- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
All voice or guitar 30 minute lessons are $27, all 45 minute lessons are $41, all 60 minute lessons are $55.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I speak with students about their voice/guitar and learning goals. For voice students, I ask the student to prepare and sing a whole song for me at their first lesson. After a range check and some warm up exercises, the student sings the prepared song. I listen and them tell the student what I hear. I discuss their strengths and weaknesses and talk about where I could help their voice improve. I ask the student to evaluate and let me know if I am the right person for their continued instruction based on our lesson and discussions. For guitar, I have the student discuss what they want to do with their guitar playing. I give an overview of how I teach and what we can learn in a particular time period. I mix note reading, chord and strumming in each lesson.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
As a member of the American Choral Directors Association, I attend yearly conferences where clinicians discuss vocal methods, styles, repertoire and in depth vocal and conducting issues related to teaching voice and choral music. As a member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), I keep updated on information about the voice and the singing world. As a performing musician, I experience the same issues many students have and am continually striving to improve any weakness I have by rehearsing, reviewing and discussing music with other professional musicians. I also expand my music repertoire by learning new styles and pieces of music by myself and in groups. I also assist my fellow choir members by running sectional rehearsals and sharing vocal techniques to enhance the musicality of a piece.
