Carlos scheduled my appointment quickly, stuck to the quote he gave me, and *most importantly* got my highly kid-and-pet-dirtied carpets clean in just a few hours. We would definitely hire him again.

Could not be more pleased about my experience with Fenix Floor Coverings! Prompt and polite communication leading up to appointment and quick, professional stretching and reinstallation of carpet and new padding. Even though I’d forgotten to include a hallway in the scope of work, they had the materials and willingness to add that at minimal charge on site. I would not hesitate to hire Fenix for future work on any flooring project and would recommend them to any friend or family member without hesitation. Thanks for making it look like our basement flood never even happened!

I have been looking for quite a bit trying to find a local pro to perform carpet re-stretching but had no luck. When I first posted on Thumbtack, Orlando was the first to reply but I noticed he was roughly an hour and a half from my house. I messaged him to see if he services my area and he said yes. I then asked him what his availability is on Saturday afternoon and he said he could take care of it the next day (Sunday). We agreed and he showed up promptly at 10AM and took care of a few areas in my home where I needed the carpet restretched. He also had all the right tools and you could tell he knew what he was doing. I would recommend Orlando to anyone as his work is top quality!

Gary and his crew were absolutely fabulous and very knowledgable! They completed 5 rooms, a study, and a hallway in record time. The quality of their work and the carpet quality surpassed our expectations. As a side task, they mowed, trimmed, put mulch in our large flower beds, and beautified our expansive corner lot with great care. We will be repeat customers!!

Matt pulled out the carpet in our basement and installed a wood grain tile. He did a great job with the installation and also communicating about the time frame for completing the job. He made see that the grout lines were as narrow as possible to achieve the full wood like unlike some contractors who take the lazy approach. We plan on hiring him again when we upgrade the tile in our bathroom.

I give Jose Gonzalez and his team top marks. The paint job they did on the interior of my home (three stories, 4 bedrooms and 3.5 baths) and exterior front entrance was outstanding and exceeded my expectations. Replacement of the front storm door and locks on two exterior doors was also excellent, as was staining of my deck, repair to a piece of siding, complete interior house cleaning, and shampooing of all carpets. Their attention to detail was phenomenal. Not only was the paint job fantastic, but they took great care in ensuring there was no errant paint on floors/carpet, etc. Jose took great pains to ensure all work was perfect. When he was not satisfied about an aspect of the job, he had it redone until it met his demanding standards and I was completely satisfied. In order to compete the job within the allotted time, Jose and his crew worked long hours. Thanks to Jose and his team, my house never looked so good and I am confident that it will be sold quickly at a premium price. Jose and Brandon have my highest recommendation for any home repair/painting project; if Jose says they can do it, be assured that it will be done to the highest standards and completed on time.

Robert completed a hard wood install for us, taking out the carpet from our living room which had become worn out from two kids running around. Robert was able to remove the carpet, integrate the wood floor from the kitchen to the living room and it looks fantastic. The wood floor now looks like it was installed all at the same time. If your looking to get any type of flooring completed, I'm confident Robert will do an amazing job and will be the most cost effective.

We had a complicated situation, and I am overall happy with the outcome. Randy was very responsive, and provided an estimate quickly. Unfortunately, he didn't realize there were hardwood floors upstairs, so after hiring him there was a big surprise change in cost. The new cost was higher than other vendors. I also was disappointed by the language in their contract, which heavily and unfairly favors the vendor. I proposed amendments to Randy, which he accepted, saying he's never had contractual issues anyway after 15 years of business. He does good work and I can see why. The job itself was hard. The current floors were scratched up, and they were pine that was stained a deep color. Randy recognized the issue and explained it well. They had to water pop, and match color the very deep (and probably unique color). It took longer than he anticipated, which complicated my schedule (since I live out of town), but Randy was responsive, apologetic, and very professional. The initial work was a bit messy, with stain on some of the baseboards, and lots of dust around. To be fair, they weren't fully done when I went down to look, and Randy made sure the issues were fixed. There remained one stain on a carpet today, Randy promises to look at it and clean it. Bottom line : the floors look spectacular, it was a hard job, they did it well, and were responsive, professional, and fair minded. Actually, the responsiveness and professionalism Randy showed was remarkable. He also responds very quickly once you hire him (he doesn't just disappear once the contract is signed), and I really appreciate that.

Eric & his brother are outstanding, the "real deal." Eric gave us the best quote, and stood by it. They did a wonderful job ripping out ancient carpet/installing bamboo flooring in master bedroom; they were courteous, professional, prompt. We were so impressed we hired them for more work (installing new ceiling fans). We will hire them again without hesitation.

Hugo and his team refinished 765 square feet of white oak floors that had carpet epoxy and termite damage. When they were done (two day job) you could not tell which boards had been damaged and replaced. In addition, the stain was beautiful. They did great work and I would highly recommend him and his team. On a side note, the polyurethane was unbearable and even seeped into our fridge, our cabinets, and on clean dishes, so be mindful of your food and make sleeping arrangements for a few days and air out your house.

Russ was great and very accommodating. His guys showed up and worked hard. Our floor and stairs turned out so beautiful. I mean, really beautiful! The only thing I can complain about is that there were several spots on the baseboards and the carpet leading to the basement were stain was left by an accidental hit with the brush, drips, or finger prints. We purchased ultra white paint from Home Depot and my husband went around and touched up all the areas, and about 20 minutes later everything looked crisp, clean and brand new. We still have to address the carpet, but I think it will be an easy fix.

The service you provided was impeccable. Knowing I had less than a week to replace the carpet before my new tenants moved in, you made my experience extremely stress free. On top of the excellent service, you saved me some money and it was right within my budget. I just wanted to thank you for your responsiveness with everything. Thank you and your staff for a job well done! I will highly recommend your company others.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

  • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
  • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
  • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
  • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
  • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
