I was in search of someone to update my outdated resume. Through Thumbtack I was contacted by 5 different writers that gave me quotes for the work. Tina took the time to call me which had a huge impact on my decision to choose Wise Writers to write my resume. The entire process took a total of 4 days, the first draft was sent to me on the day it was promised, we made a few changes and the final copy and cover letter were completed the next day. I was impressed by the personal contact, professional services, reasonable cost, and quality of the documents that I received. Thank you for your outstanding work. Sincerely, Michael D. Hubert

Does the thought of writing your own bio for your website or Linkedin make you panic? I know I did. That's why I've hired Lisa. In fact, I've hired Lisa more than once to write my bio. I'm continually amazed at how she's been able to summarize my strengths, talents and personality, by asking some simple questions. She took my answers, and turned them into something that I read and thought "wow, is that really me"? (and she made it FUN to work with her!) Whether she's writing an article, a profile or whatever else, I enjoy being the reader of her writing.

Ah, where do I begin? Joe is absolutely one of the best writers I have ever worked with. Period. When we worked together (mostly at the late, great Gardner Advertising, among others), we often wore each other‘s hats. By that I mean that Joe is extremely visual in his thinking, and very open to copy ideas from the design person. It was not uncommon for him to come up with the visual idea and for me to supply the headline. We both loved this arrangement, and I think we were all the better for it. In past years I have really missed working with Joe, but I still hold out hope that we will work together again. Needless to say, I think he is one of the best and most fertile minds I have known, and I miss those days beyond words. They were the best times of my life. i wish him nothing but success in his concepting, writing and guitar playing. Mike Whitney

Steve Sanborn is a gifted writer. He can take a complicated, technical subject and bring clarity to the reader in a way that few can do. My contact with Steve was through LifeFlight Eagle (LFE) and also the Missouri Emergency Medical Services Association (MEMSA). In both organizations he created original content for membership promotion as well as other informational documents. And in both organizations, he produced newsletters that were widely distributed. His writing style was engaging and informative. Deadlines were met and a quality product was produced. I have no hesitancy in endorsing Steve as a talented, skillful writer. I can assure others, you will not be disappointed if he writes for you.

As a copyeditor, Erin Griggs is thorough and possessed of a discerning eye, catching those things that it’s all too easy for a writer to miss once they’ve lived with a manuscript for a considerable amount of time. As a content reader, she excels, bringing a broad base of academic knowledge, an understanding of genre conventions, and ability to frame story questions with sensitivity, never imposing personal preference on an author’s intent or vision. How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

          • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
          • Strong writing skills.
          • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
          • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
          • Expertise in your target area.
          • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

          • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
          • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
          • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
          • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
