Great work! Brandon and his crew did great work (and he knew his trees) and I will be hiring Training Trees for more tree work. I needed a lot of deadwood removed from a large maple in my front yard and Training Trees did an excellent job. The maple looks so much better and is safer now and no evidence of tree trimming was left on the ground. I am very pleased with the work, I highly recommend Training Trees.

I have an older home with very tall mature trees. I had Triton remove two large pear trees that were hanging over my house and garage. They ground the stumps and also trimmed a birch tree. They did exactly what I asked them to do and made recommendations for potential future work. Communication was great and the cost was competitive. I would hire them again.

Will and his team / family did an AMAZING job on our trees. We had a considerable amount of dead limbs hanging high up in the trees as well as unsightly limbs that just needed a good manicure. I think these guys are actually artist as well as very hard workers. My husband appreciated the job they did as well and even tipped them which he something doesn't take lightly. No other tree service will ever get my tree business except Breckenridge Tree Service. Thanks guys for a job well done!!

I was very impressed with Jeremy and his crew's professionalism and friendliness . Jeremy was very knowledgeable about what needed to be done and explained it for me. Other tree trimmers had only advised taking the whole tree, I however, wanted to save as much of the tree as possible. We had planted it when we first bought the house in 1971 and it is the only shade in our front yard. Jeremy was able to do just that. I was so pleased with his response and his knowledge. I now have my tree, without the dangerous limbs. They were very reasonable in price and excellent in precision of work and clean up. If or when I need any more tree services I will definitely call on Yard Sharks LLC,

These guys are masters at what they do. My very large tree was in a hard to reach place between a major power line and a deep concrete drainage ditch with consideration given to a neighbor's fence and another's evergreen trees. A number of tree trimmers would not touch this job, but Chad, Paul and their team took it on without hesitation. Since they were at the house, I had them trim a big oak in the front yard and because another tree was in the way, they asked first, then removed it for me with no extra charge. The team is professional and the climber is so skilled at what he does it is hard not to watch him all the time. They cut and hauled off all of the downed trees and after Paul ground the stumps, they cleaned up the areas better than a homeowner would do. Do not even consider another company, these are your guys!!

The company was responsive to the request, the price was very reasonable and they did a great job - especially on cleaning up after doing the job. I wasn't home and did not have any issues with the company. The only thing that I was "surprised" with was how high the company raised the "canapy" of the trees in the yard; otherwise very pleased with the outcome.

Josh Graber with Bold Outdoors landscaped my front and back yards over the last 5 years. We continue to use Josh year after year because of his quality of work, responsiveness, and his knowledge of the industry which allows him to make suggestions and recommendations that are always spot on. Josh has installed landscaping plants, trees, lighting, and a fire pit for me and I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for high quality landscaping services at a reasonable price.

They were very quick to respond to me, came out the next day for an estimate, and the next day after that to do the job. They are very knowledgeable and know how to get the job done safely. They are also very reasonable with price. They were even nice enough to haul away some other limbs we had from a previous tree trimming. I would definitely use them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
