Our experience of moving with Moving Pros was nothing short of excellent. Setting up the details of the move with Cole was easy. When the movers Branden and Caleb arrived right on time they were ready to get to work, even after doing 2 moves before ours in 100 degree heat. We were very impressed with their professionalism and the care they took with our furniture. We cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely use Moving Pros again when needed.

Harold's Hauling greatly exceeded my expectations. I expected large items to be hauled off, but the two gentlemen providing their service went far beyond that and left my vacated rental completely empty of all debris left by the tenant. I highly recommend the use of Harold's Hauling and Moving Co. You'll be in the hands of two friendly individuals who are eager to get the job done to perfection at a very reasonable price.

We were extremely anxious about our upcoming move after experiencing a HORRIBLE previous move. We met with four different companies in preparation for our current move. Josh Curtis of Courtesy Movers impressed us the most. Josh was friendly and professional from the start. We reviewed online ratings/feedback for each bid we received and Coutesy Movers recieved the most and best responses. Our move was a rather large task requiring three trucks, six men, and 12 hours, and plenty of big/heavy/bulky items. Josh and his team were punctual and repared! This entire team was professional while still maintaining a friendly vibe with not only us, but within their own group. During the entire 12 plus hours, we heard zero complaints, zero profanity, and they took ONE 30 minute "lunch break" at 4pm!! Not even a smoking break!! We are over 1/3 of the way unpacking and have not encountered one damaged/broken item! Our last move (well known national company) resulted in thousands of dollars/multiple items destroyed/damaged. If we ever are in need of help again, we will NOT hesitate to hire Courtesy Movers. Thank you to Josh (boss), Blake (crew leader), Greg, Anthony, Ed, Arthur, and Josh (crew member)!!! We couldn't have done it without you all!!!!

They did what they promised when they promised at the prices they promised. I never felt scammed or held hostage. They did underestimate the amount of goods to be packed and delivered, so I ended up moving some myself. The bulk of the house was delivered with extreme care. They wrapped and padded all furniture and no damage was noted! I had only 3 minor damages that I didn’t even claim. Two were permanent marker marks from the packers on new carpet. One was a handrail that got scratched moving a couch up stairs. The staff was very responsive and the sales staff member actually came to my house to do packing! All were young and new, but energetic and worked hard to make my experience a positive one. I realize they are a local mover and couldn’t handle my large house so, I was pleased. Would have been a 5 rating if they could have taken ALL my household goods.

I had to change the day yet the message didn't get to the movers. They were so nice and confirmed the new date. The second set of movers were helpful , friendly, worked quickly. We paid them the mover charge and tip...later finding out that was not the way to arrange . payment. The moving company charges our credit card. Kindly, the moving company took care of this for us and vowed to improve communication on this issue.

Wow! Blown away by this team. I was ready to pay more for a regular moving company when I found Piano Solution. They were less expensive and had the right equipment for the job. They were prompt and professional. Got me set-up and tuned the piano. Don't mess with other movers or anything for your pianos. These guys can move and tune your piano in one go.

I hired Axiss to move my pool table and I couldn’t be more happy!!! I quoted all over the Kansas City area and they were the cheapest and now I know the best!!!! They were great about scheduling and working out a time that works for everyone!! They answered all the questions that I had as we had never moved the table like this before. I appreciate their customer service a lot and the way that the movers are respectful of their clients, not only did they call me to let me know they might ‘possibly’ be late, they WEREN’T, they were on time, efficient, very professional and QUICK!!! They are also super clean making sure that none of the glue got on my floor. Making sure that both my husband and I were completely happy with the position of the table. And they let me know what issues I was having with the table and gave me an option through their company to fix them if I wanted to. This is the best company that could move your table for you!!! I believe in word of mouth and I highly recommend them!!!!

Very impressed with the quality job AFWAT movers did...especially for being so reasonable & fair. I had a inique situation that was a little beyond a typical house move. Other companies decided it wasn't worth their effort? But John worked with me & did all he could to provide great service with fair pricing. Love businesses who aren't shy to think outside the box & go above & beyond to serve their community as best they can ????

Jesse and Mike were a dynamic duo! Jesse returned my call the same day, gave me an honest, fair quote, and was very professional. The guys actually finished under quote time. They loaded our 3BR townhome securely within 2 hours, completing the entire job in under 5 hours. (45 min travel to new home) Jesse and Mike took care of our belongings as though they were theirs. They were friendly and personable, even fielding questions from our inquisitive 6 yr old son. We added some gratuity, which was well-deserved! They helped make our move stress-free and light-hearted. It was so nice to talk to a small business, after trying to get through to many of he bigger companies, who's prices rose because of a short notice move date (just over a week). Not so with this company. Thank you, KC Movers! First class business!!!!

Trust me when I say, Ashley and her team were fantastic. My original movers cancelled at 8:00 am the morning of the move, I got into contact with her and she was able to find a way to squeeze me in with her team at 2:30 that day! I was worried about time to get to my storage and she made a promise and did not fall short of it. Thank you again, they have a great team and did an amazing job!!

I needed a mover at the last minute and really didn't think I would get anyone to help me out on such short notice. They responded quickly and found a time to fit me into their schedule. They came and worked quickly and was professional and friendly eventhough it was the end of the day. I would work with them again.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

      • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
      • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
      • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
      • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
      • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.
