Salvo and Cam are very experienced and recognized immediately that some conversion was needed to install the water heater I purchased. Salvo needed additional parts. After a trip to the Home Depot, the work commenced and the water heater installed. Salvo is very conscientious and cleaned up the area after the installation. Pricing was more than fair and the work expertly completed. I will recommend ISA to anyone who needs plumbing work. The only plumber I will call is ISA Euro Construction.

We had a few minor plumbing issues to fix - a toilet that had a broken seal, a sink lacking hot water, & a sink needing the removal of a water filtration system. Everything was fixed in one visit and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

George is very professional, and he arrived 15 minutes earlier. He purchased a new water heater after he took a look of old one. And about 1 hour, he finished installation of new water heater. After one night, so far so good, hot water is there. I would use George again for my next project.

Responded very quickly to initial inquiry and my subsequent questions regarding a water heater replacement . Provided a unit that met my stated needs - didn't try to upsell. Price was very competitive. Was available the following morning - arrived on time and completed the water heater installation efficiently and professionally. Final bill was as quoted - no surprises. Would hire again.

I chose Brian at LoPrestis Services after vetting several vendors and considering other outside estimates and I am glad that I did! He replaced an ancient water heater that had a busted drain valve, making a standard replacement even more difficult, but he worked quickly and thoroughly to complete the removal and installation. He even offered to pick up the new water heater from Home Depot as a courtesy saving me time and money. The new heater works great! I strongly recommend choosing Brian for your project.

Mike did a great job on my water heater replacement project. He did what he said he was going to do, when he said he was going to do it for a fair and reasonable price. He was careful moving things in and out and his work was of high quality. He also went above and beyond to correct a couple issue he identified when completing the job. Would not hesitate to use him again or recommend him to a friend or neighbor.

We contacted JDM Contracting & Home Services to replace an outside spigot which had developed a leak in an inside wall by our front door. David contacted me for more information in less than 24 hours and set up an appointment to fix the problem. He had to open the wall ( which was done with minimal damage) and replace the faucet. He was very courteous and professional. Not only did he replace the faucet, but also did a basic patch job on the opening which left me with minimal wall repair to do. He said that he could paint it but would have to come back after the patch dried; and I said I could do it myself. Not all plumbing people fix the wall that they might have to damage to get to the problem. The price was very reasonable also. I was very happy with David's work and would recommend his services to anyone looking for any kind of home repair or work from a small plumbing repair to much larger remodeling jobs which I understand his company does. His attention to detail is a winner for me! R. Watson Hoffman Estates

I hired Chris to install an AO Smith Power Vent 50 gallon water heater. Chris arrived at our scheduled time and assisted with wheeling the water heater to my basement. After determining and collecting the neccesary plumbing parts. Chris completed the install perfectly in a timely proffesional manner and even hauled off the old heater. Very resonable price for a job well don. I plan on using Chris for any future house repairs and remodeling services. Highly Recommended.

This was an excellent experience! We live in an area that got flooded severely and couldn't find anyone local to install our new water heater. Everyone was either not accepting new jobs or booked for close to a month. I tried going through a big box store and the quote was more than the water heater. Then I tried Thumbtack and Waterbender was able to come sooner and install it for 1/3 the price. They even drove 2 hours each way to do it. Highly recommend!!!

Jason provided a high level of service. We had other HVAC/Boiler vendors and all of them recommended a boiler based on the square footage of the unit as opposed to the length of the coils in the house. Jason properly measured and recommended a boiler for us that was not only right for the space, but right for the existing infrastructure. Jason was professional, very knowledgeable, punctual and did the work at a very fair price. Jason also installed a water heater for us the same day. I highly recommend Jason for boiler and water heater installations!

We were referred to Mr.Tuohy from a friend. We called him because our water heater was not heating. He arrived as we got home at 5:30 and informed us that our water heater was installed 2001 and we needed a new one. He asked us if we wanted hot water the morning with a laugh. He than followed us to home depot and helped us pick one out. we brought it to our house and installed it. He was there to 11:30 and we had hot water for work in the morning. USE HIM!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.
