Was very promt and did a Great job at figuring out why my computer was not working. My Wife honestly is clueless when It comes to computers, so Wesley not only fixed our issue but he also suggested that we replace the windows 08 with 07. I never though I would ever want to reverse technology, but windows 8 completely sucks and Wesley Didn't even charge extra since we saved him time by going to him. A+

I recently had my shower enclosure replaced and needed the glasswork done. Of the several contractors who indicated interest in taking the job, Bryce at Brant Glass was the one who demonstrated quickest response and enthusiasm for the work. Being anxious to get the project completed and have my working bathroom back, I did not wait more than a few days for the other companies to return my calls or emails-- Bryce got his foot in the door first and he got the gig. I was a little worried that I had not vetted enough contractors and was taking my chances on the first estimate I received. But the price was within what I had budgeted and, much more than that, I liked the orderly, thoughtful approach that I saw when Bryce came in to do the estimate. He quickly noted several squaring flaws in the enclosure (these had been unavoidable, lest you think I'm ragging on the tile guys) and worked out how he would compensate for them both functionally and cosmetically. He discussed everything with me in detail. I got an itemized written estimate that evening and Bryce went into action, ordering glass and supplies, as soon as I gave the word. We scheduled for today. So... Bryce and his coworker just left the house and I have this magnificent-looking shower with frameless glass. Because of those squaring flaws I mentioned, the job required a lot of extra care and took all day instead of the half-day expected. Even so, I was charged no more than the original estimate. Bryce and I reviewed all of the invisible and barely visible fit imperfections and how he compensated for them; I had only one adjustment request that he took care of immediately and when all's said and done the shower looks spectacular. I'll be contacting Brant Glass again when it's time to have window glass replaced. They were a real pleasure to work with.

Overall the service was good. They replaced the broken glass in a window for me. I appreciated that they provided that service bc most window repairs don't offer just glass repair. Good communication, worker was nice and worked quickly!

Hard to know where to begin..service from Ray Ewing was outstanding..he was knowledgeable and very personable..my windows look like a million bucks..the one room with the largest window was the one I was hoping to benefit from having a new window installed and it did..that cold feel disappeared completely..my installer Tom and his team of installers were respectful and focused on getting the windows installed correctly and perfect the first time..the windows make my house look newer and more updated..without a doubt I can highly and honestly recommend Universal Windows Direct and Mr. Ewing. You will definitely not be disappointed in the service and the quality of windows you will receive. I found through a conversation with Mr. Ewing that he had the capability to help me add a Florida Room and a covered patio..Mr. Ewing and Universal Windows Direct is the total package..give him a call when you want your home to look like a million bucks!

Improvements Plus remodeled our kitchen buy replacing existing wall tile and counter tops, closing in a window that looked out to the laundry area, installed an under the counter dish washer, replaced the sink and fixtures with all new plumbing. We also needed patchwork done on the drywall in the dining room area. When trying to decide on countertops, we were given several different style choices and colors to choose from. There was no effort on our end other than choose what we wanted, and Improvements Plus did the rest. Once the actual work began, it took about a week to complete. We received a very fair price and very fast service. Thanks Improvements Plus, we will definitely do business again!

I had several jobs that needed doing so I submitted a request on thumbtack. Jason Bell contacted me quickly and I explained to him that I wanted a quote on repairing a screened door and portion of my screened porch and hanging a new back door. Jason made an appointment right away to come to my house to provide a quote. When he arrived, he introducted himself very politely and we began to discuss the job. I explained to him that my husband had fallen and his hand went through a large panel of screen on my porch. the first thing Mr. Bell did was turn to my husband and ask, "Are you all right, sir?" I was immediately impressed with his thoughtfulness. While there, I showed Mr. Bell the backdoor that needed to be removed and the new door that I wanted hung; in addition, I asked him about some boards on the house that looked pretty bad. Mr. Bell inspected the boards and advised me that they only needed a bit of scraping and a new coat of paint. I was impressed with his honesty; he did not try to sell me on replacing the boards. I then showed Mr. Bell a deck whose wood was rotting and asked if he could replace it in addition to repairing my screened door, porch and installing a new back door. He replied that he could do so. Then, I asked him about some fence post that was wobbly and he checked and discovered that there was rotting there, so I asked him to remove the rotted wood and replace it, making the posts deeper in the ground. Mr. Bell was professional in every way. He obtained the wood and screens necessary for the job and went right to work the next afternoon, as he said he would. My screened porch is old and he had to remove wood slats to rescreen; he did so without harming the wood and fixed all the screens perfectly. He then removed my old back door and hung the new one, installing new door openers, as well. He then removed the old deck and replaced the wood beautifully. Then, he removed the rotted wood posts, dug deeper and placed the new posts. Mr. Bell did excellent work on every project I had. He was efficient with his time, spot-on with his estimate, and arrived exactly when he promised. I feel that Mr. Bell went above and beyond in the quality of his work, his professionalism, his honesty, and his thoughtfulness. Absolutely nothing went wrong. I would highly recommend Jason Bell to anyone who needs work done in, out, or about their home or business.

I am a Realtor in St Augustine. Jorge was prompt in contacting the new owner of the home and meeting me and the owner for an estimate. The work was 10 or so post-closing repairs on a very nice home in downtown St Augustine. Jorge did all the various repairs and replacements on the home to the owner's satisfaction at a competitive price and in a timely fashion. Jorge is the first person I think of for home repairs, but I've seen pictures of his craftsmanship with building homes, installing kitchens, bathrooms, floors, building custom arbors and amazing wood working. His abilty to handle so many different tasks makes him a one-stop-shop.

Our home addition involved many projects and L&M was there the whole way through. They arrived early and stayed late if needed and came well prepared with the right tools for the job. From framing to sheet-rock and doors to windows L&M can handle it all. They also gave us some great ideas and suggestions. We were most impressed with the craftsmanship involved with the interior trim work, custom built-in entertainment center and tile-granite work in our beautiful spa bath. We highly recommend L&M and will be using their services again for our new fence, arbor and raised flower beds. With quality work and fair pricing "These guys are good"

If you are looking for an honest, plumber who knows what he is doing, then look no further. Not only was he on time, which is very rare for many plumbers, he was patient, explained what needed to be done and saved me a whole lot of money. I had been told by another plumber that the job was huge and needed all my pipes taken out and replaced.. Oh NO!!! HME came in and did the job without doing all that. Where do you find a plumber who has quoted you for a job, comes in and realizes the job costs less than he had quoted and decrease his price? I bet you NO WHERE. I am very pleased with his work and I will refer him to my friends and rest assured you will not be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.
