Russ was our last bid before making a decision. We did not need to tell him our budget range. His bid was fair. We did not feel pressure with our decision to close the deal. He kept us updated along the way and checked in on us to make sure we were happy. We had other projects come up such as flooring, ceiling/wall repair and a new skylight and we are currently working with him to have completed. We also did a walk-through with him upon completion of the window project with some minor cosmetic issues and he is also resolving. He has really been helping us making this the house of our dreams and we feel very comfortable with him and trust his help and guidance. Thanks Russ!

I will be recommending Markside Inc. to all my friends and family for their roofing and siding needs. Mark was professional, responsive to all my questions, easy to contact, and is obviously committed to providing quality services and products. Our roofing situation was unusual, and his understanding and accommodations were much appreciated. The new roof was installed correctly and with expert finishings that portrays excellent craftsmanship. We will be going back to Markside for any of our future siding or roofing needs.

Ed did an excellent job. I love my kitchen remodel. I get so many compliments on my new backsplash. He had cabinets, dishwasher and counter tops installed quickly. Plus installed a new window, ceiling fan and doors. He even did some minor upgrades at no cost, like changing my outlets. Was veryour friendly and efficient. Already have plans for him to do more work, backsplash in my bathroom and flooring in basement.

I hired Mark to complete the majority of a bathroom remodel. I hired his team to install drywall, mud and tape the drywall. I also had him tile the shower and the floor. Mark also did the shower plumbing, installed a new tub, fixed a bad tub drain, hung two doors, installed casing and framed a window. Mark's price was reasonable. He was not the cheapest, nor the most expensive. But his communication led me to hiring him. The job was expected to take 5 days, however he ended up finishing on a Saturday. He is honest, very giving with advice and does good work. He is a jack of all trades and if I ever need a hand, I now have contractor I can trust. I recommend him to my friends if they need some work done.

I had James DeLeo's company perform a large window replacement project on my home. We replaced 10 large windows on the 2nd story of my home. I had a very specific style and finish that I was looking for and James was able to meet my specs precisely. The project was completed on time and at the price agreed upon. The windows have performed above my expectations and James even made follow up calls after the project was complete to make sure all my questions were answered. Very good customer service and easy to do business with.

We had a couple of leaks inside of our house due to some bad workmanship from the contractors that flipped our house and installed the roof. Pete and Nick came out in a timely manner, very professional, great responsiveness. They came out and made the necessary repairs and i'm very happy we went with them.

I hired HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla by the recommendation of my heating and air conditioning contractor. I hired him for an insurance claim for hail damage to my aluminum siding, he worked with the insurance adjuster for almost 2 months to get me the most that he could from the insurance company. They ended up paying for partial of the siding that was damaged but more than what they first offered because Joel brought to their attention many things they had missed. Instead of replacing the siding with aluminum again I upgraded to vinyl and paid the difference of the upgrade. I also had him install all 15 new windows that were well over due to be replaced. Joel is very easy to work with the crews that came to do the work were very professional and thorough. Any problems that arose were taken care of immediately and professionally. I plan on having HGR Construction Services, Joel Sevilla re-roof my house this coming spring. I would recommend Joel 100%.

Gary was extremely knowledgeable and gave me a detailed breakdown of all my options. He did not try to sell me new windows as the only option, and was truly the best man for the job. We had 2nd floor custom windows that needed both glass panes replaced. He did an excellent job and I would highly recommend him to anyone.

Fantastic job! We had some very tedious painting to be done (doors, windows and trim) and it looks wonderful. They were able to do it within a week, very professional and reasonably priced. Will be working with Marcin for more projects around the house and would recommend to anyone.

Would absolutely recommend and hire again. We were quoted a 6-10 week delivery and it took nearly 6 weeks to get the windows measure. That was extremely frustrating, but the owner, Jon, was in contact with us the whole time and gave us updates even after final measurements. We were finally able to get on the schedule for end of October, and were contacted last minute to pull in the date. We could accommodate so we received installation two weeks earlier than scheduled. The crew is great, Jon is great and the windows were installed perfectly. We couldn't be happier with how the final product turned out, and Jon's willingness to keep us informed and do what he can to pull in dates makes the wait well worth it.

Jerry is very nice guy, and he came to me twice to discuss the window project. His price is very reasonable, and he ordered high quality windows. The window installation process was very smooth, and passed the village inspection without any problems. I would use Jerry or Remodel Rangers again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
