Ill be honest, I got lucky finding Dave. Years ago, I saw an ad in the Baltimore City newspaper, a place where Dave stopped advertising shortly after I called him. Youll have the same luck learning from a dynamic artist. Each lesson has as much energy as the first, you will never get bored. If you're looking for a professional, experienced, and dedicated musician you found him. I knew nothing about the bass before taking lessons with Dave. He always puts the student's musical interest first providing solid instruction. He structured each lesson to my interests, i.e. if I wanted to learn Le Chic's Good Times, Dave didn't try to convince me to do something else; he went with what I asked. And Dave is totally accessible. Ive had lessons in his apartment, studio, house, and on Skype and FaceTime. He even worked with me while overseas in France via Skype, thats 6 hours time difference. Dont kid yourself, if you are serious about learning the bass so is Dave. Hell find a way to make it work. The best part is during each lesson and over the years he incorporated fundamental musical knowledge to build my understanding and repertoire. If you work hard, listen, and be patient you will grow.
I spent four years a bass student of Jason's and cannot give high enough praise. His skill on a wide range of styles, knowledge of music and the theory behind it is amazing. As is his patience with even rank beginners, like me. Most certainly a teacher i would encourage anyone desiring to learn from the start, or to improve on existing abilities, to seek out.
Ive been taking guitar lessons from Gregg every other week for the last 6 months. The main reason I decided to seek out private guitar lessons from an instructor, was because I couldnt get into online or DVD guitar lessons which I attempted for several months. Moreover, Im old school when it comes down to music lessons, due to learning the cello through classroom instructor- based lessons from elementary to High School, along with private lessons thereafter. With that being said I can say Ive made one of the best decisions towards enhancing my playing on the guitar by taking lessons with Gregg. When I first started taking lessons from Gregg, he provided an individual plan for me to help with learning scales, technique exercises, licks, and improvisation. He showed me how to make my own melodies on the guitar by using scale/chord relations. He provided the theory behind using various chords with scales which I did not gain from DVD or online guitar learning. He also broke down how much time I should spend on practicing the guitar to get where I want to be. He is very encouraging and will provide feedback to you which will enable you to improve in certain areas. I would like to recommend Gregg for beginner to intermediate players, as well as advanced players who are preparing for gigs. In addition, Gregg cannot practice for you, he can only provide lessons. I try to practice from 30 minutes to 2 hours a day depending on my daily schedule. Gregg is a great teacher, I am already playing with others (bassist and drummer) and using the skills he taught me to improvise my playing.
I was with Kim for 4 years, and I can honestly say that she made learning double bass easy, as well as fun. There was never a dull lesson, and she always motivated me to continue to practice and further my skills in the instrument. She worked on my school orchestra music, helping myself to perfect it, and also would teach me other techniques/exercises alongside. Honestly, working with Kim for as long as I did was a great experience, and I've become a better player because of all her hard work. She is truly dedicated, and loves playing/teaching double bass.
Finding a good guitar and bass tutor can be pretty fraught. Anyone who knows a few scales can potentially set up shop. I had the misfortune of visiting several such "instructors." Unlike most of the folks on craigslist, Morgan is a true teacher. He has deep musical knowledge that spans genres and play styles, and will adapt his lessons to the interests of the student. But more importantly, he's just a great person - kind, patient, and passionate about music. Over 2 years of lessons, Morgan helped me progress from simple pop songs to Jazz comps, and even indulged my interest in kooky prog metal rhythms. The lessons were fun, spontaneous, and challenging. Bonus: Morgan is an experienced guitar tech with a fully outfitted shop in his house. I cannot overstate how convenient it is to be able to get your instrument fixed in the same location where you take your lessons. Virtually no one else in the area can provide this dual service. In summary: I wouldn't write such a long review if he wasn't the real deal. I left each lesson with a smile on my face and I saw the same in every other student that walked out the door before my timeslot. If you want to learn and actually have fun doing it, give this guy a call.
I have turned lessons with some kids into 6-8 year long mentoring relationships. Some have moved onto musics schools and Universities. I work with people from ages 7-61 currently. I have a 100% success rate with my students, but only when time and practice is regimented by the student . Studying and playing music for 30 years has taught me a lot. I base my lesson plans entirely ontbe individual I am working with . No 2 students of mine ever share the same lesson plan , unless requested by those individuals. Most of what I teach I learned by what “not to do” I have found that learning from past mistakes, in all fields of music, had made me very aware of what people should not do as well as areas of focus and strength.
I provide all levels of bass instrument instructions and tutoring in music theory, harmony, and sight singing proven track records.
Frankey has been the drummer for our church over the last seven years. He has matured into a very gifted drummer. He is reliable, conscientious, professional, and a great musician.
Tom comes to our home for a weekly music class with my one year-old. He plays the acoustic guitar and sings to her, teaches her about the various notes/music sounds and brings kid-friendly instruments for her to explore such as an egg shaker and tambourine (an age appropriate "lesson"). Tom is great with her and she loves the time with him - its clear that he loves kids. We're looking forward to these weekly lessons as she grows and her musical sensibilities develop!
I'm not a professional guitar or bass instructor but have been playing music since 1977. I have been playing in bands on and off for about 26 years. I currently play in a local rock and roll roots music band. For those interested, I would be happy to teach basic chords on guitar and blues scales on bass, for example.
After two lessons, I feel very encouraged that this was the right move. Rob is easy-going, a good listener, and focused on teaching me to *actually play*. He deals with technique and theory, but is not rigid or dogmatic about it. I highly recommend him.
Do you want to play music? I accept students of all levels and all styles on guitar or bass, acoustic or electric. With a degree in classical guitar and experience playing in rock and jazz bands, I have the patience and skills to help you reach your goals whether they be playing on the sofa or the big stage. It's never too early or too late to begin to learn or to improve your playing!
We are so very pleased with Mr. Brown. He's just an excellent teacher. My oldest daughter has shown an unbelievable improvement since she started taking bass lessons with him. My youngest son just started taking guitar lessons with him as well and even though he's not very talented, he is also making progress. I couldn't believe it, but now I believe it! I highly recommend Mr. Brown. He's very flexible, professional, and a great teacher. We can't wait to have out third kid for him.
Starting from scratch I was able to learn the basics and more involved in playing the bass guitar. Dwight remained very helpful, encouraging, and most importantly patient. Dwight always pushed me to be confident In myself and kept the lessons fresh. He was an excellent instructor for all ages and all levels of those interested in music. I recommend to all, you will be pleased by his professionalism and his desire for you to learn.
I offer in-home instructions on the double bass and bass guitar to all levels of experience and all ages.
I will teach you on how to play bass. I have 5-7 years of experience, so it's simple you will learn quick.
I started playing guitar at age nine and have played professionally for the past twelve years. For the past six years, I have played guitar and bass for the band Drop Electric and have played an array of styles. Music should be a part of everyone's life, and it is never too late to learn! Guitar and bass lessons are offered.
I was playing bass in a live gig at a lakeside resort a couple months ago when, during a break, Michael Calve approached me asking if he could sit in and also borrow my instrument. Not knowing anything about him, my first thought was, this guy is pretty confident, so should I trust him? Michael got the OK from the leader and was very impressive on the 5-string bass and able to hold down a solid and consistent meter in several genres, in some cases playing to never-before-heard original music. I would definitely hire Michael as my own coach and highly recommend him as an instructor, based only on the half hour that I witnessed that night of a very mature and adaptable musician.
I teach students anywhere from complete beginner to advanced students looking to broaden their musical horizons. I work with students to develop skills ranging from basic and advanced music theory to songwriting and improvisational skills.
I provide a healthy and fun mix of tactile learning and music theory to help students understand their instrument better so they can enjoy it longer. I cater to students from beginners to adults and everything in between. I do guitar and bass guitar.
I have been taking my daughter to The Music Loft for piano lessons since they opened in October 2010. This is a "different" kind of music store. It is all about teaching students with all else taking a back seat. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating when schedules need adjusting. Often I spend the whole 30 minutes waiting for my daughter conversing with Jason in a very relaxed atmosphere. I'm contemplating starting lessons here myself later this year
