I contacted Paul about issues we were having with our refrigerator losing power about 3-4 times a day and having to constantly reset the various plug outlets we tried. He was extremely courteous over the phone and was willing to come out the next day to see me but also diagnosed it over the phone and said it was likely an issue with the refrigerator compressor and not electrical-related. Because of this, I ended up calling an appliance repair person instead but I was impressed with his integrity and honesty in the two telephone discussions we had and would not hesitate to call him again in the future if we had something come up.

Everyone I talked to and worked with were knowledgeable and very kind. They were able to quickly get me an appointment and the technician arrived on time and completed the work quickly. The price was fair and I will definitely be going back to Duncan for any appliance repairs I need. This is a wonderful company to work with.

We had new tile counter tops installed and all three sinks were leaking. One of the three were fixed. The other two could not be repaired because the hole for the vessel sinks were made too large by the granite installers. In addition to repairing the leak, the technician reported to me that the sink was not vented properly. He corrected this as part of the repair.

Assurance Plumbing performed several major plumbing jobs for us: Replacement of a hot water heater Replacement of a garbage disposal in our kitchen A clogged pipe causing my washing machine backing-up into the laundry room resulting in dry-wall damage The cutting and refitting of a stripped main on/off value in the house Assurance service was outstanding, not only was the work done timely and above my expectations, they also put things in place to prevent future problems. When it was discovered that the washing machine problem was due to a clog pipe Assurance Plumbing did more then unclog the pipe. Assurance removed the pipe and installed a new pipe, to my surprise they then added a access point that could be used in the event of a future clog (the average company would have never taken the time to do). After the problem was corrected with my washing machine Assurance Plumbing advised that they had a drywaller they would scheduled to repair the drywall due to the water damage. Since this time I have informed American Home Shield that the only company we would allow to due any of our plumbing cover or no-covered is Assurance Plumbing.

James was outstanding. He reset several brick and slate pieces in the front and side of our home. He was timely, professional, and gave a clear detailed estimate/contract for all of the work he performed. The work was superb and we will use him in the spring to repair and seal our stamped concrete area. Highly recommend this company.

He came on time and worked based on my schedule. Very flexible to work with and did the work for me to install water softener and RO system in my new house. Definitely recommend Kyle to my friends and he also offered me better price on the installation by providing additional discount.

Courtney was very professional. He gave me written estimates and a contract. He kept to the time frame we discussed. He checked in with me about the weather, since this was an outside project. He power washed the house and deck, sanded the deck and painted it. Repaired and painted the mailbox. He is currently installing new deadbolts on my doors. He has done an excellent job and I am so happy to have found him. I will definitely use him in the future.

Replacing damaged privacy fence in December means fewer options for the fence panels. Steve offered several options for my fence repair job after the original quote because the quoted panels weren't available. He kept me informed of each step in the process by email and did a quality job for a very reasonable price.

Warren and Downin Enterprises has been a godsend! He's an expert with older homes (mine is over 100 yrs old) and has done everything from numerous home repair projects to new design and repurposing of an old space, a stairway landing into a fully plumbed half bath. He's also done tilework, repair plaster on lath walls, installed ceiling lights and fans and added electrical outlets. In addition to inside work, he's designed and constructed a flagstone patio and perimeter gardens. He has a great natural eye for good design--you would never know that the half bath was once a landing. Plus he's reliable, efficient, smart and top quality--what more could you ask for? He's every woman's handyman dream!

Wes installed a Pella sliding door for me well under the lowest bid I had from other contractors. While taking out the old door he uncovered some water damaged framing which he also repaired. The door and trim look great. It was one the most positive experiences I've had dealing with a contractor.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

      • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
      • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
      • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

      How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
