Ron did a fabulous job. He installed a bathroom fan for me and vented it to the outside. I put my request on Thumbtack around noon. I got his quote almost immediately and then he managed to squeeze me into his schedule and do the work right away. I could not be more pleased. The fan looks great and works perfectly, and the cost of installation was reasonable especially considering all he had to do to make sure that the fan was properly vented to the outside of the house. Plus, he cleaned up so well that I think my bathroom was cleaner when he left than it was when he got here. :)

James and his crew fixed my cracked chimney and replaced the cap. The job ended up being a bit bigger than originally thought, but they communicated well and took on the extra challenge. For the most part, the brick matches perfectly and you can hardly notice any work was done at all. The cap looks great and they even painted a rusted vent hood to look like new. Everyone I encountered was very friendly and took time to answer any questions I had. I would certainly recommend Blue River Masonry.

Clean dryer duct. Advertised at $49 if vent less than 15ft. Ours is. When asked if that included inside dryer vent and interior dryer vent they said no. So for $89 we had that done. Very overpriced.

We had 4 estimates on our roof. 2 roofers wanted us to try and file a claim and had high estimates. Steve was so honest and said your roof is just old and he gave us an estimate that was spot on (no add ons). His crew had our roof done in one day! Steve was great to work with, he even helped us with picking out the color of our shingles. His crew took down an old antenna, satellite dish and clean up was immaculate! We highly recommend Steve and green line roofing!

When I found out we needed a new roof, I was hesitant to get the process of reaching out to contractors started. People in our neighborhood who were having their roof replaced...it was taking several days to get the job done. To my surprise and excitement, Big Boy's Construction completed the job in a timely and professional manner...from the estimate to installation. It prompted friends and neighbors to ask what contractor I chose! Give Big Boy's a call if you find yourself in need of a new roof! You won't be disappointed!

The job that I asked them to do -- remove leaves from my roof and clean up other debris -- was done promptly and efficiently. I thought the price was fair.

Thomas cleaned 10 vents including the cold air return, my dryer vent and had to climb into the attic to removed a bird's nest from my fan in the bathroom. He did an excellent job. I didn't realize how much dust and grime I had in my vents. He showed me the dryer vent lint that he removed not to mention what blew away. It was quite a bit. He explained that this is quite dangerous and a hazard that could have caught my house on fire. It was expensive but worth the price. The price was quoted prior to him coming out. I would recommend him to my friends. Thanks Thomas.

Our roof rafters were installed without proper bracing, so the roof had begun to sag. Stacey put in knee wall supports under both inclines. He was knowledgeable, courteous, efficient and cleaned up when finished.

Bob was awesome! He was at my house fixing my leak within 3 hours of me posting on this app. He went above and beyond suggesting a replacement boot for a worn out one on my vent pipe and did a whole roof inspection while he was there. And then he wouldn’t accept any money for the work done! Who does that? Bob does. I forced him to take some money and he was finished in no time. Don’t waste your time on anyone else, hire Bob!!!

We had them work on a variety of things...replacing rotten wood, replacing doors and installing steps for a shed, replacing the frame and a door on the garage and repairing a portion of the roof to eliminate a leak (three others had tried and failed) to name a few. We could not be happier with their work and they were friendly and professional too. No doubt we will be contacting them for future work. Highly recommended...they're good people.

We our selling our house and had a few things come back on the buyer's inspection. Ezekiel was fast and professional. He fixed a few damage shingles on our roof. Also, installed a GFCI outlet under our kitchen sink. We would use Great North Construction company again and plan on doing so in the future.

After years of coating my parent’s mobile home the coating was thick and cracking causing the roof to leak. We needed a solution and Done Right Roofing and Restoration provided that. With their high quality customer service and the free estimate that we received made our choice easy. Done Right installed a rubber roof for my parent’s home and did an exceptional job. Their installation crew showed up early and worked late in order to make sure that the roof would be completed. We believe we made the right choice because we wanted this roof to be done right and they made sure it was. To top it off they provide a twenty five year warranty that you do not receive with other companies. I would recommend Done Right to anyone.

I had cement board siding put on my home. Maximus also installed a roof and gutter covers a few years ago. Both jobs were executed quickly and excellently. I would not hesitate to use them again.

Outstanding service and price! I would highly recommend Hardcastle Construction! He came out on a Sunday, evaluated the roof, purchased the materials, and fixed the roof vents within an hour. In fact while he was here, we hired him for more jobs in the future. He truly went above and beyond and was very friendly!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
