So far I like nothing about this company. They gave us a quote in a timely matter but everything else had been terrible. They said they would start a 2 man team at 9am but sent 1 man who arrived an hour late, who never painted what we wanted done. He was never advised as to what the job included, he didn't even bring a ladder. Was he going to paint the floor? He left after 10pm 2 days ago worth the job less than 50% completed and we haven't heard from ANYONE at the company yet.

We hired Jon to do the painting in our living room and it turned out amazing! We then hired him to do the flooring in our living room and dining room (which look great) and he has now started the bathroom tile flooring. He does a great job and is very meticulous!

JL Home and Business Services did a number of odd jobs for me. They replaced soffit and facia boards and painted them. They repaneled my garage, replaced a patio door and painted several rooms. Joe provided excellent communication throughout the process and we reviewed their work daily. I would definitely hire them again.

We hired Al to finish a bathroom that was essentially studs, rough plumbing, and unfinished electrical, and he did it all! He installed a window, finished a half wall, completed the plumbing, did a great job on the tile and drywall, installed fixtures, and who knows what else to make things right in there. He even painted the walls at the end! And he did it all for a great price. I recommend Al's work! But the best part about Al is that he is great to be around: Friendly, knowledgable, professional. Thanks, Al!

Bret and his team were professional throughout the entire process. They provided guidance about paint options and helpful pointers about color choices and paint sheens. They showed up when they said they would and did the work they said they would do. In addition, when there were some issues painting the trim they stayed around to make sure the job was done right. You can't ask for better than that. I can't recommend them highly enough. Thanks, Bret!

Chad did a great job for us. He was on time- did a great job prepping and painting our bathroom, built and installed an access panel for us and cleaned out our dryer vent. He was very professional, made some helpful suggestions regarding a bathroom fan and cleaned up too. We would hire him again!

I had a very good experience working with JR Home Specialists. They were very professional and did a very nice job. They almost worked liked someone would work in their own home, making sure everything was attended to. If something needed little repairing, they helped me do that too along with the paint job. I was very pleased with the end result.

Rand made a vidit to my home and I explained need to flush out gutters , caulk and repaint soffet and fascia. I have a ranch style home with limestone exterior. Rand matched up the caulk color to the stone and siding. He suggested doing a power on gutters before painting in case they cleaned up. Rand was very coopertive and prompt in getting the work done. He cleaned up any chips scrapped off before repainting and very tidy overall. Outstanding in work and very reasonable in cost. Thank you Rand.

Mr. Thompson cares about the quality of his work, did a great job of taping, mudding and coating the drywall. So far the walls look clean and smooth. Just had a few areas where paint coverage was lean. Overall, satisfied with his work.

Very professional service. The painters arrived on time both for the initial quote and then each day of work. They were polite and courteous - removing their shoes upon entering my house or making sure to wear booties so as not to track snow/mud throughout. In addition, they cleaned up after themselves each day and took care to secure the paint and tools each night in an area of my house which would not be disruptive. They had to remove some hooks in order to paint around them and took the time to reinstall these the next day after the paint had dried. They worked quickly and did high quality work as well. In addition after completion of the project, they conducted a final walk-through to make sure all the work was completed to my satisfaction. My house looks brand-new! I will definitely use them again for future service and highly recommend them!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
