Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: I come from a science background having a Master's of Science and studied animal behavior extensively throughout undergrad and grad school. I believe in science supported training methods. I am also a trainer of trainers since I am faculty at the Animal Behavior Institute teaching future (and current) trainers in courses such as Canine Behavior, Canine Training, Training Your Therapy Dog, Animal Behavior and I am in the process of re-writing their Animal Training course. It is very rewarding to help owners understand what their dog is trying to tell them and how they can effectively communicate with their dogs creating an everlasting bond. I have literally saved dogs' lives. Many owners were ready to surrender them to shelters or may have had to euthanize them due to aggression issues. It's also wonderful to see an owner and their dog actually be able to take walks together stress-free since it was once such a horrible experience.

Cherie is amazing! She has many ideas/suggestions in using the correct techniques for my dog. Not every dog is the same & requires varies techniques. My GSD & I look forward in continuing training w/ her! We are happy to have found her.

Very friendly, our dogs loved her. She had great tips for how we could be better dog parents and was really helpful with loose leash walking techniques. The followup email detailing everything we had talked about was very beneficial. I would recommend Cherie!

I had Cherie come to help evaluate whether my newly adopted husky was in fact looking at my small dogs as possible prey, so that I could be sure to keep the little ones safe. Her observation and insight was very helpful to me, helping me understand what Cherie was looking at and how to interpret it. She reduced my level of fear for my little ones, and helped me develop a plan for my husky's happiness. My husky had had little training at all in her previous home, and she also has always been an outdoors-only dog, which is her preference, but I've worried about her loneliness since she doesn't get as much interaction as the indoor dogs get -- so I've had Cherie continue to come and work with her on various tasks and activities, and my dog just loves it. She looks like a gleeful child when Cherie comes, and together they certainly demonstrate that an old dog can most definitely learn new things. I am totally satisfied, and consider Cherie an important and valued member of my dog-care team of professionals. Thanks, Cherie. Vicki R.

Cherie has gone above and beyond! I have a beagle who is afraid of everything and everyone. She's a great dog but was putting herself in danger on nightly walks to flee from strangers. Cherie came to our house twice and met us in our favorite walking area. Because of her guidance, there is improvement and my dog is now more confident in many aspects. If you need help Cherie is the person you call.

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I think this is critical in this field. A dog trainer that claims they know everything about dogs is greatly mistaken. The canine science research field has just finally exploded and we are learning new things about dogs on a continuing basis. There are also always new techniques, products, and insights into how best to treat common (or even uncommon) behavior problems. It is necessary that I continue my education to keep my certification. I must earn 36 continuing education credits every 3 years to renew my certification.
