When looking for a photographer you don't want to just pick someone who is good at taking pictures. You want someone who captures relationship, meaning, memories, and emotions. I often stare at my wall of photos and marvel at my sweet daughter and husband. Kevin has truly captured the magic of our family together and the photos I have will be cherished for a lifetime. I am so thankful I have found kevin as our photographer! I definitely recommend Kevin Keith photography!

Ethics in business, expertise, professionalism, and a highly talented, discerning eye. These are all very important to me when having music videos, photography, marketing/publicity materials done for The Band Briar, William Peck provides excellence in these areas, as well as being able to understand the values specific to the individual client. I highly recommend MetaphorMedia.

From the beginning of meeting David he was extremely accommodating, easy to work with, not to mention talented! He puts his clients first which proves by his simple ask of "where's convenient for you to meet up?" From our initial meeting, David was very professional and both my fiance and I felt extremely comfortable around him. His welcoming demeanor makes for a comfortable photo shoot for both engagement photos and our wedding photos! He has a way of being stealthy and silent to capture real moments that you had no clue he was able to even get, along with speaking up and making people comfortable when necessary such as around kids or people who may be shy when taking photos. I love how David truly loves what he does, and feels like a part of your family or friend on your day- all of our friends and family loved him and his crew of videographers/photographers. We were blown away by our pictures when we got them! It was rainy on our wedding day during our time to take pictures so David thought of some creative alternatives and got some other wonderful photos as a back up! For them being a backup, we couldn't have asked for anything better when we got our photos back! We will certainly use David again for family photos and any other photos in the future!

I hired Joshua for my wedding May 2015 without ever meeting him. His prices were right and it came with everything I wanted and more. I was beyond impressed with him!!!! Very professional and friendly. He worked along side my photographers very well all day long. He came in the morning for getting ready and he stayed with us all hours of the day until we got in our get away car (12 hours !!) His work is awesome! I just received my wedding highlight video, perfect length 10 min and I was so impressed he added our special songs! He really captured the whole day and all the emotions and fun that went along with it! I got to re-live the whole day watching that film! We could not be any happier!! :):)

Libby captures the pure joy and excitement of family life. We have had several sessions with her over the years, documenting our lives before and with children, and in each instance she is able to make everyone feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. Libby radiates warmth and is so fun to be around!

Matt was able to take the construction specific information we gave him and convert it a verbal and video presentation that really made a connection to our customer base. The wow factor of the video captured their interest and gave them a much better idea of the work we do and the issues we could take care of for them. His coaching for the verbal information and our social media campaign was very helpful in reaching our target audience.

We hired videographers from dXd Publications to help us (another video production company) to record a large multi track conference. There were a few issues the first day but those were addressed and fixed for the last two days of recording. It was a pleasure to work with Leonard McKinzy and his crew. They were prompt and on time. I would hire again if I have work in the location.

We enjoyed working with Jeff! He was very responsive and he walked us through all the steps of the video-making process (as we were not sure how to go about it). The crew Jeff sent out to us was very timely and we shot our entire video in the allotted time. Jeff was very professional at all times and provided great suggestions for creativity additions to our video.

Although this is showing as a wedding event, it was a corporate event. My organized hired Chris to capture testimonial footage of a number of people we helped to get jobs in technology. We went to multiple job sites throughout the day, moving quickly to capture as much footage (interviews and b-roll) for each of 4 employers, covering 12 interviews. Chris has great equipment and was able to adapt quickly to a lot of environments -- none of which really were ideal for a video shoot in terms of lighting, etc. Chris had the equipment to make it happen! Our favorite thing -- Chris was awesome! Prior to the event, he was responsive and flexible. During the day, he was flexible and unruffled by the unknown of what each customer site would afford, and he interfaced perfectly with everyone involved. He was fun to spend time with -- had good suggestions -- and was an all-around joy! We will gladly use him again for our next project!!

Jahi is definitely one if the most professional creative talents I've had the honor of learning, shooting, and working for during his time in Philadelphia at Intricate Photography Studio. I admire his dedication to the art and business of photography as much as his flare to make his clients very comfortable in any environment. Trust your portrait experience will be full of smiles, accompanied with a product quality that will never disappoint your referrals. Definitely a 5 star photographer.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
