Donnie, Dennis, and Chris of Sidebottom Home Improvements are the most professional, honest, and customer oriented team I have ever had the opportunity to work with. From the contract, price quote, to the end of completion with my home improvements which were numerous and included painting my exterior of my home with trim, staining three decks/porches and painting my barn size shed, these guys worked tirelessly and with committed dedication from start to finish to complete my requirements and went above and beyond my expectations to satisfy my wishes as a customer. Their work is second to none and I will use them for all my improvement projects and would highly recommend them to anyone! While working on my project, they received more job proposals while in our small city of Ramona, KS. Awesome guys who care only about the customer's satisfaction and excellent quality work at great prices. Thank You for an outstanding job and great work ethics!!!!!

I highly recommend this company. I hired M&R Remodeling to replace my front porch floor and skirting, which was mostly rotted. Mark was very prompt in his response to my request for a bid. His bid was reasonable. He scheduled the work promptly. He and his crew showed up early on the day scheduled and kept me informed about the progress of the construction. They hauled off all the scrap and left a beautiful finished porch. I will definitely be hiring M&R Remodeling for all my remodeling and repair needs.

Mr. Jones gave me a great quote for a small concrete job consisting of replacing two slabs in front of my porch steps and repairing a step. He and his son worked diligently on the job and left only one time to pick up the cement which he mixed onsite. He is a man of integrity, did an outstanding job and I plan to hire him again to replace a concrete walk along the side of my home. I will also recommend him to others. Thank you Mr. Jones for being a man of honesty and working hard on a small job as though it was a large job.

We had our foundation repaired, a room rebuilt from foundation to roof, a new door installed, finishing trim work around windows and painted primer on all exposed new wood on outside of house. Workers were always on time and very courteous. I will be using them in the future.

I have hired Artzer's Home Improvement for several jobs at my home. He remodeled my bathroom, built a carport, covered my existing porch in cedar and replaced my porch posts, built privacy fence along one side and the back of my back yard, installed ceiling fans and a bathroom fan. My husband was stationed in South Korea for the Army and Luke completed all these projects professionally. My home looks great and all the neighbors came over and commented on what a great job he did. He is also very fast and jobs weren't drawn out for several day. It's getting time to think about some new projects. Thanks Luke!

We had rented out our previous home for fourteen years. It had gotten very run down during that time. Mark installed all new LED light fixtures, new doors, new flooring, new fencing, a new front porch, new landscaping, new second deck, and a host of other repairs. We sold it for above asking price. Mark's a great guy with a tremendous work ethic and commitment to his customers. I'm now utilizing him with reoairs on my present home as well.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who is a carpenter and what do they do?

Carpenters are skilled craftsmen who build things out of wood. Depending on what the carpenter builds, they may be referred to by various names. A framer is a carpenter who puts up the framing on a house. A trim or finish carpenter installs the finishing touches of prefabricated or custom trim and detail work once a house has been built and the walls are up. A furniture maker or woodworker builds furniture — such as tables, beds and dressers — out of wood. A cabinetmaker is a carpenter who builds custom and semi-custom wood cabinets. If you’re having a home built or remodeled, your general contractor will either provide or subcontract the carpentry work for the framing, cabinets and trim. You can hire a carpenter directly to update the trim in your home, build you a piece of custom furniture, or repair or replace your wood cabinets.

      Do carpenters build houses?

Carpenters are trained to work with wood. That means that any part of your home that is built of wood is very likely to involve a carpenter. Framing carpenters will put up the wood that makes up the bones of your home. If you’re having a wood floor installed, it may be done by a carpenter — although being a carpenter is not a requirement to install flooring. Trim, baseboards, wainscoting and any other detail work is typically installed by a finish carpenter. The wood boxes of custom cabinets will be built and installed by a carpenter.

Although all of these components in your new or remodeled home are built by carpenters who specialize in building things with wood, a general contractor typically oversees construction of the entire house. If the general contractor is also a carpenter skilled in all these areas, they may well construct your entire home. More often, the general contractor subcontracts out the various building stages to different individuals, including carpenters.
