Wayne is extremely knowledgeable of piano theory and equally skilled in practice. I met him at my friend's wedding where he was performing. Specifics of my experience: Pros: --He was very knowledgeable, instantly spotting and describing the theory and reasing behind a piece's choice of Key, Chord Progressions, Tempo, Dynamics, etc. --His ability with the piano is astonishing, which he used from time to time to different ends for a more interactive teaching experience. --His ear for music allows him to always ready to correct when melodies or chords are misplayed. --He is very personable, which made for ease of discussion, correction, and learning. --He was flexible with rescheduling due to my recent excessive work loads. Cons: --As with any teacher with great talent, there were times that the gap of skill impeded the ability to relate the proper instruction. Other: --This is listed as "Other", mostly because I do not believe it would be fair to label it as a "Con". As an engineer, my mind is very much hard wired to analyze the details of all things. For instance, everyone knows what a C Major chord looks like, and for most people, just seeing it and repeating it is fine. For me, I like to know WHY a C Major chord is a C Major chord. Telling me "That's just the way it is" is not good enough for me. For simpler instances like the C Major chord, Wayne could explain the "why", but there were times that he would dismiss things as "You just need to know that this is what this is." He definitely knew of my desire to know the details, so maybe in those cases he did not want me to bog me down with needless theory at my level of skill. I do not know, but sometimes I would have liked a little more explanation of the sometimes mystical music theory. To summarize, all in all I enjoyed my time with Wayne, and I wish I had more time to devote to practice. I'm sure that if I mentioned the "cons" to Wayne that he would make an effort to adjust, because I believe he cares deeply for music and his students. I definitely noticed an improvement after having lessons with him.

As a fellow private lessons teacher and performer, I am aware of Wayne's work in both contexts. Wayne is a gifted performer and knowledgeable in many styles of music and notably in his ability to improvise. He also likes to accompany and arrange music for organ or piano. His students range from young to old and beginner to advanced. Many times I have heard his students make positive comments about their lessons, from wanting to demonstrate their progress on a current piece to looking forward to their next lesson with anticipation. Wayne has an excitement about music and teaching and celebrates with a student whenever a big accomplishment is made. As with any teacher, a compatible personality and working relationship is very important. I recommend Wayne as a teacher that can create a good learning environment.
