I met with one of the firm's attorney for a consultation regarding immigration status of our company's employees and became the firm's longstanding client. I have been impressed by his professionalism and knowledge, he explained everything in a very structured and clear way. The attorneys and paralegals were answering all my questions anticipating others, provided and still provide clear answers and ways to get further information for our HR department. The law firm staff is always available with full informational support. Thanks.

So far I've only received a consultation from Janet but what I can say is that she truly wants to help clients instead of draining their wallets. Eventually I will need legal assistance with my case but Janet will be there when I do, as opposed to other attorneys who seem to create the need (along with the hefty price tag).

Faraji Rosenthal is a thorough, intelligent and compassionate attorney who helped get my daughters drug possession charges dismissed. I first contacted Mr. Rosenthal at 6:30AM after leaving The hospital where my adult daughter was recovering from an overnight drug overdose and was being charged with drug possession. Since it was so early in the day I sent him an email and he contacted me back only15 minutes later. I was in a daze, panicked for my child's health and fearful of a first time drug charge. All of this was new to me. I knew nothing about interacting with the police and court, especially on a felony.mMr. Rosenthal was calm, patient, compassionate and detailed in explaining step by step what was going to happen after my child got out of the hospital and had to turn herself over to authorities. He spent a lot of time on the phone with us that weekend ( he was out of town on a prior commitment ) while my daughter was in jail. His experience as a former district attorney helped him explain the Courts point of view. As my daughters attorney he managed to get her released without posting bail. This was a huge help. The first of many positive results in our interaction with him. We are former residents of Fairfax but have moved 9 hours away. My daughters arrest came when we were back visiting Fairfax. Mr. Rosenthal was mindful of our travel restrictions and our interactions were mainly by text and email. He was quick in all responses to us. When we had phone calls his confident, calm and respectful demeanor always left us feeling better about the case. At the same time, he never made promises of outcome and was patient in answering our repeated questions and concerns. Because of unusual circumstances our case lingered for almost 2 years. While our daughter was his client, we paid his fee. Mr. Rosenthal always kept us in the loop, with her permission, and was respectful of her wishes, despite her often combative attitude due to mental health issues. He was so patient with her, listened to her and helped her understand in detail her choices and the ramifications of each choice. When her case was continued after a year, he quickly corrected the Probation Office from extending her probation ( which the judge had not ordered) saving her from more expense, travel and time. As a result of his professional and thorough representation her felony charge was dismissed. Every interaction with Mr. Rosenthal was a positive one. If you need a thorough, professional, kind, patient and winning attorney don't look any further. Faraji Rosenthal is the best.

We needed an immigration lawyer and hired Mr. Mcvicker based on a recommendation by a family friend, who also happens to be one of the best attorneys in the DMV area. Mr. Mcvicker did not disappoint! He prepared us for every single step of the immigration process, ensuring we had all of the required documentation by USCIS. He was transparent, and also flexible with his schedule, often meeting with us after standard business hours or on the weekends. Mr. Mcvicker was accessible via email any day of the week always responded promptly. Suffice to say we encountered no problems throughout the process, and that's all thanks to Mr. Mcvicker!

I had an experience at Giant and I called 1-800-LAWYERS. After my search, I came across Bond Law. I left a phone message with them. They promptly returned my call and were highly professional. I discussed with them the issues I had with Giant and was told they would be able to help me. They kept in contact with me and updated me on the case frequently. They met and exceeded my expectations. I appreciate the work that was done. I am very happy with the outcome. Should I have any issues in the future, I will definitely contact Bond Law again as well as refer others to them that need legal assistance.

I am still working with Ms. McKinley but so far I have only positive feedback about working with her. She communicates back via email or phone call, she is responsive to suggestions, she doesn’t sugar coat and she will work with you. When working with attorneys, the hardest part is getting them to call you back. She at least notifies you if she is delayed or needs to get back to you, instead of leaving you wondering what is next. I am using her as my divorce attorney. I wouldn’t want any of my friends or family to go through divorce, but if so I would certainly recommend Ms. McKinley.

My name is Mark Henley Jr.In December I was working part time for a repair shop delivering transmissions.I was pulled over on route 95 in Baltimore. My employer did not have the proper paper work in the work vehicle I was driving. The vehicle had false plates and the troopers impounded it,Even though I was not the owner of the car, because I was driving I was charged with 8 counts of false and fraudulent paper work.I could have served up to a year in prison.I called Mr Traub to represent me in this matter even though I live 2 hours away.Mr Traub was very attentive and eager to help me in my matter.I had a trial date this afternoon in Baltimore City.I was nervous and anxious for what the outcome could be,before I even got out my car to walk through the court house doors Mr Traub called me and told me that he got all of my charges dropped and I wasn’t held accountable.I was over joyed.I have never had an experience with an attorney on any level with consistency and communication. If you call anyone other than Mr Hillel Traub, you will be a sad customer indeed

I have had a great experience working with Jay. He was highly responsive, actively listened to the intricacies of my legal matter, and ultimately provide me some great options for resolution. His retainer was very reasonable, and I feel I received great value for the money paid. I will continue to retain him as my personal attorney for corporate law matters, and would highly recommend him to others.

My name is Young B. Kim. I am a semiconductor designer at Samsung Electronics. I was referred to Attorney Chang by a number of my colleagues at Samsung and from International SoC Design Conferences. Initially I contacted Attorney Change regarding my qualification under National Interest Waiver and get my green card via that route, but Attorney Chang recommended me to take the route of doing the First priority person of extraordinary ability. We submitted the EB1 petition with premium processing and it was approved exactly 7 days after the submission!!! I was so happy that I will be immigrating with my family to the US- The interview at US embassy at Korea was a breeze, took about 5 minutes. Even though Aaron carefully went over what I will be asked at the Embassy, I didn't get to do any of the explanations to the embassy officer. I will be moving to Portland, Oregon the new job in August!!! Highly recommend Attorney Chang for his expertise!!!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

What should you look for in a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer will advocate for your legal rights if you’ve been hurt in an accident at work or in daily life, have suffered from medical malpractice, or are struggling to have your insurance carrier cover your needs. It may be helpful to talk with two or three lawyers before selecting one. When looking for a personal injury lawyer, research their reviews and make sure former clients have had good experiences with them. Next, make sure the personal injury lawyer has experience and proven success winning cases similar to yours. Confirm that the lawyer is licensed to provide services in your state. When you find a qualified personal injury lawyer with whom you want to work, freely discuss payment and fees before any work begins. Most lawyers offer a free consultation to learn what your case is about and explain their rates. Personal injury attorneys typically receive a percentage of your settlement (called a contingency fee), so they are paid after the trial or case is complete. Keep in mind that some attorneys have fees that you must pay even if you don’t win your trial. It’s important to understand these details before work begins so you don’t have any unhappy surprises later. Lastly, it’s wise to choose a personal injury lawyer that you have confidence in and with whom you can communicate openly and honestly.

How do you find a good immigration lawyer?

Research is key to finding a good immigration lawyer. The immigration process can be overwhelming and complex, so a trustworthy advocate is critical. When you have identified several eligible candidates, verify their immigration law license to protect yourself and your finances. Once you have a set of licensed immigration lawyers in mind, choose one based on these considerations:

  • Mutual respect: You want an immigration lawyer who treats you and your family with kindness and consideration. You’ll do the same for them.
  • Availability: Before hiring, note if they have responded promptly to your emails and calls. You don’t want to hire someone you have to chase around.
  • Proven success: Read former client reviews and research their success rate with cases similar to yours.
  • Transparent rates: Ask directly about what their rates are, how they bill, and what they estimate your legal fees will be. Ask if they will sign a fee agreement, and get receipts for all fees paid.
  • Verify who will handle your case: Sometimes junior lawyers work on firm cases. This is okay, as long as you have discussed it and are comfortable with it. When junior lawyers or paralegals are working on your case, ask if the hourly rate is lower.
  • Be wary of anyone who promises you specific results: No case is certain, and the immigration lawyer should be honest about what you can expect.

How much does an immigration lawyer cost?

Immigration lawyers are experts in the nuances of the highly complex United States immigration system. They help clients of all backgrounds petition for immigration status and become U.S. citizens, and can represent clients who are facing deportation or detention. Nationally, the cost people pay for immigration lawyers averages $500-$1,010. The services you need will have a huge effect on your costs. For routines cases, such as applying for a travel visa, an immigration lawyer may be able to confidently quote you a set price, while more open-ended cases may be billed at an hourly rate of $200-$500, or more, depending on the reputation and experience of the firm and lawyer. Before hiring an immigration lawyer, ask what their plan for your case is and what expected costs may be. Many immigration lawyers work from retainers, and request a set amount of money upfront from which to work. For example, a lawyer who charges $300 per hour may estimate $4,000 for a standard family-based immigration case, the common process in which a U.S. citizen petitions for permanent residency for their spouse, fiancee or family members.
