Event Help and Wait Staff, Bartending

Chris was the perfect bartender for my wedding. Not only does Chris have years of experience and comes fully prepared to work any bar but he also added a lot of personality to our event. We had an open bar and Chris helped me to perpare for what I should purchase in advance for the amount of people I had coming. He showed up early to help me set everything up and stayed late to make sure the bar area of the venue was left just as when we arrived. Hire Chris for your event and I promise you will have one less thing to have to worry about at your event. We haven't got our photos back yet but I will be adding some as soon as I have them. The bar was easily the most popular area of our wedding. Thanks again Chris!See more

Event Help and Wait Staff, Bartending

I was served by Arielle in two different places in nyc. The Mean Fiddler in the theater district and every time I came to the Mean Fiddler, I was greeted with a smile and she knew what I was having to drink and when I was hungry, Arielle had more than a few suggestions on what I should or how hungry I was. Always very relaxed and professional regardless of the time of the day and anyone that has bartended in the ny theater district on a late Saturday afternoon into evening before a Broadway performance knows how loud and very very busy it can get. And could find any sporting events on tv if they weren’t already on. The second place where Arielle was a bartender at was Barcelona bar in nyc within walking distance from Central Park and Time Warner Center. Very different from the Mean Fiddler less touristy and more people that worked and lived in the area. Know for specialty cocktails with names like “Fat Elvis”, “Cinnamon Toast Crunch”, “Pineapple Upside Down cake”, “The Three Amigos” “Donkey Punch” “Harry Potter” and many more colorful names and delicious flavors each one. Always awesome, forever cool and always fun and I have had the pleasure of seeing Arielle more than a few times when she was not behind the bar and her infectious personality and beautiful smile is welcoming and friendly. If I owned a bar ( and I have worked in a few bars and drank in more than a few bars here in ny and the west coast) I would have her on the staff in a ny minute. Have a great day. Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to hire a bartender for a private party?

Hiring a bartender for a private party typically costs between $270 and $390 in total. On an hourly basis, expect to pay at least $40 to $60 per hour, as well as a flat fee. How much you’ll pay, however, depends on the time of year or day, the size of the party and other factors. Get in touch with a few bartenders near you and request a free estimate — it’s the only way to get an accurate idea of how much private bartending services will cost you.

Check out “How much does it cost to hire a bartender?” to learn more about the cost factors.

Do bartenders need to be licensed?

Certain counties, cities and states may require licensing. Check your local government’s regulations before starting your search.

In many cases, you might want to choose a bartender who has a license and/or certification. If you’re considering hiring a bartender for an upcoming event or a special occasional, check their online profiles to find out what credentials they have. If you can’t find the information online, don’t hesitate to ask them directly when requesting to receive free estimates.

How do I find a good bartender?

Put some time on your calendar to research and compare top-rated bartenders near you online. Start by looking at their ratings and services. For example, some bartending services will provide a waitstaff, glassware, ice, coolers, food and more.

Next, look at their photos of past events and read the customer reviews. Find feedback on the bartenders’ services. Did they offer fair pricing? Did they show up on time to set up? Did they bring all of the appropriate drinks, cups, supplies and decorations? Did they interact politely with the party guests and provide a pleasant overall experience? And did they do the agreed-upon cleanup afterward?

Narrow down your top choices, and start contacting the bartenders. Ask for cost estimates for your event, and tell them how many people will be attending, what type of event it is and what services you require. You should also ask them questions about their experience.

Bartenders may need a license in your state, county or city to work at a private party. Make sure they’re properly certified before you hire anyone.
