We hired Sam C. for face painting and balloon artistry services for our Community Fall Festival. The artists were both professional, kind to all the children, and created fantastic face paint designs. The balloon artist designs were so unique and often looked complicated. Absolutely what we were hoping for! We will definitely hire them again. Only suggestion would be for them to arrive and start set up 15 minutes prior to the event.

Razia is a Talented, Gifted Henna Artist. I am from Los Angeles but if I was in Baltimore I would have go to her to get henna done every month. Her design was exemplary, the Henna color was beautiful just the way I like it:))). Razia is kind, patient, caring, and fun to be with while she was applying my Henna. I wish she had a shop in LA area or she move to LA lol!!!! Well that said I am her very happy customer for life.

I'm writing this under my boyfriend's account but I am a 39 year old female who loves henna! I have had henna done on my hands twice now by Shabnam and she is fabulous. Both times I went to her house to have it done and she could not have been more accommodating. The work she does is brilliant and it is just an over all great experience. I highly recommend her!

I called henna when my other mehndi person bailed out for my home warming and Navratri gettogether. Henna was very quivk to accept and was very professional. She did some very beautiful and intricate designs that all the young girls wanted and was very skillful in managing the crowd. She has a very pleasing personality and my guests had a great time with her. Thank you henna, you were a rock star :)!

Hiba from Henna Al Hanna was fantastic! She provided henna for my 6 nieces, ages ranging from 6-13, and they all thought it was really cool. Her designs were beautiful, and she did a free style design on my sister-in-law. My nephews thought it was so cool that they asked her to do henna on them, and Hiba free-styled a Superman logo and other boy favorites. Both price and service were great, and I would definitely hire her again.

Chelsea did an absolutely phenomenal job on the white henna for my wedding. She spoke with me the entire time (3 1/2 hours!) Which helped the time fly by. She treated me so kindly and my dad even asked if I had known her for a while because she spoke to me like a long time friend. However, it was only the first time we met, and we had only spoken a few times before the wedding. I will be adding pictures of the henna once my photographer is done preparing them (should be within the next 6 weeks). I highly recommend Cardamom & Clove Henna!!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does a henna tattoo stay on?

Typically a henna tattoo stays on anywhere from one to three weeks. Henna artists work with henna paste, also called mehndi, which dyes the skin for a short period of time. An important part of Indian culture, the use of henna has become increasingly popular in the United States, with henna artists providing henna tattoos for weddings, as event entertainment and for other special events. Henna artists typically apply their designs to the palms and backs of the hands, the wrists, up to the elbows, and from the feet up to the knees. To preserve the rich color of your henna tattoo and help it set, avoid water as much as possible within the first 24 hours of application. The color will be richest during the first week. Brides may want to have their henna tattoos applied one or two days before the wedding for optimal results.

What is the meaning behind henna tattoos?

Henna tattoos, as they are called in the United States, have a long tradition in Indian, African and Middle Eastern cultures. For centuries, the leaves of dried henna plants have been ground into a fine paste to be used as a temporary and nontoxic skin dye. This form of body decoration has been used in celebrations, weddings and ceremonial rites of passage in many cultures. Often in Hindu weddings, henna artists decorate the hands and feet of the bride (and at times the groom) with intricate designs. In some Muslim traditions, henna artists paint women with henna designs as they are in their final stages of pregnancy. In the United States, popular culture has adopted this beautiful body art and henna artists provide brides (and sometimes grooms) with temporary henna tattoos. Henna artists are also a popular choice for entertainment at corporate events, birthday parties, bachelorette parties and festivals. Henna artists may charge anywhere from $10 to $300 per hour.

How much does it cost to get a henna tattoo?

Nationally, the average cost to hire a henna artist is between $100 and $180 per hour. Rates will vary by location and the experience of the individual henna artist; it’s possible to find artists who charge less than $50 per hour. Some henna artists charge an hourly rate, especially for corporate events or festivals where they are providing service to multiple people within an hour. They may also charge flat rates for bridal and wedding services or special events. Here are some examples of average cost:

      • Hourly rate: $65-$85 or more per hour. Price is dependent on event size and number of attendees.
      • Starting rate for minimal palm designs: $15 or more.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands and wrist and bottom of feet up to the ankle: $175.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the mid-arm and feet to above the ankle: $300.
      • Henna tattoos covering the hands to the elbow and the feet to the knee: $450.
