Communications with the ofiice (Angela) was fantastic - they work long hours! Free bid was helpful. Rodrigo replaced the vent boots & flashings at a very reasonable price. Both Angela & Rodrigo went above & beyond to forward before & after pictures of each vent for insurance purposes.

Donovan and his son installed a new furnace and dryer vent for us. They did a great job letting me know if they were running a few minutes late. His quote was fair and he did the work when he said he would do it and in the amount of time that he said it would take. Very happy with the overall experience.

Mark did a great job replacing my kitchen faucet, installing a vent pipe on my water heater and clearing a back-up in my drain line. He was friendly, punctual and his pricing was very reasonable. Mark will definitely be added to my contact list for other home projects!

We recently had the experience of working with David Marsh of Noble General Contracting. From the first time we met him, we were impressed with how friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable he was. He climbed up on our roof to check for hail damage. Then he offered to examine it again when the insurance adjuster came to our house to review the damage to our roof, gutters, outside paint, and inside ceiling damage. David ensured that the entire repair process was smooth and efficient. If we had any questions, all we had to do was call or e-mail him, and his response was quick. We always knew what the next step in the process would be, and he submitted the necessary paperwork to our insurance company in a timely manner. Working with David could be compared to having a trusted and honest friend who is proficient at home repairs. He knows his stuff! Plus all work areas were tidied up at the end of each day, and probably cleaner than the way he’d found them. We would highly recommend him to anyone who wants a skillful, personable, yet professional contractor.

Luna roofing and its owner Armin Luna did three projects for me. A difficult roof tear down and replacement, a nasty soffit tear down with vinyl replacement and a fair amount of rotted wood replacement. Decking and 1x4 in. Slats on the roof and all new facia. Wrapped the facia with metal and put new 6in. Gutters and downspouts. I give them right at 5 stars because it was done in a professional and timely manner. Clean up to date was nominal yet Mr. Luna assured me it would be resolved. He has done all he promised so far. I'm am satisfied.

Kerry met with our insurance adjuster one week, and we were getting the roof installed about 10 days later. The crew did a great job removing and replacing the shingles...kept debris all picked up as well. We have a simple roof, so only took one day for it to be done.

Their response time was great. I had a lot of questions and they were answered promptly and with a lot of knowledge. The gutters look great and I was impressed with how well they cleaned up after the job was completed. Had a few quotes from other installers and feel like I got the best gutters for the best price. 😊

Excellent job. Price was very reasonable. Very professional and personal. 5+ stars. I am definitely using builders direct on my other house and am recommending them for any roofing or siding job you might have. I had 4 other contractors bid my roof and builders direct was head and shoulders above all on price, products used, service and most importantly when they were done it looked great.

Ben did a few odd jobs for me, he cleaned my basement, repaired the flashing on the roof skylight, weeding & cutting small trees, hedge trimming, painting the back yard fence. his work was good and on time and advice invaluable. What impressed me most was he came to work on the second day even though he was ill. I do recommend him and would rehire him any time going forward.

I have been needing my dryer vented to the outside for years. I had looked up businesses over the years but once I looked them up and checked them out there was always something not quite right. I finally decided I would try Thumbtack and am I glad I did. I called them on Thursday 4/13/2017 and immediately Dan Millman owner of All Clear Dryer Vent Cleaning called me. He came over and assessed my project and assured me he could do the job and would be available on Friday 4/14/2017. Dan was very professional, respectful and extremely knowledgeable of his business. He arrived on time, explained everything he would be doing and went to work. He installed 30' dryer vent run in my basement to new exit on back of my house. He installed exterior dryer vent cloivd cage on the back side of the house and installed 4" transition . All went well. He worked non-stop and did a fantastic job. Dan cleaned up after he was done and gave me a tour and explained all that was completed and asked if I had any questions. I was very pleased with the job Dan did. I would defitinely hire Dan again and assured him I would recommend him to all my family, friends and neighbors.

Clay installed a flat roof on my carport and I couldn't be happier with the installation. They were polite, punctual, friendly, and above all they knew what they were doing. An issue arose early in the project (as sometimes happens ... not all projects are picture-perfect) but it was handled with courtesy, speed, and I never felt as though it was going to require a long-term solution or become an issue for me, they handled it with professionalism. I had some items that I was going to perform myself that involved the roof installation and they were happy to accommodate my needs and when finished (at the time promised and, frankly, faster than I thought possible) they cleaned up all trash and materials leaving me with a painless, fairly priced new carport roof. When I need the rest of the house re-roofed, I'll contact Nations Roofing and Construction immediately and exclusively.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
