We asked Ian to remove an old, built-in TV cabinet, to refinish the drywall and expand our master closet. Ian and his team rerouted electrical wiring in the family room and master bedroom as well. We also asked Ian to remove a second-floor laundry chute and refinish the drywall. We are very impressed with all the work Ian did, and will definitely call him back the next time we have carpentry-related work for our home! He was professional from start-to-finish ... very responsive when we inquired about a quote, he completed the work in a timely manner, and cleaned-up very nicely. And, Ian quoted a much better price than the other two contractors we asked. We will use Ian again, and recommend him to anyone looking to do the same work in their home.

SP General Contractors have completed several jobs at our house....remodeled my half bath, tiled my bathroom, laundry room, and kitchen, replaced my washtub, took down my drop ceiling and added can lights, painted my kitchen cabinets, replaced my dishwasher, hung my new over- the-stove microwave and vent, and the list goes on. They were very professional, on time, went above and beyond. We are so pleased with their work that we have hired them for the 4th time to install laminate floors in three rooms of our house. We highly recommend SP General Contractors. Sincerely, Cheryl Woods, Dayton Ohio

David built these gorgeous pop up tables for my food truck. Major focal point of the truck. Plus he is helping me with various projects as well: box window for truck, back-lit molding, modern hoosier cabinet, and a desk/workstation for my wife. The work David does is amazing, and will last forever. I would recommend him to anyone.

We hired Jerry to fully paint our new home, tile our bathrooms and laundry room, add a kitchen backsplash, and update sinks and shower in our bathrooms. He did a tremendous job with all of the work, with a careful eye to detail. He also helped us to add a few "extras," like under-cabinet lighting, once he got started. He was trustworthy, hard-working, and did a really quality job. We found the pricing fair and straight-forward, with Jerry willing to work with us to help us save money as we moved along. We absolutely plan to work with Jerry again in the future!

Roger painted cabinets and an accent wall and did a terrific job. He is a professional who takes pride in his work. He delivered all services in a very timely way, as promised, and for a fair price. There was a small area on the ceiling that was old paint color (different from the accent wall and not part of the agreed upon work) he is coming back to touch that up at no extra charge. As I said, he is a professional who wants his customer to be satisfied. I would recommend him without reservation.

Ron did an outstanding job of installing new oak kitchen cabinets in our home’s remodeled kitchen. We cannot say enough about his high quality workmanship. Our kitchen was not square or level and, Ron was able to overcome these obstacles. Ron went above what we expected and worked with the cabinet company to resolve some mismatched drawers issues, saving us the hassle. Ron meet with us before hand to discuss the installation and answer all our questions. He was also very coconscious about discussing any changes driven by the need to accommodate our imperfect kitchen walls. We have recommended Ron to our friends and would definitely hire him again.

I am an interior designer and Dustin Wuchterl has done several different projects for my clients. He has completed projects as small as custom planter boxes, to large scale projects of shiplap accent walls and custom built cabinets. Dustin is proffessional yet personable. His pricing is very fair. He is thorough and meticulous in his work, and always leaves the job site clean and tidy. Dustin is a very hard worker, thus completing tasks in a timely manner. He is trustworthy and honest, which is sometimes hard to come by. I highly recommend him to all my clients, knowing that they will receive a quality end product, be dealing with a trustworthy and proffessional craftsman, that will give them a fair and reasonable price. Not sure what more you could ask for!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
