Great job really cleaning walls, baseboards, stair case steps & railing, etc. etc.! Would like to have the kitchen rug at the sink shaken out and rug vacuumed better under the dining room table, but can easily work that out next time. Otherwise, thank you!!

We hired Tiling and Design Diva to tile our office with large format porcelain tile, as well as to do some basic interior design consulting for the space. Kim was punctual and very easy to communicate with via email, text and phone. She worked long hours to get the floor done on our tight schedule and even came back to help us match the stain for the thresholds to our existing hardwood floors. The tile is beautiful and the design consultation she gave really helped us bring the room together. I will be hiring her again for a kitchen back splash replacement soon! I believe Kim has used photos of our office in her portfolio, so if you'd like to see a beautiful example of her work, ask to see it!

I love my new kitchen!! My designer, Jamila Martin, has been thedriving force guiding this transformation every step of the way. Her customer service skills and attention todetail are amazing. At the beginning ofthe project, Jamila and I had a pleasant conversation and as she listened tome, she incorporated all my favorite colors and things into the perfectplan. She has an uncanny ability tovisualize the finished space in all its glory before the first measurement istaken. Jamila’s professional demeanor allowedher to communicate with the contractor and the myriad of workers who came intomy home with deliveries and jobs to do. I couldn’t be happier. I highlyrecommend her and give her an A++.

I was very comfortable allowing Diego into my home while I was away, and extremely happy with the work that was completed! I had a bathroom completely remodeled and a shower tiled. He gave suggestions when I needed them and made certain I was aware of anything that was a potential issue. I will use him again when I remodel my kitchen, and have already recommended him to my boss who is having him start work for her tomorrow.

Mike Mosely is friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful of his client's living space. Mike worked with my budget and schedule to make sure I was comfortable with the project. I had two main projects in a recently purchased house: minor plumbing and wiring in my kitchen, and a door widening in my basement. He also identified and corrected a plumbing issue in my basement. I trust his technique and plan on using him again for future projects.

It is with great pleasure that we share our experience in working with Mindy Sly. Mindy has an exceptional talent for interior design and is passionate and extremely knowledgeable about her work. Our relationship began this winter when my husband and I wanted a fresh, updated look on the inside of our home. Our family had spent over 10 years living with different shades of tan walls and complementing carpeting. We wanted to incorporate shades of gray, white, turquoise and yellow but were neither knowledgeable about color and design nor had the time to take on such a big task alone. Knowing that if we changed the walls and carpeting, we would also want to update our furniture and décor to complement the overall look we were trying to achieve. At our consultation we shared with her our vision, style, likes and dislikes as well as our budget and timeline. Mindy listened to our needs and wants and made suggestions for paint colors, carpeting, furniture and décor. What we enjoyed so much about working with Mindy was that she encouraged us to take an active role in the decorating process. She didn’t push her agenda on us and, in fact, welcomed our input and opinions on various aspects of our redesign. With her natural talent and eye for detail, Mindy has transformed our home beautifully and has made it come to life with vibrant colors, patterns and textures! From the custom made furniture and the use of drapery to the eye catching paint and décor, we are in love! We have found her work to be inclusive, comprehensive and creative. She is accomplished with color and savvy with its usage throughout our home. Mindy strives to satisfy and deliver high quality results without the large price tag. We love showing off our redesign to family and friends and enjoy coming home to what seems like a vacation getaway! We look forward to using Mindy for any and all additional needs we may have in the future. It is with great pleasure that we highly recommend Mindy of Urban Sly for all interior design needs.

We have used Columbus Custom Builders for a number of years. They fitted our kitchen and recently completed fitting our windows. There was some confusion over the window finishings but they were attentive and quick in finishing them how we asked. We have recommended them to others because they are reliable and do a good job. They are approachable and tell you succinctly and honestly what is needed

Wow! This guy knows his stuff. He put our kitchen together in 3 days and it looks great. Couldn't be better. Kiko is layed back and at the same time gets everything done. He is meticulous and does not settle for just ok. Believe it or not there is a lot of wood cutting that is involved and he did it right the first time. I would refer him to anyone installing an IKEA kitchen. He is truly an IKEA specialist He travels to all states, I'm in Louisville, KY,. If you are wanting an IKEA kitchen installed I think you would be happy with Kiko's work.

Ceramo completed a remodel of my kitchen earlier this year. From top to bottom these guys were professional and reapectful. The owner and his foreman were quick to identify any issues and communicate changes with me. They also suggested design ideas and found areas where money could be saved. Overall the experience was pleasant and the quality of work was superb.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.
