Robert did an excellent job! He showed up on time, had all of the tools and parts necessary to do the job and was very knowledgeable. The job turned out to be more complicated than just a simple spring replacement, he had to "MacGyver" a whole new axel, pulley and spring mechanism. The door works better than ever now. I highly recommend him for any garage door repairs. Mike

I had Mike do a few jobs for me that included ceiling fans, plumbing, door jam repair and door hanging back in Dec. of 2014, but failed to review. Mike was great, reasonable, knowledgable, on time, etc. I wish I could find other workers who do as good a job as Mike!

Simple and short: Had a problem with the garage door not wanting to stay closed. Gave Tim a call at the request of Donna and he came over right away. Within 10 minutes of him showing up, the door was closing and staying closed. Satisfied customer and will definitely use them again.

Have you ever had a moment in your life where your heart jumps in your throat and your stomach drops to the floor and you feel like the world is crashing around you? That's a sneak peak into my night last night. We are trying to sell our house in Indy from our new home in northern Virginia. We have an open house scheduled tomorrow and last night or realtor called to say that one of his agents stomped on the gas instead of the brake after his foot slipped off the pedal and he slammed through my garage door. Then he followed it up with the news that he couldn't have it fixed until Monday, the day after our open house. That wasn't ok, it could have really impacted our ability to sell at asking so I came on to thumbtack and found Dave. Sorry Princess Leia, obi wan isn't your only hope... Dave is. He said he could do the job on Saturday and he moved heaven and earth to get the job done in a timely manner and it looks fantastic. Not only did he do it quickly and professionally, but he even took the time to make sure it matched the old door and color scheme of the house. I'm in awe of his ability to get it all handled so quickly and so well with no notice. How many contractors take a request at 11pm, don't get confirmation to move forward until 10:30 am on a Saturday and have it done beautifully by 6pm Saturday night? I'm not sure you'll find many, but I did with Dave. I can't thank you enough! I'd trust Dave with any garage door repair I ever have and will be sharing his name with our buyers in case they ever need help in the future.

The gentleman that came out to replace my door was WONDERFUL!!! He went to the hardware store for MW and got the door because I couldn't leave my house unattended and unlocked and even matched the previous door paint color and painted it for me. Very polite and professional. He swept up the mess and cleaned the mess outside of the house from changing the door. He even let me use his hammer to put my pictures up on my walls lol! Amazing service and would definitely recommend his services to anyone.

Warren installed a new commode, new kitchen faucet, replaced bathroom fixtures and repaired bathroom faucets for us. He repaired and painted our cool deck around our pool and re-grouted pool tiles. He also painted our garage doors and trim. He did a great job and found ways to save us money on the supplies. I would highly recommend his work.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How do you choose a garage door?

When garage door repair isn’t an option — perhaps the current door is beyond fixing or you want to upgrade to a quieter, more energy-efficient model — it’s time to buy a new one. But choosing a garage door is not as simple as it sounds, even when you know the right size for your home. A wide range of materials, styles and finishes are available, and each factor influences the cost. Garage doors are made of aluminum, steel, vinyl, fiberglass, masonite, wood (typically cedar or mahogany), or a composite of several materials. They may be insulated against cold or heat. Traditional and modern styles include raised panel, carriage house or crossbuck. Most styles have window or arch options, and are available in different wood finishes and neutral colors. Because garage doors account for a large part of a home’s exterior, their appearance is usually a homeowner’s top priority. An attractive garage door can increase a home’s curb appeal and resale value.

How much does garage door repair cost?

When a garage door goes off the track, the spring breaks, the door is dented or the garage door opener is on the fritz, a professional garage door repair specialist can help. The cost to have a garage door fixed varies, but the national average cost of garage door repair is $70-$110. The extent of the damage and the size and material of the door will affect the final cost. A garage door repair company generally charges a national average of $80 for a service call, which includes the first hour of labor and service, such as testing and inspecting the garage door and opener. Apart from labor, the garage door repair costs hinge on buying replacements parts. For example, a new spring costs an average of $60. Expect to pay several hundred dollars, though, if the door is beyond repair; a new garage door ranges in price from $200 to $4,000, and most homeowners spend an average of $800-$1,200.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
