Gus has helped me improve my chess game and has a wonderful approach to teaching. Gus will take the time to know his students and tailors his teaching style in order to get the best results for them. I highly recommend working with him. My lessons are relaxed but professional, and I learn alot in the hour we meet. It has been a great experience.

Gus gave chess lessons to my 3 children last year. One of the children was experienced and the other 2 were novices. We had to do the lessons over zoom because we live on St Louis. Gus was very professional and prompt with us. He gave each child his full attention and gave them age appropriate homework. They all 3 progressed in their chess skills. My older son, who had some experience, may even try out for his high school chess team.

My daughter took Chess lessons from Gus and they were really helpful for her. Gus is very knowledgable and explains the topics in a very easy manner. It was also not all talking by Gus which sometimes make the kids switch off as he was constantly asking her to explain on the reasoning behind her moves which made her think further.

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
It varies depending on the skill of the student but is generally between $30-40 an hour. I am open to negotiation.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We will talk about your goals, what chess you've done in the past, how much chess work you do a week, how much you would like to do, and review a selection of games (if applicable) together so I can understand you as a player. Then we will work on your game, reevaluate, and repeat!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teachings for 4 years in private lessons, the classroom, and coaching clubs. Additionally, I have been playing competitively for 6+ years and have learned a lot.
