Great people that we felt comfortable leaving alone in our house to work when we ran errands who did a great job and every night ensured the area was cleaned up. We had carpet removed and replaced with tile, one piece fiberglass shower replaced with an onyx shower (included moving pipes), painting and everything else to make it look nice!

Great job job done by this company. The work was done quickly, efficiently, and I appreciated the politeness of everyone I came in contact with. I would encourage the use of M&R if you want an honest, quality, completed project. (Two bathrooms floors tiled, new commodes, light fixtures and a pedestal sink replaced, and all old fixtures hauled away!) John & Connie D.

Eddy and his crew were very good. I cannot say enough good things about the workmanship and the good attitude of Eddy and his crew. I had a few communication problems at times, but they worked very hard to be sure that I was satisfied with their services. I had other contractors in to finish other work after the floors were done, and the contractors made very good comments about the tile work. My floors are beautiful and I'm happy I chose BR Silva Construction LLC.

We had hardwood installed and the current hardwood sanded and stained to match the new. Couldn't be more impressed with the result, I could not even tell where the old flooring ended and the new began!

Being able to choose our flooring options in our own home worked very well for us. I have now replaced carpet, tile, or laminate in 3 different homes and this was by far the best experience as well as the best price. Highly highly recommend.

I have to start this review by saying that we've hired people off of thumbtack probably dozens of times. We are typically pretty happy but Fuad and his team completely blew us away with how great they were. They took the time to make sure everything was absolutely perfect and done correctly, all while making sure they were courteous to my family while working in the house. We loved the work they did on our tile floors so much that we hired them to do (4) more projects in our house! I'm absolutely blown away by their professionalism and how hard they work. As you know, when you hire most contractors, they don't show up a lot or show up late. They showed up on time every single day and worked hard for as long as we would let them. I cannot stress how highly I recommend this crew. We have lived in four different houses and have done DOZENS of different projects, and I have never had a contractor I've liked more than this team. If you have the opportunity to hire them, I would before someone else does and books them for a few months to completely renovate their house after seeing their work....as we are doing haha.

I have used L.J. Fanning for over 10 years. He has done almost all of the repairs on my home and my rental property. His work is exceptional and he is 100% trustworthy. He is a perfectionist who is highly talented in any and all repairs/improvements. There has not been one project he has been unable to take on and complete with total satisfaction. He is such an excellent "handyman"/repairman that I would be lost without him. I have referred him to Numerous friends and they have all "fallen in love" with him. From tiling, to concrete work, to electrical and plumbing.....L.J. can do it all! Whatever your remodeling/repair need, he is your man! Unlike many "handymen", L.J. is always on time and completes the job when he tells you it will be done. You will Never go wrong by using his services.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install tile?

Tile installation costs vary widely depending on the tiles you choose, where you want them installed, and what kind of demolition and surface preparation you need to have done. The national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The more tiles that need to be cut by hand and laid on the surface, the higher the total cost. Tile installation professionals can handle many different types of stone, ceramic and porcelain tiles, applying them in kitchens, bathrooms, hallways and entranceways. They can create anything from artistic mosaic backsplashes in your kitchen to modern shower enclosures to rustic patios in your backyard. Tile installation professions often can remove existing flooring or old tiles and replace drywall. Tile prices range from $1 to more than $50 per square foot — handmade ones are even priced individually — depending on the material. Rustic, handmade or special-use tiles cost more to install because they must be applied to the surface one by one, rather than in a sheet. For most jobs, tile installation costs are based on the square footage of the project. For example, a standard 6-foot by 8-foot shower tile installation can average $1,200-$1,600, depending on whether the tiles go to the top of the shower or to the ceiling. The total cost of a tiling project also includes the grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps, and tile mounting materials like backer board.
