Hello, I recently hired this company to do some work on galvanized fence , and wroughtiron fence . I was satisfied with the work which was done entirely outdoors at freezing temperatures. It took longer than expected and was delayed by the first snow of the season in December in Chicago (about 4 inches) yet it was brought into completion as soon as possible under the circumstances. Robert is reliable, responsible, trustworthy And knows what he was doing. I will certainly hire him again Anna

Paul did a fabulous job on our wood stairs! He had to problem-solve on the spot to think of an effective, efficient way to remove nails left over from carpet squares we removed (the previous owner used a nail gun to secure the carpet squares in place). Thank you for making our stairs safe again!

We have hired many people on Thumbtack and David has by far been the best to work with. Repaired wood front porch, deck, and siding. He was to able solve a lot of complicated challenges with very smart and practical solutions. Our home is more than 100 years old and Dave intimately understood the quirks of older homes and how to approach repairs while being true to the original. The harder the task the more excited he seemed to take it on and the more proud upon completion. Would hire him again and highly recommend.

We have a rather large yard by suburban standards and were looking to replace the old rickety wooden fence surrounding it. We had Castle come out to review the project and give us an estimate. From the first day of working with them to the last day when the fence was fully installed, it was a complete pleasure and a great experience culminating in a beautiful fence! They did what they said they were going to do when they said they were going to do it and for what they said it was going to cost with no hidden surprises. Patrick and his crew were hardworking, respectful of our property, and professional. They went above and beyond making sure that everything from the permits to the removal of the old fence and deck to the prepping of the yard and the installation of the new fence went as smoothly as possible. We couldn't be happier with their work and with our new fence. The craftsmanship is absolutely gorgeous! I would hire them again in a heartbeat!

Mike Israel was hired to fix our concrete stamped patio. The company who installed it did not do a good job. Mike came out promptly and was able to clean up and seal the concrete. Looks better now and we are happy with the job he did. Pleasure to work with for estimate and job completion. You can tell he takes pride in his work. Would hire him again. Highly recommend doing business with his company.

We had a repair job - one panel of our fence had fallen down. I had called around and fence company after fence company told me the job was too small or out of their service area or they couldn't do it until 3 weeks out. Mike responded to my request promptly and was able to come out and do the work the next morning. He was early, he was quick, he was friendly, and he seemed to do a solid job.

I hired Adam to remove an old chain link fence and install a wooden privacy fence. Adam was communicative throughout the project and completed the work faster than he originally had quoted. He answered all my questions and did a great job! I'm very pleased with the work and plan to use his company again for other jobs.

Lee did an excellent job on our wood fence replacement. He was the first and best bid; very competitive pricing and no middlemen. The guy you talk to about the project is the guy who does it. Lee (and his crew) worked diligently and expeditiously to start on time and finish ahead of schedule. Quality worksmanship. Good price. Responsive and respectful. I wouldn't hesitate to use Lee again and recommend you give him a shot, too.

I don't usually write reviews, but I feel I owe them this. My yard was a mess. I had broken pavers , flooding issues, rotted out fence , and overgrown weeds. I was driving down my street and I saw these guys working on another house down the block. They had a yard sign out front with their info on it , so I gave them a call. Mark came out within a day to give me a estimate. I was impressed that these guys could handle every aspect of my project. Fence, landscaping, yard drain, and concrete! Their price was ok compared to other but seeing as they were doing everything, I thought it would be worth it. These guys knocked it out of the park, the pulled all the permits, they started working as soon as they said they would and wasted no time. Within 6 days, I had a totally brand new yard! New cedar fence, new concrete driveway, sidewalk, patio, and new sod. They installed a yard drain system thats so good, my neighbors stopped flooding! All around professional company with tons of knowledge. I would recommend them and use them again.

I had a solid experience with Craig. That man knows his stuff. He's a newer company so I wasn't quite sure at first but after speaking with him I thought I'd give him a shot since he seemed to know his stuff. Ended being a great turn, he did a very good job on my wood floor and did my drywall and painted all in a timely matter. I even asked him if he could put another coat on after it was done because I decided I wanted a different color and he had no problem with it and finished it quickly. Good prices too. He's very reasonable and fair. He seemed to take pride in making us happy more so than some past experiences. Hope this review helps, he's a nice option for remodeling work

Jordan from Man At Hand did several jobs for us last summer, both interior and exterior. Inside, he installed a closet door, installed several lights, installed a ceiling fan, and did some trim work. Outside, he installed a stockade fence, replaced deck posts, and deck railings. His work was of very good quality at a reasonable price.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
      • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
      • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
      • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
      • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

      • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
      • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
      • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
      • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
      • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
      • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
      • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
      • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
