Mr. Queen was professional and inquisitive about my pain and needs regarding massage treatment. Mr. Queen was flexible and met me at my home to provide services. Oils that were used were of good quality and had great aroma. My deep tissue massage was relaxing, therapeutic and the music played set the mood for a tranquil environment. I was grateful for his service and tipped him. I look forward to a working relationship with Mr. Queen and will be referring him to my friends who believe in life long self-care. Thank you! Rorrie is wonderful! She literally got me through a difficult pregnancy with her skills and knowledge of prenatal massage, and I have continued to see her for the two years after giving birth. Her combination of traditional massage, unique therapies like cupping, and fascial stretch therapy allows her to effectively treat and correct any pain I might have. She is professional, friendly and always prompt. I can not recommend Rorrie more highly!

Ed has been my Personal Trainer for the past 2 years and has helped me through my many fitness goals. I originally started working with Ed to lose weight. Once I met me goal weight I switched gears and wanted to focus on my running endurance, Ed switched my training to meet that goal. For the past couple of months I have wanted to work of muscle definition. Once again Ed was there with a new training plan and how I'm loving the results. I tried to do it alone but found that I more consistent & saw far better results when working with Ed a couple times a week. So, if being my Personal Trainer wasn't enough, he's currently in Massage Therapy school and convinced me to get a massage from him. I was a bit skeptical at first but as it turns out, Ed's just as professional & skilled in massages as he is in Personal Training. To date, he has given me 5 massages. Each time he has been completely professional, addressed my problem areas, and given an amazingly relaxing massage.

Mr. Tsakounis (Thom) is a skilled and caring therapist. We came to "A Quiet Journey Counseling " center for couples counseling. My husband was very reluctant at first, but quickly found Thom to be a supportive and understanding ally. Feeling like Thom "got " him, and us, allowed our work with Thom to progress quickly. As a mental health therapist myself, I have very high expectations for fellow counselors. Thom met or exceeded my expectations! He is well versed in a number of holistic, cognitive behavioral and Gestalt modalities, and a genuinely caring human being. While my husband and I have more work to do, Thom has supported us and given us new tools to communicate more effectively in our relationship. I reccommend Mr. Tsakounis whole-heartedly!

The things that impressed me the most about Mr. Nixon were his professional manner and his respect for my privacy. He made sure I was comfortable and covered except for the area he was working on at the time. He worked with me on what I needed and asked for feedback, creating a very custom treatment. I have a back injury, so trust was a big factor. Because of the conversation before hand about what I needed and what to expect, I was relaxed within minutes and could take full benefit of the massage. I look forward to working together on this healing journey. Thank you Reggie.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
