Susan is capable of staging a Chicago city townhouse to showcase the best features. She also identified and helped us complete all the little items that prepare a house for showing. We received compliments from our realtor, and we believe this staging will make a difference.

Hired Glam House Home Staging to stage our condo in the Lakeview area in Chicago. We were able to sell our place in 2 days and getting the place staged was key to attracting interested parties. Katy did a fantastic job showcasing the positives of the place. I appreciated that she left the staged furniture in the unit until closing in case the deal went side ways. Her pricing was reasonable and her movers were professional and prompt. If we have to stage a place again, I'd definitely enlist Katy's help.

Carol did an excellent job staging our condo. Her option was affordable yet excellent quality -- I would never go to one of the ultra expensive home staging companies after using Carol's services. She worked around some unique features in our condo including an oddly shaped room and a covering a badly placed fuse box with some artwork, and somehow made both look great. Furniture was modern with a retro feel to it. She also brought to our attention a few things we wouldn't have known because we live out of state (no "for sale" sign in front of our building, for instance). Only minor downside was a slight miscommunication regarding logistical matters but I would definitely work with Carol again.

Karlene helped me with organizing my home, she was excellent, we had moved to a smaller home , due to down sizing from a bigger home and I had too many things to fit into a smaller home , but she helped me to use the space I have to fit everything and get rid of what I did not need any more. She has unbelievable energy and is a perfectionist in whatever she does, I would highly recomend her for a home organizer,by the time we were done she become s friend and a part of our family.

Excellent service in the installation of our front entry fiberglass door. We are beyond satisfied. We couldn't help but noticed Daniel's close attention to detail and exceptional skills in what he does. Now, we are looking to have him add a security storm door as well. Daniel is highly professional and definitely not greedy, but fair when it comes to quotes. I now can't wait for him to do more work in our home. I'm glad to have Daniel on our home project team!!!! 😊

Molly did an amazing job. She was professional and talented. She came out promptly for an estimate and staged my condo within 2 days. I was apprehensive on using a staging service but it really made an impact. The furniture, design and decor gave the unit modern, cozy, live in and warm look. I highly recommend Molly Marino home staging service. She is a great choice!

We needed to stage our house very quickly to move to the West Coast. After we scheduled our consultation. We were sent a detailed list of things and how the project will be managed. Within 5 days our house was decluterred and staged. We needed to have our furniture moved right away so Sophia had all our things organized with movers and had new furniture staged in the house. Our realtor just had to bring a photographer to get our house listed. Everything was done quickly and efficiently. We felt at ease with this stressful move and ended selling our house in 9 days! Thanks to Space mkr’s team Amazon style our house looked like a magazine home! We moved 2 weeks ago in our new house! We liked the design Sophia did at our old home so Much, she will be designing and planning the layout Of our new home. Our family had a positive experience and loved working with a fun and creative team! Thank you again!

I have a new house that desperately needs more than white walls. I do not want it to look like clown town. Deb had been great at getting my ideas more in line with a cohesive and contemporary look. Deb has a keen eye for style. She has also done a great job blending my sense of design and my husband's lack of design. I cannot wait to get together again on my next design attack for the house I will need to freshen up and take it out of the '90's to sell it for the right price.

We have hired EJF Painting a number of times to paint both the interior and the exterior of our home in South Bend and, more recently, our newer home in Indianapolis. They live by the price they quote, even if the job turns out to be more of a problem than originally anticipated and the quality of the work is excellent. If they say they are going to be there at a certain time they are and when they are done, there is no mess left behind. Excellent attention to detail.

I lost one parent and downsized the other (long divorced) and had decided to stay in my parents home. Fern helped me to divest myself of 3 homes worth of furniture and "stuff", choose what to keep, and transformed the house into a whole new place reflecting my tastes (which she also helped me to distill). What impresses people who know me, was the (seemingly) effortless result of a few sentimental antiques showcased amid more modern and uncluttered furniture. One friend's comment, "It is absolutely Kimberlee!" What impressed me, was how quickly Fern absorbed my likes and dislikes, understanding my taste better than I imagined. She convinced me that I would love a dark purple accent wall in the living room, and after all my arguing, she was absolutely correct. Fern is empathetic, creative, and dependable, all huge benefits in a designer/decorator. She makes the collaboration of designer and client virtually stress-free, especially amazing considering this client who did not have well formed tastes... I might like it, not sure, but I like it this way, too, and this one is really comfortable as well, etc. Lakeside Interiors is enthusiastically endorsed for small projects like paint colors, to full overhauls.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does it mean to stage a home?

Home staging is the real estate strategy of decorating your home to be as marketable as possible to your target demographic. Home staging is done by interior decorators and other design pros hired by the homeowner or realtor, prior to putting a house on the market. Think of it as setting the stage for potential buyers to fall more easily in love with their future homes — and to spend top dollar to get them. It’s likely to be worth the investment: The Real Estate Staging Association reports that staged homes spend 90 percent less time on the market than those that are not staged. Home stagers can also be hired even if you’re not going anywhere. Stagers can consult on new layouts for your current home, much like an interior decorator.

Home staging can take place while you still occupy the house you plan to sell, or when the home is vacant. For an occupied home, the home stager will clear out clutter, rearrange furniture, and bring in decor and furniture as needed to create the perfect environment. Usually an occupied home has far too much of the current owner’s personality stamped on it, which makes it hard for prospective buyers to envision themselves living there. A home stager should neutralize and beautify the space. In vacant homes, a home stager will bring in furniture and decor so that potential buyers don’t walk into an empty house, which can be equally hard to imagine living in as a cluttered, occupied home.

How much does it cost to stage a home for sale?

Nationally, the price for home staging ranges between $750 and $1,500. The price varies based on how many rooms in the house need staging, whether furniture and decor are needed or the stager can work with the client’s belongings, whether the home is occupied or vacant, and the sale price of the home. Occupied homes typically cost less to stage as they are already furnished, and can require less time and resources than staging an empty house. The main tasks when staging an occupied home are rearranging and decluttering. Staging an empty house can be more expensive as furniture and decor need to be trucked in, requiring transportation, physical labor and potential rental fees. Here are some examples of average home staging costs:

        • 2-hour consultation: $200, includes DIY tips and guidance.
        • 1- to 2-hour consultation and design session: $250, including written report.
          • Additional design consulting: $65 per hour.
        • 8 hours of staging an occupied home: $800.
          • Hands-on staging involving moving furniture, hanging and moving art, and decluttering.
        • Starting price for staging a vacant home could be $2,200.
        • A home stager may charge 1 percent of the home’s selling price.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
