Talk about the perfect catering service.....Terrace Catering is the one. Pamela catered our wedding long distance over the phone and every detail was followed perfectly the night of our wedding.. The hors d'oeuvre were the beginning of a dinner to die for. We started with Pamela's home made hummus the best I have ever eaten. Many of our guests felt the same way. The orange mandarin chicken roll ups were delicious. Our dinner coarse was fantastic, prepared to perfection followed by desserts that were to die for. I highly recommend the stuffed strawberries and caramel pecan cheese cake pie. Pamela's husband Mark was our bartender. Talk about a stress free event, thanks to them we were able to relax and enjoy our guests while they did the set up, serving and clean up for all our food and drink. They were on time, easy to work with down to earth and provided service above and beyond what you would expect. They pay attention to all details and are so reasonably priced. They made our wedding even more special. Great people that give you 110% to make sure your event is perfect. I highly recommend Terrace Catering They are a class act that will not disappoint you .

We hired Kirby for day of coordination, and I am so thankful that we had her. Miranda, Kirby, and I had met before and created a timeline, and I was able to ask many questions, email them both, and depend on them to confirm details of the wedding with all the vendors. The wedding day was rainy, and that made everything much more difficult for Kirby. But she helped set up the rain back up plan for the ceremony, listened to what I wanted, worked closely with the photographer, diverted questions, and helped make sure that everything went smoothly despite nothing going like our original plan. She did all that- plus much more that I probably don't even realize, as the bride, she kept me pretty well out of it so I could enjoy my special day. We couldn't have done it without her.

Leanne was professional in all our dealings. She handled delivery, set-up, and take-down for our event when all others had extra costs for the service. Her cupcakes for our wedding reception were out of this world and we received NUMEROUS compliments on their flavor. Would use her again in a heartbeat if I needed to. Highly recommend her!!

Mary catered our wedding in Topeka, Kansas in February 2014. Mary was very professional to work with, paid attention to detail, and executed our vision for antipasto-style hors d'oeuvres with a beautiful presentation. We received many compliments from wedding guests on the taste and quality of the food. Mary is a hard worker, and was constantly refreshing our buffet serving dishes. Additionally, Mary's catering costs were extremely reasonable. I would recommend Malaura Catering without reservation for any type of event.

They took my vision for my wedding reception with vegetarians and carnivores and and a true ethnic tapestry and made it into a wonderful celebration that all could enjoy. People came up and told us how much they love the food. The service was excellent and we could not have asked for a better experience.

In short our every experience with Blind Box has been positive! Joe and his crew catered our daughters wedding in July 2016 - the response from all in attendance was 'wow, great job' on the food selection and service provided. The 'Jucy Lucy' sandwich has easily become a favorite sandwich...anywhere!

We asked Craig to cater our wedding because sharing a locally sourced, delicious meal with our loved ones was a top priority for our celebration. We love our Kansas City local food movement, and Craig is at the heart of it. He came highly recommended to us, and we knew right away that we'd made a great choice. We loved working with Craig, and our wedding meal was indeed a highlight of our day! Craig worked with us to design an abundant menu that was within our budget. Our outdoor barn wedding aimed to blend elegance with down home comfort, and we wanted the meal to be an experience that connected our guests with one another. Despite spatial challenges with our venue, Craig found creative solutions and customized a style of service to do just that. Craig worked with our favorite farmers to source vegetables, fruit, and meat that we knew were sustainably produced with great care. The appetizers and main courses expressed and enhanced the variety, beauty and flavor of our region. Then Craig recreated and served up our leftovers with late night snacks that surprised and delighted our guests. They still rave about the wedding food! Working with Craig was a pleasure; he was responsive and flexible, engaging us in the creative process and accommodating our preferences throughout the process. We truly appreciate Craig's stewardship of our local food system, and his keen talent to create an absolutely delicious meal. Thanks for helping us enjoy a unique and unforgettable celebration!

I have experience with Catering on Locke multiple times. He has catered our New Years Eve Party twice, I had him do my wife's 40th birthday party and all the food especially the brisket was amazing. The last time I had experience his catering was at a wedding where the bride and groom had used his service and again the food was very good. I am looking forward to the next event I have where I can use Catering on Locke.

I loved having Ellen cater my daughter's bridal shower and provide food at the wedding. At both events our quests gave many favorable comments on the delicious food. I was impressed on how everything was displayed. Ellen organized and took care of every detail, right down to the color coordinated straws. I would recommend Ellen for any catering event. Blind Box catered an office job at my work and I was blown away by their food so I contacted them about catering my wedding too.....I dealt with Jennifer and was really impressed - she helped me with everything - rentals, finding a good DJ and florist...plus every time I called or emailed, I got a quick response back. Our wedding was 3 weeks ago and I couldn't be happier... Their staff made everything perfect and the food looked - and tasted - amazing! I can't rave enough about the job they did!

I don't have enough words to describe the wonderful food we enjoyed at my daughter's wedding. We knew from our tasting the food was fabulous but would it be that way for so many people? The answer is YES! Regan and Aaron knocked it out of the park. From our initial contact, to our tasting and finally the wedding day Regan was a delight to work with. She was always quick to reply to our emails and no question seemed silly to her. Regan went above and beyond by helping our venue find a substitute wine when one we had chosen was not available. The venue was providing the liquor but Regan stepped in to make things right. If you want a stress free wedding day (or any special occasion) you should have Culinaria cater. You won't regret it!

            Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good caterer?

Reviews, interviews and menu tastings will help you find the right catering choice for your big day. Start by screening possible wedding caterers based on past reviews. If a caterer you are interested in has a review that concerns you, ask them about it; how they respond will be very telling. Next, ask about their availability for your wedding date.

If the wedding caterer is available on your date, it’s time to talk about menus and prices. Be clear about what your maximum budget is find out what choices this will allow you. Caterers may custom-create a menu for your event, or they may have menu templates within different price ranges that can guide your decision. A clear budget gives the caterer clear parameters within which to work and offer creative suggestions. Schedule a menu tasting to confirm you love your wedding menu. Once you have a menu and date, and have paid a deposit to reserve the caterer’s services, confirm additional details including when the food will be delivered to the site, what kind of service will be provided, how many servers will be onsite and for how long, and who is responsible for setup and cleanup. The more specific your contract, the fewer worries you’ll have on your wedding day. Get more smart hiring tips here.

Do you tip a wedding caterer?

Tipping 15 percent to 20 percent on a $3,000 catering bill can feel daunting — especially in light of all the other costs of throwing a wedding — but tipping your wedding caterer is standard practice. Be sure to ask your caterer about their specific policies. Many catering companies include gratuity as a line item on their bill. If tipping is not automatically included in your total, a good approach is to tip all the people involved the day of the event rather than paying one lump sum to the catering company. For each server and bartender, you can tip $20-$50, depending on how long they were onsite and whether they did exceptional work. You can also tip the chef; experts suggest $50. It’s also a good idea to tip the catering manager, the point-of-contact person who keeps the catering service running smoothly the day of your wedding, ensures all the food looks beautiful and is plentiful, and resolves any mishaps. Industry pros recommend tipping the catering manager $100-$200. If gratuity is not included and you’re tipping individuals, set aside $200-$500 in cash to be safe.

How much does wedding catering cost per person?

Wedding catering costs will always vary based on the number of guests you’re inviting, the menu you want to serve, and the way the food will be served to your guests. As you interview wedding catering companies, you’ll be presented with a cost per person for various menus. On the low end, wedding catering may cost approximately $15-$18 per person. This would include prepared food only, with no setup or service of any kind. The starting price for a simple buffet meal with minimal service typically averages $22 per person. Opting for the same menu with all organic ingredients could raise your costs to about $33 per person. A moderately upscale menu (finer ingredients, more elaborate presentation) could range from $24 to $34 per person. High-end wedding catering cost truly has no limit. Lobster, filet mignon, specialty seafood, organic ingredients — menu choices like these can boost your cost per person up to $150 and more.

What should you look for in a caterer?

A delicious meal is a critical element of a successful wedding, with happy guests fondly remembering your fabulous wedding food. The right caterer for you will be:

            • Available: Even the best caterer is no good if they aren’t available on your wedding date. Ask early before you get your heart set on someone.
            • Affordable for you: Find a caterer that you can afford. Having a spending plan ahead of time will mean you won’t overspend on food.
            • A good personality fit: Wedding planning is stressful, so work with someone that you can get along with and communicate with easily.
            • Experienced and recommended: Ensure the company has a proven track record with events of your size and the references to back it up.
            • Transparent about money: Steer clear of shady pricing. Find a caterer who is very clear about costs and is happy to talk you through budgets and pricing options.
            • Transparent about food: Find someone who is clear about where they source their food from and where it is prepared.

How do you serve food at a wedding?

Food service at your wedding will affect your catering costs and influence the atmosphere of the reception. Buffet style is more informal; plated meals are a bit fancier; family style encourages sharing. Read about the different food service styles to select your preferred wedding catering choice.

            • Buffet: Caterers can drop off prepared foods for a DIY and budget-friendly buffet option where you set everything up and food is entirely self-service. For a fuller-service buffet, the caterers set up food, oversee the buffet throughout the event, and clean up afterwards. For food only, prices per person might average $16-$18, while a service buffet may start around $20-$22 per person. Adding food stations can increase per-person costs by at least $3-$5.
            • Family style: Servers bring large platters of food to guest tables in courses. It’s less formal (and less expensive) than a plated meal, but more formal and higher-cost than a buffet. You’ll need large tables to accommodate the platters, so plan accordingly when renting furniture for the event.
            • Plated: A plated event is a formal dining experience; waitstaff serve your seated guests for each course, fill their drinks, and attend to them throughout the dinner. A plated dinner is typically the most expensive option for both food and service.
            • Food trucks: Similar to buffets, with food trucks your guests get their own food and bring it to their table. A food truck gives a relaxed and playful vibe to your reception.
            • Cocktail reception: If you don’t want a formal seated dinner, you can opt for a wide assortment of passed appetizers at an extended cocktail hour reception.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
