FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
A 30 minute lesson is $35 or $105 a month paid the first of each month. A 45-minute lesson is $48 or $140 a month. An hour lesson is $65 per week. The monthly rate gives at least one free week each month. This compensates you for weeks you may need to miss a lesson and reserves your spot. The hour at $65 discounts as you go. You may pay and reserve your time weekly based on what I have open if you want to spot-check for problems, but for development and correction goals it is best to hold your spot by paying the monthly rate each month. Lessons at your location are $70 an hour and travel fee over 5 miles/15 minutes may apply. If you plan to stop lessons, it would be helpful to give 30 days notice when you pay for your last month, telling me then it will be your last one, so I can plan times to fill and offer to others.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I will listen to you run through scales and exercises so that I can identify the things I can do to help you. Issues are usually breathing, tension, too bright or too dark a quality, need more range, and managing breaks. We can build a voice that has never sung, or polish and improve anyone who wants to improve. I choose songs that fit your voice and address appropriate issues in your voice and build skills to develop the voice. You may have songs you want to sing or need to learn, and those are worked in as well. Your good training and vocal health are my priority. You can sing anything! But technique of how to do it is my business.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently working on my doctorate in Voice at Ball State University. In addition to that I have a Masters specializing in Voice Pedagogy, and a B.A. in Music Education. I have taught general and choral music K-12, but I have been teaching private voice and piano and music classes from preschool through college (and retired people!) for 25 years. I taught voice at IUPUI and Ball State, and have experience onstage in opera, music theater, choral, contemporary Christian music, and all kinds of solo work. I attend national conventions of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. I have attended the International Congress of Voice Teachers and other professional development workshops. I am always looking for opportunities for professional growth and development.
