we have used thumbtack tradesmen in the past, all have been excellent, Andy is Superior!! Hire him, he installed and repaired 3 ceiling fans, installed an electric switch in basement, replace a circuit breaker, installed a dimmer switch, diagnosed a double oven issue, ran to Home Depot twice, very quick, prompt and reasonable rates. He is gracious, friendly, knowledgeable, compassionate, we are sure he is human too, Andy is a machine! You won't be disappointed if you hire Andy, we were extremely satisfied with his expertise!

I will be eternally grateful to Keith and his awesome partner for coming to our rescue on very short notice. We recently found ourselves in a predicament with a horrible contractor we hired to finish our basement. I called Keith in a panic and asked him when the soonest was that he could come look at our electric in our basement. He came out with his partner in record time, and upon looking at the basement, he determined that the electrical that was installed was a complete mess - the wiring was wrong in every fixture (we have 20 can lights and 16 outlets on the wall!!) and the wiring from the main panel to the subpanel was incorrect, which would have caused our A/C to overload. Keith and his partner immediately figured out what all the problems were and got to work, fixing it all and leaving us with a beautifully lit basement. Not only were they both completely efficient, but they were very thorough and knowledgeable about how to precisely configure the wiring to ensure our safety in our home. As they were close to finishing the job, Keith made a special trip to Home Depot to get more wiring and the correct breaker to fix the mess the other contractor made of our electrical in the main fuse box. I'm sure this would have cost us much more money than what he quoted us at, but Keith didn't charge us more than what he originally estimated. We cannot thank Keith and his partner enough for a job very well done! I can finally have peace of mind in knowing that my house is not going to burn down, and we owe it all to Keith and his partner! I highly recommend Enigma and I will be referring Keith to any friends or family members looking to have work done. His knowledge, experience, and professionalism is top notch, and we couldn't be happier with his performance.

Very pleased with Sam's work. He came on time both days, quickly assessed the problem, did the work he promised for an extremely fair price, cleaned up very nicely, and was very professional throughout the process. I would definitely recommend him for appliance repair, and I will definitely use him again.

Paul was very knowledgeable in appliance repair, specifically for washing machine issues. He gave us options and quotes so that we can decide whether to fix or purchase new. Although we ultimately decided to purchase than do major repairs, for a fair price, at least we found that it wasn't a easy, simple repair. Will use him again.

Bradley is a total professional! He is not only very talented, but is very passionate about his career! He went above and beyond his call of duty! He adjusted my shower head and tightened my shower door, because what he saw, bothered him...guess what? That was not what he was called to our place to repair. About the repairs (both toilets and two sinks), he explained all options to me (is always looking for the most cost-effective option). He and his assistant worked tirelessly for several hours to make the repairs. Great guy! I will recommend him to all of my friends.

I was looking for an electrician on Thumbtack to install 20 recessed lights, change a few outlets, and get some advice on other projects in my 1940s home. I have existing ceilings without attic access that in a couple of the rooms that I wasn't even sure it would be possible to add lights to. I received bids from 5 companies but chose to meet Vince from Total Electric first. He arrived for a free in-person estimate right on time and patiently walked through my entire house as I asked him a million questions about issues we had or things we wanted to do. He even fixed a 3-way switch right on the spot, no charge, that my husband had messed with so we hadn't been able to use for 3 years that had left us going up and down the stairs with a baby in the dark. I knew then that we would be giving our business to Vince, and I'm so glad we did. He met with me again once we signed a contract to go over which "color/temperature" LED lights we wanted. After much back and forth by my husband and I, Vince even drove to my house 2 separate times to bring the actual 2 different lights (3k and 4k) to my house so we could be 100% confident in our decision. He was always so patient and understanding with our indecisiveness. He kept in constant contact while the lights were being shipped, available anytime I reached out. Once the install date came we were able to meet his wife, who also works with him. They really make a wonderful team. Together, they were able to install the lights in every place we wanted. I can tell you there were a couple of rooms that other electricians would have just told us were too inaccessible or impossible, but they sought out the challenge with a positive attitude and both worked to find a way to make it happen. Any holes that needed to be cut were FLAWLESSLY repaired and the rooms left clean! We are absolutely obsessed with our new lights, and can't wait to do the rest of the house. They REALLY went above and beyond to make sure we were left with nothing less than a 5-star+ experience! THANK YOU!! We have worked with many contractors over the years, and I can tell you Vince is BY FAR the best experience we have ever had with any of them. My husband and I say all of the time we wish he did everything because you just don't come across people like him often. He is trustworthy, patient, knowledgeable, professional, and personable. We genuinely enjoyed having Vince and his wife in our home and were left feeling like we just met a couple of new friends ; ) We have put our future electrical projects at the top of our to-do list since we know we will have a positive and seamless time getting them completed. We truly look forward to working with them in the future and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a stress-free experience from beginning to end.

Roosevelt got my job in at the end of what I’m sure was a long work day which was helpful, as my job could have caused damage to my ceiling if left to wait longer. Him and his wife were in and out quickly to reseat my toilet and problem solved the error of the last plumber. He said he would follow up in a couple days to make sure the seal was holding. I appreciate that he will follow up on his work. He also warrantied the work for a year. Although very nice, I hope I don’t see him again until I hire him for another job. Thanks for the good work sir!

While scheduling the work, had to change the dates few times and he was accomodative for my requests. I would be happy to hire him again.

Richard was responsive, polite and incredibly informative. He gave me options and never made me feel like he was duping me. In fact, he recommended me replacing my dishwasher rather than repair which would have been more money for him. I will most certainly call him again should I ever need it - highly recommend!!

I had other servicemen come to give estimates to repair my oven, the estimates were outrageous. I called LaCosta, he arrived the same day to repair my oven. He repaired the oven at a reasonable price. Very cordial and professional all at the same time.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
