Kimberli taught my son piano for 2-1/2 years. He looked forward to every lesson! She had a well-thought out plan every week and kept him engaged. While he learned lessons from a piano book, Kimberli always let him pick a popular song of his own choosing. She would find the music according to his abilities and help him with it. My son needed help with his confidence and Kimberli continually brought that out in him. She makes lessons fun and her students really relate to her!
I have taken fiddle lessons from David during the past few months. He is a patient teacher with an encyclopedic knowledge of traditional Irish and American folk music and comfortable teaching style.
Mr. Chun taught my six year daughter violin. Very professional and patient. He is dedicated to what he is doing.
Sakinah is a great teacher. She is patient and caring, which are huge qualities when learning violin. Very flexible with scheduling too.
I could not be happier with my sons teacher, Elizabeth Morton. She exhibits great patience and enjoyment while working with my son, who began learning the piano with her at age 5. She is very encouraging and sets up achievable weekly goals. I love the ability to have her come to our home and teach, as a working parent this makes life a little simpler. Elizabeth is a talented teacher, she takes the time to make learning fun.
My daughter started playing piano at age 8 is about to turn 18. She has been taking piano lessons with Cathan for the past five years and it has been a completely amazing experience! Cathan is a wonderful person who truly cares about her students. She has not only been an excellent teacher, but also someone my daughter truly admires and enjoys being with every week. In her lessons, she has inspired my daughter and given her a deeper and richer experience by helping her understand the time periods that the music was written in, who the composers were and the story they were telling with their music. Cathan has a way of integrating all of this effortlessly during her lessons and it has helped my daughter develop into a more mature pianist. When she plays now, her music if full of emotion and depth--it is so much fun to listen to her play. The relationship she has developed with Cathan over the years has given her a greater confidence in all areas of her life and education. There were times when my daughter struggled--Cathan patiently walked her through those times and found new ways to motivate and inspire her, and for that we are truly grateful. It has been a joy to work with Cathan--she is a gifted teacher and an exceptional human being.
I have taken a few lessons with Claudia, most recently being this year. These lessons were mostly a refresher course - I'd played for a few years growing up and wanted to get back into it. Claudia was tremendously helpful. With her guidence, I learned how to hold and play the violin. We mostly covered basics such as proper fingering, pizzicato, and bow arm. She even helped me transcribe a favorite Andrew Bird song. I have been watching Claudia play violin for years and can attest to her talent. Claudia is also patient and encouraging. I would recommend her as a teacher for anyone who is starting out or has experience and wants to hone and improve their skill.
As a beginner, I was nervous to go into a professional lesson, but jake was very perceptive and never made me feel like an inferior. Instead, I got the teaching I needed for my experience level and had a great afternoon!
My daughter started learning from Alla from the beginning about 2 years ago at the age of 7. Alla comes from a traditional Russian background and knows her stuff. If you are looking for Suzuki method, she is not the teacher for you. She teaches according to how she was taught and believes is correct and while I may not have understood her methods, I have learned to trust them and trust her judgment. For example, she didn't let my daughter touch the bow for months, and even when she did, she didn't allow her to do so unsupervised by her. She focused on the left hand and didn't use tape to learn where the notes are. I felt like some things were hammered for a while and then my daughter would take off on them. When we meet up with an older cousin and she sees where my daughter is after 2 years, she says, "Wow. I didn't do that for a long time." One thing about Alla if you are considering her as a teacher is that she is sometimes gone because she performs around the world. That means there are gaps in teaching throughout the year...usually in the summer. I don't mind this as it gives us a break and also because she stays fresh as a violinist. She is also readily available on Skype to give lessons when she is a away and while this sounds strange to us uninformed folks, she is remarkably able to correct and teach even online. While Alla expects excellence, she is very patient and understands that kids are kids. She has stuck through and motivated my daughter when it got tough. She's very warm and caring...but she does expect you to do things the way she taught you! Alla is very generous and giving. She even came with us to Dan Lawrence Strings in Lee's Summit to pick out an amazing violin that I know we wouldn't have gotten without her there. One thing I would like more of are recitals. We've had 2 over the past 2 years. However, for now, I'm glad for the foundation my daughter is getting and trust there will be more opportunities to perform in the future. Kansas City is lucky to have Alla here as a violin teacher and recognized performer and I hope you will hire her so that she'll have reason to stick around!
I am a young violinist, passionate about music and teaching. I love what I do, and I can't wait to share my love for music and learning with you!
My goal is to help students find the fun and passion in learning music. I help students understand that music is an incredible way of expressing themselves. Having been classically trained, I believe that fundamentals and technical skills need to be taught and are very important for students to learn and grow. Although, having played fiddle, guitar, mandolin, singing and yodeling as a professional performance musician, I also feel that it is important to show them how to get excited about playing music through the interests of their own heart. I truly believe in learning the skill of listening. Reading is key and is the building block needed to allow the player to be proficient, but my students also learn to find the freedom in music. I believe in teaching ear listening and improvisational skills, along with reading notated music. More often than not, this very important skill is not taught and ignored. This type of training opens the box from confinement, rules and restrictions to being a truly free musician. Students will reach their highest potential by learning music in a way that is fun and applicable to their lives. What is your favorite song? What song do you like singing? Let's learn how to play it! Students can take what they learn and apply it in a more exciting way that keeps them interested and passionate about music. They learn how to express themselves in a musical, creative way.
I love the violin and I love teaching it! I love everyone I work with and sharing time and a passion.
Treble Strings is currently accepting beginning students, ages 3 and up. Adults are welcome. I have played the violin for over twenty years in ensembles of various sizes, and have about four years of tutoring experience. I believe that students are most successful when they can learn in a relaxed and encouraging environment. Lessons start at $20 per half hour. I also offer family discounts for multiple students in the same household. I will also drive to your home for an additional fee. The first lesson is free with no obligation. My curriculum is personalized for each of my students, allowing them to improve their skills or learn new ones while playing music that they enjoy.
I have a masters degree in music performance and I have been teaching music lessons on piano, violin and French horn for three years.
I have a lot of experience with music and have been playing violin for almost 9 years. Lessons will be taught with the student's interests in mind. Affordability and flexibility are a standout.
