Tim came to the house on time and did an awesome job. I was surprised how quick the grooming was when your pet is the main focus.

Jenny was a great with our pets! We-recently moved to Indy and were in need of a reliable pet sitter and connected with Jenny on Thumbtack. We returned home after spending time out of state with family, to two very happy kitties! Jenny checked in each day she stopped by and provided updates which put our minds at ease and allowed us to completely enjoy our time away. Our experience with her was great and we will definitely be using her in the future!

Pet Concierge did a great job taking care of our cats for the week that we were gone. They kept us informed activities for each visit and also kept an eye on the house for us.

Ellen stayed at our house and took care of our many pets (dogs, cats, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, chickens). She did a great job. I would highly recommend her as a pet sitter and will be calling her back when we go out of town next time! The animals were taken care of very well and we were kept up to date on how they were doing while we were gone. Great job Ellen!!

Mary is fantastic! She took care of all our pets which includes 4 cats, a dog and turtle for a week while on vacation. She spent time with them multiple times a day and gave us updates and sent pictures while we were gone. Our dog is very nervous when we leave and she really warmed up to Mary. We have had multiple sitters over the past few years but by far she has been the best. I would highly recommend her. Also it was a plus having her since she also does house cleaning. We come home from vacation to a clean house and happy pets!!

We loved Urban Tails! She did a great job with my dog Daisy who has anxiety. She was able to groom her when others said they couldn't handle her! Urban Tails will be the only place my dog goes for grooming!!

Kelly is an amazing pet sitter. She is professional, yet easy-going and seemed to get along great with my cat, Monia. Kelly was also wonderful to work with and took great notes and asked good questions, when we did the "meet and greet" before she started. This told me that she was experienced and knew what she was doing. I would definitely recommend Kelly! PS - she takes great pics of your pet too, when she is caring for them!

Francie is a wonderful pet-sitter! Our pups and guinea pig were very spoiled while we were away. It was so nice to know they were in great hands and we didn't have to worry about them at all. I highly recommend her!

We have used Syndi with our furbabies many times. The care they receive while with her, is greater than any other route we have chosen. I am in the rescue business, therefore I am familiar with all boarding facilities and pet sitters in the area. Syndi is one of the few sitters, I trust to give my animals and my fosters quality care while I am gone. You can rest easy when using her while away. She will send daily updates/pictures, along with any notes from each visit, what more could you ask for!

Jayme was the perfect dog sitter/house sitter for me and my dog, Jadie. My husband and I were both going to be out of town for 6 days, and we needed someone to come over and stay with our dog every night. Jayme completely dedicated herself to Jadie. She spent every day and every night with Jadie, walking her, playing with her, feeding her and spoiling her. Jayme sent me cute photo collages of Jadie multiple times a day, and Jadie looked so happy. We couldn't have asked for a better person to care for our dog and our condo while we were away. We will definitely be using Jayme again in the future.

Lisa is so great! She stepped in at the last moment and became our permanent dog walker. Our Shar Pei puppy absolutely loves her. He can definitely be a handful, but Lisa does a great job with him. She even wipes his face for us after he is done eating and drinking because he is messy. We also love that she is so flexible and is able to fit us into her schedule without a problem! We love our dog so much and don't just trust anyone, so we were really impressed with Lisa because she is professional and personable and we feel that she truly cares about our dog. Also, she leaves a daily report of what activities she did with our dog and updates us on his behavior. We are so grateful that we found Lisa!

I'm so glad we hired Mandy as our pet sitter. We were anxious about going out of town for several days and wanted to make sure our dogs were comfortable in their own home. Mandy was prompt and friendly from the start. We received many adorable photos each time she visited with a detailed report. Our dogs were happy and well loved during our time away. We will definitely use Mandy again in the future.

Chris is our dogs home away from home! We have 2 Golden/English Cream Retrievers that are 15 months old, and Chris has watched them since they were puppies. She treats them like her own, and they are always excited to see her. I already have her scheduled out for 3 upcoming trips from now until February! I interviewed several dog sitters and she is very reasonable priced. You and your dogs will love her!

Antoinette made herself available very last minute as another pet sitter pulled a no-call, no-show. She was able to meet with us, meet our pups, and take great care of them within a days notice. Can't express how amazing and grateful we are.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a house sitter?

House-sitting can be a lifesaver when you’re leaving town for any length of time. Whether you work remotely, you’re taking a much-needed vacation, or you just want to road-trip for a few days, it’s wise to have a pro keep an eye on your house and pets while you’re gone. Your home is more likely to stay safe and you won’t have to wrangle the kitty into a kennel to travel with you. The national average pet-sitting price ranges between $20 and $30. Pet-sitting and house-sitting costs will vary based on where you live in the country and regional labor rates. Another factor in cost is how long you want the house-sitter to stay. Some people prefer to have the house-sitter stay the night at their house, perhaps to care for an elderly pet or simply to keep a watchful eye on the home at all times. Overnight stays will cost more, ranging anywhere from $50 to $100, depending on services provided. For day visits, house-sitting and pet-sitting prices will increase incrementally the longer the visit and the more service you want performed. For example, a quick 10-minute visit to feed and walk the pet and bring in the mail could be $12.50, a 25-minute visit could be $18, a 40-minute visit $25, and a 50-minute visit $32. How much should you pay for a pet sitter?

Pet sitting provides your precious pet with in-home care. A pet-sitter can make a brief visit during the day to provide snacks, playtime or affection, or stay at your house for one or more nights to tend to your pet. Prices for pet-sitting will vary based on length of the visit. Nationally, pet sitting prices range from $20 to $30, although prices run higher for your sitter to stay the night. Prices will also be affected by where you live in the country. Here are some examples of average pet-sitting prices based on length of time and region:

        • 30-minute visit: $17 in a small Texas town.
        • 30-minute visit: $25 in Southern California.
          • 45-minute visit: $28.
          • 60-minute visit: $32.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $50 in Texas.
        • Overnight stay (10 hours): $85 in Southern California.
          • 12 hours: $100.
          • 24 hours: $200. This is a good option for a sick, elderly or brand-new pet that needs constant supervision.
