Hi Solutions is awesome. We have been looking for a handyman for awhile and we feel that we have found our handyman. Walt was very responsive and within 24hours of our project post, they reached out and preformed the services. We needed our kitchen faucet replaced. Christopher came out to install our faucet. He was personable, knowledgeable, and worked hard. He explained what he was doing and assured us that we bought a decent faucet. We look forward to hiring them again to do some more work.

Antonio was great! He took a last-minute appointment to assemble 2 large pieces of home gym equipment, an elliptical and a weight bench. We wanted to start off saying that we love Thumbtack. We hired Tim because of the wonderful reviews that he had and he was so quick to get back to us on a proposal. He was very fixable with his schedule and ours. We were amazed that he offered to come out New Year's Day to patch up/fix our dry walling in our up stairs bathroom. Tim arrived in a timely manner and immediately started tackling the job. Another thing that was so touching about hiring him is he brought his wife along to watch him work because he had a busy schedule the next couple of days and wouldn't get to spend much time with her. We both enjoyed their company as he worked on the bathroom. He actually taught my husband how to patch dry walling, which was very nice because we are getting our house ready to sale. He finished the bathroom project in a few hours and we were very happy with the results. We will definitely hire Tim in the future and recommend him to anyone that needs an all around handyman.

The job went well and the movers were very quick in taking boxes to and from each location. My furniture was wrapped in shrink wrap plus blankets to ensure it was not harmed in the process. The movers did arrive later than expected and I had to call the owner to find out where they were. Other than the early setback the move went smoothly with no issues. Would use again. Highly recommended movers at an affordable cost.

Carlos did a wonderful job repairing my deck. He immediately set an appointment with me for an estimate, he gave me different options on what kind of repairs could be done. He was affordable and completed the work within the timeline I had. He was very professional and nice to work with. He even had someone come and fix a plumbing issue I had. Very reliable and affordable. I will definitely work with Carlos again.

I would highly recommend Ordonez Home Improvement for anything you need done around your home. I got quick, high-quality service at Avery affordable price. He installed a Roman Shadein my kitchen, which required installing a wood mount. He repainted and refinished a part of my bathroom that had water damage from condensation. And he patiently helped me move furniture and hang pictures.

Rob assisted me with installing a light fixture on my balcony (already prewired) and with replacing a transformer in my kitchen track lighting fixture. He performed the work on a Sunday, which was a major help with my busy schedule. It took just a few hours for him to finish. He did a very nice job. He was on time, professional and very courteous. I would recommend Rob and would use him again for Handyman services in the future.

I came home to a water leak after work and contacted plumbers late Tuesday evening via thumbtack. He promptly responded early Wednesday morning and showed up after work to provide a free quote which I felt was affordable given the type of work. I recontacted him that evening to tell him I would like to proceed using his services and asked when he was available. He quickly replied that he could conduct work the next day in the afternoon. He was efficient, punctual, responsive, did a great job and affordable...all things I feel are essential for running a successful business. I would recommend him to anyone and will definitely use him again if I require additional services.

Juan was absolutely wonderful. An honest man - which i think is a value and trait that you seldom find nowadays. For a homeowner like me, it's important to find a handyman that is honest, professional, responsive and punctual. He comes to the job on time, he updates you about the job progress so you are aware of it. Best of all, Juan gives you a fair price. He knows the value of doing a great job for a fair price! Because of that, I have no doubt that I will hire him again for any any minor repairs or major projects in my house. I highly recommend him and his company!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a property management company do?

Property management companies manage the rental of residential homes, apartments, condos, commercial spaces and retail spaces. Property managers can oversee just a single unit or many properties, whether those sites are inhabited full-time or are vacation rentals. A property management company helps a property owner or landlord find tenants; collects rent; takes care of accounting, property maintenance and repairs; handles on-site management; and manages vacation rental check-in and checkout tasks. Although many property owners or landlords successfully manage their own rental real estate, a property management company can help you handle tenant issues and maintenance problems, especially if you are not located in the same city or state. Most property management companies deal with tenants directly, and their tasks include:

  • Marketing the rental property
  • Collecting rent
  • Handling repair problems
  • Responding to tenant complaints
  • Evicting tenants

A property management company may be a good choice for property owners who have several investment properties, live far away from the rental property, or don’t have time for hands-on management.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

  • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
  • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
    • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
  • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Why is property management important?

A property management company can be a landlord’s greatest asset. As a neutral third party, the property manager handles the day-to-day operations of a real estate investment, from a single vacation home to a large apartment building or several rental properties. A property management company can be especially helpful to landlords who own several units and can’t manage each of them individually, or those who live too far from their investment properties to meet with renters and oversee maintenance. Property management is particularly important if your rentals are part of an affordable housing program. To receive financial assistance from the government, the landlord must comply with a complicated set of rules; property management companies should have both experience and expertise in complying with the rules specific to each housing program.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

  • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
  • Toilet replacement: $75.
  • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
  • Faucet replacement: $125.
  • Garbage disposal: $75.
