Question and answer

Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

A. I'm a free-lance web site designer with over 10 years of experience. I have the experience to build both Flash and HTML sites ... for a lot less $$$ than design companies or firms. I have clients in Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Missouri.

Three to Six page informational websites are only $400 - why would you pay more?

Please look through my portfolio at some of the many satisfied clients I've built websites for. I will work with you until we find the custom design (website) you need. I also specialize in custom Flash designs - where as many companies don't.

When building a web site for clients, it's very important to know something about the search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN (Bing), etc...). There are literally THOUSANDS of people that claim to know the secrets on how to get your website listed on the "first page of Google". I get emails on a daily basis with these types of claims - mostly from individuals in other states.

Here is something to remember before you decide to pay someone that makes these claims:
There are NO proven techniques to get you listed on the first page! If there were, Google (and other search engines) would not be selling Pay-Per-Click advertisements (the ads you see at the very top or on the right side of the page). There definately ARE techniques that will help you get listed for free - further up and hopefully on the first page of the organic listings. But one trick that works one week, may not work the next week or month.

I've done SEO Marketing for almost 10 years now, so I know many of the techniques to get you listed organically. I will code your home page, as well as verify your website on all the major search engines.

Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?

A. One of the best ways to get your web site listed organically from the start is when you purchase your domain name. Do NOT purchase a generic domain name - look for one that has something to do with your line of work or business.

Example: Let's say you have a part-time lawn mowing business, and people know you as John Smith. You've been handing out business cards as "John Smith, LLC" for some time now - so you buy the domain name www.JohnSmithLLC.com - Guess what? Google isn't going to associate your domain name with lawn mowing - and won't know how to categorize your domain.

When buying a domain name (as I stated above), look for something more specific - www.JohnSmithLawnMowing.com or www.JSmithLandscaping.com - the more specific and closely related to what you do, the better your web site will be listed organically.

Q. What questions should a consumer ask to hire the right service professional?

A. You’ve decided you need a website, and now it’s time to plan it. A well-defined plan will help you to create a successful website design that will support your business.

Identify your target market and website goals
Determine your ideal clients. What are their needs and how can you use your website to cater to them? Consider... is your goal to provide information to customers, generate leads or close sales?

Identify the competition
Review competitive websites. Get an idea of what you like and dislike. Use this information to make your website stand out from theirs.

Consider the size of your website and the functionality needed. How many pages should your website have? Some standard pages are: Home, About Us, Products/Services, How We Work, Portfolio, Testimonials, FAQs, News, Privacy Policy, Contact Us. How would you like your website to function? Do you want online forms or payment processing?

How will you drive traffic to your website?
In order for your website to be successful you need to promote it via traditional advertising or online advertising on a consistent basis.
Looking for fast results and willing to pay for it? Try Pay-Per-Click advertising on Google Adwords, or links from other websites (like Thumbtack.com).

Consider your budget
It’s important to think about your budget. As with anything, you get what you pay for. Look for the company that has the best portfolio and best value for the price. Remember: You're the client!

Q. What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?

A. My dedication to quality, commitment to custom design, and focus on superior professionalism and much less prices set me apart. Before finding me, many of my clients have found that "design firms" charge much higher prices (3 or 4 times more) for website design projects. I suppose this explains the fact that my customers are so anxious to give me high praise. I have an extensive list of Wichita based references that are always happy to recommend me.
