Bobby has his team are top-notch. They are professional, keep you up to date as they are working. He shows up when he says he will and they charge a fair price. I will hire this contractor again and have no reservations whatsoever about recommending Bobby and his for your project. You will not be disappointed.

They re top of the line! And work on their feet. Love small business owners. Have referred them to family. And, as an added value which you don't get from the typical contractors, they educated me....Will definitely recommend them! Good people.

Rockwell Remodeling saved my sanity. House is 10 years old and we were the second owners. Two windows never closed properly and no one could figure out why. Rockwell took the time to research online, call manufacturer and spent two different times at my house working on the windows. He figured it out! Come to find out when installed they never took out all of the packing protection - it looked just like part of the window. All of the windows now close! Thank you so much.

We are selling our house and we requested a quote from The Finishing Touches for interior paintin - Myron Drake came to our home to take a look and provide an estimate. We had received several quotes in the process and Myron's quote wasn't the highest or the lowest. We decided to go with Myron because he was the only painter who showed up on time and was very friendly and professional. We immediately felt that he had the expertise to do a good job. When Myron's team showed up to do the painting, his entire crew was dressed in matching shirts - they were on time every day (or even a little early). Everyone was very friendly and professional - they immediately went to work and you could tell Myron runs a tight ship. The painters were all supervised by Myron and Myron also did a lot of painting and repairs. The crew took excellent care to protect the walls, cabinets and other areas of the house from damage or paint splashes by covering everything. During the painting, we did several walk-throughs to point out missed areas, and Myron's crew immediately corrected even the smallest blemish. The Finishing Touches painted our entire house - when they were through, they cleaned up everything and made sure I was 110% satisfied. Myron Drake is an experienced, professional, friendly and highly skilled painter. Our house looked like new when they were done. We are extremely pleased with his team's work and would highly recommend Myron and The Finishing Touches for your house painting or other home remodeling.

Mike was prompt, courteous and professional. He did an excellent job on my needed drywall repair and completed it in one day. His pricing was much better than other contractors that contacted me. I will look to have Mike do other handyman work in the future.

We hired KR Home Builders to build a new room in our basement (framing, hanging drywall, finishing). Robert was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional - he gave us advice about where to put the closet/how to cover electrical boxes etc, and as always quick to respond to any questions we had. The work he and his colleague did was of excellent quality, and they were consistently punctual and hardworking - the job was completed before we knew it! I can highly recommend this business. It also didn’t hurt that they were by far the best value we found during our relatively long search for a contractor!

Harvest and Morgan were professional and easy to reach on the phone. They showed up on time and the crew was courteous and knowledgeable during the whole process. We had a load-bearing wall removed in our home and they had the whole job wrapped up in a week and the results are great. I would highly recommend HR Construction to anyone that's thinking of doing a remodel!

The roof shingle were replaced due to hail damage. Harris Construction (Brian) was very easy to work with and he was open and upfront on what needed to be done. He even gave suggestions on how to improve attic ventilation in conjunction with the new roof, which we had a problem with on very hot days. The job was sub-contracted to another contractor which is not unheard of but i was not aware of in the beginning. The sub-contracted roofing company did a good job other than one flashing section over the front door. Brian quickly corrected the problem. I would use Harris Construction for other projects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
