Excellent service from start to finish. Luis and Joe came out to do an estimate for insulation they were curtious and on time. After a day the team came to finish the work, there was only 4-6" of original insulation left in the attic. EBRR and team showed up on time and ready to work. Half a day later we had a fully insulated attic. The crew even removed the old house fan that was leaking air into the attic and put new drywall over it. I could have gotten the project done cheaper by a few hundred dollars but none of the contractors I had come out were nearly as professional, polite, and knowledgeable as the EBRR team. I highly recommend this team.

Needed a handyman to repair several items before I sold my condo, including multiple cracks in drywall and a broken faucet handle. Walter and his team not only repaired everything perfectly, but the price was more than reasonable when compared to other offers I received. Not only that, but I live out of state, and Walter was in constant communication and provided detailed before and after pictures. Very happy with the level of work and service provided.

Found Tim on thumtack. After getting appointment set, I had to leave town for a couple of weeks. That did not effect Tim's stride, He stayed in touch letting me know he was ready when I was. He assisted us in finding a truck at a reasonable price. On the day he was early and I was late, again it did not break his stride. We were moving a 10x15 storage unit of loosely stacked articles to a 10x10 unit at a more reasonably priced storage facility. Again that did not brake his stride. He with one helper, that he left in his dust at getting the stuff stacked. He stacked the boxes tight and there was know problem getting the articles in the unit. He treats your articles as his. Tim is personable, professional, efficient and affordable. In fact at this time I have scheduled him to take the boxes out of the unit for me to look for some important papers and later in the day return and replace it in the unit. I trust Tim with all my moving needs. He also does several other jobs including drywall and furniture assembling. Thanks to Tim, be using you again. If you don't use Time for you needed services, big mistake.

I hired Herbert and his assistant to help me convert my van into a camper. The first project involved putting in a wood floor (over insulation) and building a bed frame. I could not be any more delighted with the result! Herbert was extremely flexible in scheduling around my weekends. After weather washed us out X2, he gave up a Sunday to help me with my van. Herbert kept in contact with me via text and email as we sorted out the final details. He picked up the needed supplies, arrived promptly, and did a fantastic job with the floor and bed. This was not an easy task as a van floor/walls have many challenges to work with. The completed project is even better than I hoped for! Working with Herbert was a delight. He is professional, friendly, flexible and very kind. I look forward to hiring Herbert for several other van projects and projects for my condo.

Jennri and his team (and he really has a team, each who specialize) did an amazing job for us, completing a total house renovation that was abandoned half way through. They were thorough, made good suggestions, worked quickly, and offered very fair prices. They did electrical work, tiling, drywall, painting, and installation of appliances and cabinets. They did really great work - I've already recommended him several times! We also hired his cleaning services to clean our (really really gross) old house before we sold it and they left it totally spotless (including the oven!!) for a great price. We will definitely continue to hire him for anything that comes up!

Dave did an excellent job on repairing my leaky ceiling and drywall along my windows. He also looked for leaks outside and did some additional caulking to ensure no additional water leaks got in. He was responsive and very detail oriented. Great experience at affordable prices.

GET Home Improvement and Cleaning LLC completed both inside and outside the house projects. Inside the house, GET Home demoed, framed, drywalled, sistered a joist brace, painted, completed the trim, installed hardwood railing, doors, and corrected the toilet connection. In all three county inspections (framing, pre-conseal, final), Arlington county inspectors reviewed and passed GET’s interior work in the first inspection. Outside the house, GET Home power washed the large patio, stripped and painted a wooden front porch cover and cleaned the property. Overall, I was very satisfied with GET Home’s work and professionalism.

From start to finish, Eric and team were invaluable in handling our raccoon problem. Always prompt, courteous and professional, we were so thankful we decided to trust Pest Proof once it was completed. The job was quite intense including the trapping & removal of two adult raccoons, removal & replacing of all attic contents and insulation, disinfection & deodorizing of the attic prior to laying new insulation and securing gable vents to prevent future entry. Eric was always available when we called, even when awaiting the birth of their new son! We are so appreciative to Eric and his team, and wish them the best of luck.

Drywall repair. Work was done efficiently and for a very fair price. Additional materials had to be picked up which delayed the work start slightly, but the quality of work was very good. Would hire again.

I ended up hiring Norman for other jobs than doing kitchen cabinets as he was versatile enough. He is the most mellow, good-natured workman I have ever worked with and I enjoyed working with him. It was pain to install the light fixtures as one drywall was brittle but Norman was very patient. He didn't like to rush things and I agreed with him that too much rush took the Joy out of the work. Seemed money was less important than do a good job and enjoy the work. When he said he would come back to finish the job, he came back. I felt I could trust him and I did trust him. But I told him he could be more efficient by better organizing all his tools and materials needed for the job. Regardless, I definitely would hire him again.

Paul's work was excellent. He came on-site to provide an estimate then performed the work exactly as he described. The price was very reasonable. He removed the old damaged drywall, installed 2x6 support boards between the frames then hung and painted new drywall and reinstalled the closet shelving with new support brackets. The closet shelves will never fall again! :-) The job site was always thoroughly cleaned before he left for the day. A true professional.

I asked David to fix drywall and re-caulk my bathtub. He did an excellent job and he was careful and clean. The drywall looks perfect (you’d never be able to tell it was fixed) and the bathtub looked pristine when he was done. I plan to recommend him to friends and use him for future projects.

Comfenergy did a very thorough consultation and showed us many areas we could improve. We elected to do our attic insulation, have a bathroom vent redirected, and update the insulation in our unfinished basement through them. They got the job done very quickly.

Turcios Drywall came out to do an estimate the SAME DAY that I submitted a request for quotes. They sent me an estimate the same evening, and was ready to work on repairing my walls + ceilings. They had the best price, are so friendly, are super responsive, made sure our house stayed clean during & after they worked on our home, and even left us the left over paint to use, in case we wanted to use it. Excellent service, and I'd highly recommend!

I hired Antonio, of Renaissance Restoration, to do several projects. They included: 1) rebuilding the curb in my shower that was installed improperly by a different contractor; 2) Finishing a half-bath remodel that included refinishing and painting the drywall after they had be damaged from wallpaper removal, installing a vanity including plumbing and trim; 3) Repairing water-damaged hardwood floors and refinishing hardwood floors in the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, hall and stairway; 4) Expanding the kitchen entrance by 2 inches, repairing and refinishing the drywall and wood floor. I was at first skeptical to hire one person to complete all these tasks due to the variety of skills required. Fortunately, Antonio had all the skills necessary to complete the job expertly and timely. His attention to detail and vast experience with carpentry and contracting work in general proved to be invaluable. The end result of each project was even better than I had expected. Needless to say I would hire Antonio again for my next project.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

  • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
  • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
  • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

  • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
  • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.
