"Hello and thank you for considering me as your teacher! Are you looking to improve upon your abilities? Are you looking for motivation? Are you hoping to find a teacher who can provide a balance between discipline and fun? Are you looking to find a teacher who will teach you the music YOU want to learn? I have over 20 years teaching experience, working in many venues, including K-12 public schools, private lessons and university instruction. Currently, I am a Graduate Teaching Fellow in music theory at the University of Oregon, where I teach undergraduate music theory and ear training. I am also an experienced performer, having worked and toured with bands who are currently a part of the national country music scene, along with those who have established themselves in the Los Angeles music scene. I am also a classically trained guitarist. I have earned bachelor's degrees in Music Education and Guitar Performance. I hope to share my strong passion for the guitar and Music Theory with you, and assist you to reach all of your learning goals. For me, teaching is one of the most exciting aspects of my career, and I look forward to giving you all the tools you need to learn exactly what you wish. I love teaching! I have been interested in teaching since age 5, when I set up a small classroom in my parents' basement. Since then, I have been privileged to teach in three states, at the University of Colorado, and also to maintain my own private teaching studio. Teaching is not something that I look at as a stop-gap job - teaching is my main focus. I enjoy sharing the gift of guitar and music with my students, helping to assist each and every student to a new "ah ha" moment with each lesson, while propelling each student to reach their ultimate goals."

"Steve offers online lessons via Lessonface and in-person lessons in the Hudson Valley, NY area for bass guitar, guitar, drums, music theory/ear training, and recording music. He can also transcribe music and create sheet music if you need songs charted out or parts transcribed. Steve has been playing and studying bass, guitar, drums, piano, various styles of music, music theory, ear training, and other instruments going on 15 years. Steve's mindful, compassionate, and experiential based approach to teaching caters to anyone who wants to learn an instrument and anyone who enjoys being motivated and inspired to continue on their musical journey. Steve is a graduate of Naropa University (Boulder, CO) with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. He is also an alumni of Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he studied the bass guitar along with topics such as music theory, ear training, piano, harmony, arranging, jazz improvisation and the study of other instruments. Steve is currently gigging, recording, writing, and teaching music in the Hudson Valley, NY area. He is currently playing and gigging with various projects that range in styles from Soul to Jazz to Rock and Pop, with various other genres covered (R&B, Groove, Fusion, Funk). With a current location in New Windsor, NY, Steve is able to host lessons, travel to you, or you can learn from the comfort of your own home with his online lessons via Lessonface. He is also part time in Westchester, NY teaching and playing. Steve uses a stable program called zoom for all online lessons. This ensures that the quality of the video will be good and that you will be able to communicate one on one through online lessons. He has several online students right now and it works very well for the students. He provides written and visual materials to aid in each lesson to ensure that that student is clear about what they're working on and to have things to work on between each meeting. Steve is currently a teacher at New Windsor Music Academy in New Windsor, NY and has also worked at Paul Green’s Rock Academy in Woodstock, NY and Croton Harmon Music Academy in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. I really enjoy working with each musician on a case by case basis and helping them to work towards their goals. From teaching technique, how to learn songs, and catering to each individuals inspiration, I really enjoy watching students find their groove, progress, and feel elated as they perform their favorite music and gain confidence in their craft."

"Whether you are just starting out or a complete master, cultivating your love of music by playing an instrument is a gift. It is my mission to pass along that gift, and develop in my students, a lifelong passion in playing and creating music. I have over 25 years of guitar playing under my belt, 10 years of teaching experience and a B.A. in Music to boot! I played guitar in a bunch of bands and currently play bass in Light Creates Shadow, a rock band here in Portland, OR. I love music of all styles and am passionate about passing along my music knowledge to my students. In addition to private lessons, I am currently a guitar/bass instructor at Oregon Music Academy with students of all ages and skill levels. Your custom lesson plans will include the following: Technique - You will learn proper playing technique to ensure accurate playing as well as an injury-free career. The Fretboard - Learn notes, scales, arpeggios and know your way around your instrument. Harmony - Learn how to play chords, how to write music using chords, chord inversions and more. Musicianship - Music theory, improvisation, songwriting, sight-reading, and everything an aspiring guitarist needs. Progress Reports (Checkpoints) - Don't worry, this isn't a report card! This is just a check in every so often to remind us how far we have come and where we want to go from here. My teaching style is based on the following core values: Encouragement Motivation Achievable Goals Patience Passion Engagement FUN!!! Your success as a musician is my main priority and I will do my absolute best to guide you along your path. Shoot me a message and we can get started immediately :) Reviews from students: By Josh S. on 3/9/2019 Bass Guitar Student Jered continues to be a fantastic teacher. He took the time to get to know what my goals are, he gives me good feedback, and he assigns me "homework" that is relevant and helpful to my progress. We focus on both the technique of playing bass as well as the purpose and "feel" of the bass in different songs. I have fun at my lessons and look forward to them every week, and my bass playing continues to improve. By David B. on 11/19/2018 Bass Guitar Student Jered is a thoughtful and knowledgeable teacher. I look forward to continuing my work with him. By Ken H. on 11/1/2018 Guitar, In-home Jered was on time. Very cordial. Was very open to my Expectations. After 2 lessons I’m invigorated and already finding new strategies for this project."
