My husband and I have used this company for various projects to date. They are by far a stand out company and someone you would send to your grandmothers’ house blindly to do work. They are very knowledgeable and can help guide you through color choices and types of paint. I find that that they hold a very high level of integrity. They will go above and beyond. Its refreshing to know when I hire them I do not have to watch them. I can give them a job, they will advise me on the best process or paint or color and once I give them the okay, undoubtedly it will be done properly. Our first experience with this company has held true to every experience we have had with them. We purchased a home and a move in date just 3 days before Christmas. We did not know about this particular company however had met them at the paint store as we started our project and I found them to be very open and friendly, just goo character. I was immediately impressed and it stuck with me. We had already hired another company to do our work. With 6 weeks to get our project done, the other company had extreme difficulty meeting any deadline and the work was by far unsatisfactory, jagged lines, patchy areas and unpainted areas we were told were painted. It put us in a very difficult position to meet our move in date. We made the decision to let this other company go. In turn I called painters I had met in the store the one day, STP Painting. I explained the situation and had them come over and look at the mess created and left for us to deal with. Paint on woodwork, terribly jagged edges around all the ceilings and so many more things they had to correct or repaint. At this point we had only two weeks and we were supposed to move in. They went out of their way to get us in our house by the deadline so our family could enjoy Christmas in our new home as we all had planned. They squeezed us in. Working nights, early mornings, spare moments and weekends -to help us. The company was very professional and I still cannot believe the amount of work they accomplished in that short time, all levels the house is around 4200 sq. ft. They were incredible, all of them. Since that project we hired them to paint the exterior and interior of another home and I cannot compliment them enough. We have had so many positive comments on the exterior of that home by passer byers and how quickly it was accomplished. We have referred them numerous times to our friends all of which are very satisfied as well. We have them on the slate to do other work for us again. I look forward to always working them. Fair, honest knowledgeable and just great people. STP Painting is the best, and I’ve been around a long time!

Joe and his crew did a great job of re-staining our cedar-sided house. They do not spray the way other painters do; they use brushes. The coverage with one coat was, however, very, very good.

Mark did a great job taking care of our painting needs. He was very professional. He showed up on time and finished the job in a timely manner. He made sure that we were happy with his work and he did it all at a very fair price. I will be recommending Mark to everyone who needs a painter.

Please take the time to read this review! My project was a new primed modular; quoted for 2 coats of paint on all ceilings walls doors and trim, I purchased all material. I did my research and elimination process with several painters and Professional Painters "Chad" was chosen for his Professionalism and attitude during his onsite visit. My project had its share of unforseen issues which Chad and team accommodated. Chads knowledge in the painting and construction fields not to mention his outside resources came into play and was a big plus. I can not exspress enough gratitude for Chad and his team; honest, reliable, thorough, accommodating and very professional. A 1k bonus was given to Chad and his team for going over and beyond, 2 thumbs up for Professional Painters Do It Right. Kudos....

I am VERY demanding when it comes to people coming into my house to paint. I expect them to be polite, tidy & precise. Years past other painters have left sloppy lines at ceiling and trim & were messy. They blamed the texture on my walls for the uneven line. Last Month--Josh Gardner of Grateful Painters painted the entire interior of my house in a less than a week. We are extremely satisfied & have asked Josh to give us an estimate for the exterior of our house. I recommend you give Josh a call--if you are looking for a detailed, clean, fairly priced & quick paint job!!!

Very professional service. The painters arrived on time both for the initial quote and then each day of work. They were polite and courteous - removing their shoes upon entering my house or making sure to wear booties so as not to track snow/mud throughout. In addition, they cleaned up after themselves each day and took care to secure the paint and tools each night in an area of my house which would not be disruptive. They had to remove some hooks in order to paint around them and took the time to reinstall these the next day after the paint had dried. They worked quickly and did high quality work as well. In addition after completion of the project, they conducted a final walk-through to make sure all the work was completed to my satisfaction. My house looks brand-new! I will definitely use them again for future service and highly recommend them!

All I can say is WOW!!! We have a rental we needed cleaned but I couldn’t give an exact date because the painters had to finish. Erica stayed in contact and was so flexible. When the painters were done she was out to clean within hours. Amazing work. Amazing flexibility. She is now on my phone’s contact list. Will definitely use again.

After having a bad experience with our previous painter, I jumped on Thumbtack. I received several bids, some high, some low but overall we were not really shopping price after our previous color debacle. We were looking for RIGHT NOW and QUALITY. I received a bid from Tim at Minor Touches. He wasn’t the highest price and not the lowest but he came to the house immediately and assessed our lavender (supposed to be gray) walls. 🤣 He advised it needed to be primed just to make sure it covered right the second time. Not only did he throw in the primer, he also pulled off all the switch plate covers, HVAC vent covers and the old phone jacks from years ago. He even lightly sanded the paint runs from the previous painter left behind. Tim worked late Friday evening and early Saturday morning to meet our deadline. Incredible work. Great price. He will be painting the rest of our projects in the near future. I would definitely recommend Tim at Minor Touches, excellent work! Thanks!!

I contacted Taconicarts via Thumbtack for painting of an entranceway prior to my house going in the market. Jeff Green completed the project to a very high standard and in a timely fashion. I contracted him again to paint shutters at my new house. Again the finished project looked great. I would highly recommend Taconicarts.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
