Excellent service, very good food, very respectable and friendly but we felt she was pretty pricey. That's the reason for 4 stars verses 5.

A Chef in Thyme catering was outstanding! Julie was a dream to work with and incredibly personable. She was able to meet my last minute request (1 week before event) and made it all seem so easy! Julie’s quote was reasonable—the quality of service and food exceeded my expectations. Julie was always prompt with responses whether through text, phone call, or Thumbtack messages. She was also on time for all meetings and delivery. Julie catered my family reunion evening dinner for about 70 people. On the menu was: lemon pepper chicken, bacon wrapped pork loin, rice pilaf, fresh salad, corn on the cob street corn and vegetable ragout. There was plenty of food and everyone made sure to comment on how satisfied they were with the taste and quality. Even the picky eaters were satisfied! Julie delivered the buffet meal and took care of all the setup and cleanup. Setup included linens for the buffet table, the appropriate food service warming trays, utensils, plates, and a beverage station (non-alcoholic). She and her assistant also stayed for the duration of the event (3 hours) to refresh food as needed and clean up afterwards. The kitchen was spotless and any extra food was wrapped up and appropriately stored. Julie has set the bar very high for catering quality and affordability. I would absolutely hire A Chef in Thyme Catering again!

I am a single man that has grown tired of my own cooking as well as drive through food. I contacted her and she sat down with me and took the time to really get to know me. She asked about my eating preferences and style if food and I told her that I was also looking to eat healthier than I had been. She started out by preparing me a few meals that she left for me in my fridge with reheating instructions. I really liked the note that she left me asking for an honest review of each meal, I did note some of my opinions and the next week she made another set of meals that were even better than the first. I really enjoy home cooking and how easy it is to prepare them when I'm ready to eat. I may ask her to makeme a dinner for my lady friend and I to enjoy, I think she said she could come over and cook for us while we are waiting, I'm looking forward to more of her daily meals as well as a social dinner.

Valerie provided concise pragmatic nutritional information on FODMAPS and clarified the grey areas around celiac testing. clearly laying out the options. She is not dogmatic but flexible and a good listener. Her consultations cleared out some of the fog in my mind with respect to Celiac Disease and helped me understand where I needed to go from here.

The food was excellent and the catering was as expected. Jeff and Hogg Wild BBQ Co. catered my birthday for about 40 people and the BBQ pork nachos were the BEST I've tasted!! The pulled pork was also fantastic! The BBQ is one of the best or probably the best around the Indianapolis area. Everyone LOVED the BBQ!! I look forward to trying other items on their menu and wouldn't hesitate having Hogg Wild BBQ Co. cater another event.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do private cooking lessons cost?

You can take private cooking classes to have fun, to learn a new skill, to improve your health, to bond with your partner, to enjoy a playful first date or to have a unique birthday party experience. Nationally the average cost of private cooking lessons ranges between $100 and $150. Prices can vary, depending on where you live, the type of cooking class you’re taking, the ingredients the chef provides, and the reputation of the chef. Cooking classes with Anthony Bourdain will clearly cost more than classes with a local restaurant owner. The number of people in the class will also affect the cost, with group lessons often priced per person to account for the cost of ingredients. For example, for group lessons, a brunch workshop may cost an average of $70 per person, a steak dinner with sides could cost an average of $80-$85 per person, and a sushi lesson could cost an average of $100 per person. Ingredients play a major role in cost, as the chef will pre-purchase the food you will be working with. Weekday classes will usually cost less than weekend classes.

Are nutritionists covered by health insurance?

Nutrition counseling can be a critical component of good health care, especially for people recently diagnosed with diabetes or high cholesterol who need to adhere to a specific diet. People also meet with nutritionists for help developing a healthy vegetarian or vegan diet, developing an eating plan to lose weight or gain muscle, or improving their sports performance by changing their diet. Nutritionists may be covered by health insurance depending on your reason for meeting with them. Nutrition counseling is more likely to be covered if it is part of a doctor-prescribed treatment for a particular medical condition, such as diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure or coronary heart disease. For example, Medicare covers medical nutrition therapy services only for people diagnosed with diabetes or kidney disease, as long as they get a referral from their doctor. Also, insurance providers more often cover nutrition visits if the patient has been referred to a registered dietitian within the carrier’s network of providers. Insurance plans vary greatly, so research your benefits before visiting a nutritionist.

How much does a nutritionist cost?

A nutritionist provides expertise and guidance to help clients with all diet-related health matters, including losing weight, gaining muscle, improving their sports performance, and managing diabetes or high cholesterol. Nutritionists can help people learn to follow special diets in a healthy way, such as becoming vegetarian or vegan or developing a low-sodium or gluten-free eating plan. The average national cost of a nutritionist is $60 to $100. Nutritionists often require an initial consultation with a new client, during which they’ll take a medical history, assess the client’s nutritional needs, and determine the best course of action; this first meeting usually averages $100-$120 for a 45-minute to 90-minute consultation. Subsequent nutritional counseling sessions generally cost less, ranging from an average of $45 for a half-hour session to $60-$90 for a one-hour session. Like many professional service providers, nutritionists may offer discounts through package pricing. For instance, a one-month package with two sessions and email support costs an average of $190; a three-month package with three sessions and email support costs an average of $360; and a six-month package with six sessions and email support costs an average of $540.
