FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Logical errors where the hard drive can spin up but the file system is corrupted or a specific file can be seen but is garbled or you see weird characters are less expensive to recover than a hard drive which has the "click of death" or doesn't spin at all. If the hard drive doesn't spin up at all the cost is pretty high no matter who you go to. I always tell clients to call other places for physical hard drive problems and get a quote. Many customers find that they get very broad price ranges or we can't even give you a ballpark figure until we get it. In addition there are only a handful of data recovery companies in Indiana and we have been proud to be one for 10 years. The other companies (most are out of state) will have you box up your drive and send it to them. If you drop off the hard drive to our office, you know where it is.
- What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish that my customers knew that this is not a profession where we just download some software and get your data back. There is a science involved in what we do and knowing what to do in order to get the data back for you. While having the customer download some software might get back the data in a certain number of situations, in most cases it hinders the recovery process as the time we have to work with the drive now gets greatly reduced and more physical and logical damage shows up.
