Our book club used Malaura Catering as an alternative to finding a restaurant with a private room for our Holiday gathering. Having our dinner and meeting in a members home was perfect, and having Mary Cobb deliver a delicious, ready-to-serve dinner took pressure off the hostess. Mary offered a wide menu of options and was open to our special requests as well (nut allergy). We are already planning to use her again!

Mary catered our wedding in Topeka, Kansas in February 2014. Mary was very professional to work with, paid attention to detail, and executed our vision for antipasto-style hors d'oeuvres with a beautiful presentation. We received many compliments from wedding guests on the taste and quality of the food. Mary is a hard worker, and was constantly refreshing our buffet serving dishes. Additionally, Mary's catering costs were extremely reasonable. I would recommend Malaura Catering without reservation for any type of event.

We had a very small budget for the food for our wedding. I found Malaura Catering online and the price seemed too good to be true, and it was! We had to reschedule our first tasting due to weather, so when we finally got a chance to meet with Mary I decided to look past the fact that her child was running around taking snacks from the food she had prepared for our tasting. The food was good, so we decided to hire her as our wedding caterer. At that point we planned to invite 300 people, and Mary said she had no problem handling a wedding that size. As the planning process went on we did change our contract a bit and she was very accommodating. We ended up with a contract to serve 200 guests Italian nachos as an appetizer, salad, pasta bar, mixed vegetables, and a roll. Then at 9:30 she would put out some rolls with meat and cheese if people needed a snack. We also had paid for her to cut the cake, but our baker wanted to do it to make sure it was done right. Mary and I made a verbal agreement that instead of cutting the cake she would buss tables and collect silverware. We had a large amount of vegetarians coming to the wedding so a pasta bar where they could pick sounded like a brilliant idea. Instead a large portion of our guests did not get a meal at all. Don't get me wrong the guest that got food said it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. So here is the breakdown of what we actually got. We took in 300 plates and came home with 132 unused. That tells us that 168 people took a plate. We sat 8 people per table and the Alfredo sauce ran out by table 10. At most 80 people got the meatless white sauce. (Remember we tried to care for our vegetarian guests) By table 19 the pasta was gone, guests could pickup some salad, a roll to dip in meat sauce, and cold coliflower. Then table 25 told table 26 "don't bother" We paid for all 200 guests to have options and only 80 were served that way. We paid for 200 guests to have pasta dinner, and only 112 got a real meal. Mary did bring out the snacks an hour early, unfortunately the 50 guests that didn't get food had already left to go eat, and the cheese was already starting to turn by the time people were ready for a snack. I ended my night wiping crumbs off the kitchen counters in my wedding dress, as she left extra platters of sandwiches sitting out uncovered in the kitchen of the hall. I'm not sure who she checked out with before leaving, but it wasn't anyone in the wedding party. A follow up email with Mary explained that "we had hearty eaters" and "the alfreado is always the first to run out" as the response to why so many of my guests did not get food. She also threw in a dig about how she bussed some tables for us that wasn't in the contract. Not only was I dissatisfied with the way things went the night of the wedding, but am appalled that she doesn't even care enough to apologize for her miscalculation. Hopefully this review can save another bride the embarrassment of having people continually joke about how "only feeding half your guests is a great way to save money on a wedding!"
