From the beginning-to-end of my experience with Maintenance Solutions I was thoroughly-impressed. Rachel & Jeremy are a terrific team, who responded to my service requests with honesty, professionalism, both listening to understand my two plumbing needs (outdoor faucet replacement & related indoor plumbing alterations and shower faucet repair). Jeremy was on time; honored the home (with protective footwear - to prevent carpet and floor damage); performed all work quickly & efficiently; answered all my questions (before - during and after each project); thoroughly cleaned the work areas (not common with many plumbers); and made suggestions on how to have my plumbing needs met in a cost-efficient manner. I almost forgot...He informed me on how to properly use my water shut-off valve to avoid future repair needs. I will definitely call on them again and recommend them to others.

I had water spilling into my basement that was caused by a sewer line clog. The first dudebro plumber that came out made the problem WORSE and charged me over $430, which I will be salty about forever. He then recommended I replace my sewer line because the pipes were so old, they likely had tree roots growing in them, or they had collapsed or been crushed and were no longer functional for whatever reason. The job would take 3-4 Days (in which we’d be without water/sewer) and would cost $5,000 to $12,000. Ya’ll, I am a 39 year old widow with 2 young kids and that news nearly sent me to the funny farm, I literally COULD NOT. Mom came over for sympathy and told me to put my info into this Thumbtack thingy and I did so whilst crying like a 4 year old who just dropped their ice cream. Like 3 seconds later Joe calls me and immediately puts me at ease. He says he can fix it. He can do it a hell of a lot cheaper. And he can do it faster. Shut up and take my money, right? Less than 48 hours later he and his boys are at my house, digging up the traitorous sewer pipes. They work fast and when the sun goes down they bust out the lamps and flashlights and KEEP WORKING until the damn job is done. That very night my kids had baths, we flushed ALL the toilets without having to say prayers first, and I washed the dishes that had birthed their own ecosystem. And the best part was he charged me less than $3,000 with promises that he would be speaking to the city about their crappy pipes and might even stick a camera down there to see just what exactly was up. So tl;dr I have a new plumber, his name is Joe and he kicked my sewer clog’s ass. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

He and his crew showed up on time, 8:00AM in the morning. Though he had to go to Lowe's twice to get parts and tools, he finished work in just a couple of hours. He is an experienced plumber and his price is right. Will call him again for more works.

Overall I'm very satisfied. He was a little pricey for the job however the quality of the work is very good and perhaps I'm just stingy. He took one look at the site and knew exactly how to accomplish the task. He was very prompt, communicative, and quick. Additionally, he actually used Thumbtack as it was intended instead of giving me a canned "I'm a plumber, call me for quotes". He gave me a ballpark quote, then after answering a question or 2 we contacted over the phone for the rest.

My kids bathtub tub was draining incredibly slow (thanks to encouraging my daughter to paint- little did I know she had been pouring her used paints down the drain). After multiple failed attempts to fix it myself- I realized, I am not a plumber. Plus who wants to actually do this?! Oh wait...plumbers actually WANT to do this! They are trained & certified to deal with the messes we make! Polestar is extremely qualified in plumbing & heating & cooling. I should have made the phone call to them at the first sight of problems instead of causing myself a headache! Danny came out to diagnose the issue. Gave me a written proposal of the work that needed to be done -with upfront pricing even! I agreed to move forward with the repairs. Mike followed shortly after to do the repairs needed. Both guys were extremely respectful of my home, wore their shoe covers to prevent tracking in anything. Incredibly polite & communicated with me throughout the entire process. They genuinely cared about my problems, fixed it within a couple hours & we were good to go! The office staff answering the phones were wonderful as well. Great plumbers, technicans & office staff. I can not thank them enough!!!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What are plumbers and what do they do?

Plumbers are skilled professionals who are trained to install and maintain pipes and systems for drinking water, sewage and drainage. They usually have trained through four- to five-year training programs, which include apprenticeships, via trade schools and community colleges. Plumbers’ areas of expertise typically go beyond pipes to include mathematics, blueprint reading, plumbing codes and water distribution. They handle plumbing emergencies, such as broken pipes or clogged drains, and install and maintain everything from a new piping system to a replacement faucet. Plumbers also know how to install bathtubs and showers, toilets, water heaters and dishwashers. Plumbers may work on residential or commercial sites, sometimes designing and laying out a pipe system during construction.

How do you find a good plumber?

Whether you need a plumber to perform drain repair, install a new fixture, or replace rusty pipes, you need to make sure you hire someone reliable who will finish your job on time and within budget. Start by asking the plumbers on your short list these questions:

      • What is the total cost? Make sure your estimate includes materials and labor. Find out whether the plumber will be providing the materials and whether you’re being charged an hourly rate (which is variable) or a flat fee.
      • Is removal and cleanup included in the job? Some plumbers leave behind old parts, while others include the cleanup in the cost.
      • Is the work guaranteed? Find out whether the work (as well as the parts or fixtures) are guaranteed under a warranty.
