I am woefully late in leaving this review, unlike Kent was in installing my new door! I was getting ready to sell my house, and the back door didn't even open all the way, it was so lopsided. Kent took the whole door and frame off the house, rebuilt the frame, and installed a brand new, amazing door (that he picked out for me with shutters INSIDE the window, so cool). The door worked and looked perfect. No one ever needed to know what it was like before. He and his work partner were so professional--they showed up when they said they would, worked diligently and efficiently the whole time, and charged a reasonable amount for the work (even less than I expected to pay). Kent is my #1 call for DIY projects that are too advanced for me. Thank you!

I needed two new in locations that didnt have them prior, and wire (electricity) ran for the installation of a sensor light for my backyard. Rob did a great job installing and repatching up the wall that needed to be. He did it all for a very fair price. I would absolutely use him again.

Palmetto Painting and Home Improvement LLC was the number one pick for the job out of numerous inquiries due to the numerous repairs needed within the house. Their prices and commitment to giving us a great price that we could afford seemed as if it was just as important to them as it was to us. The crew was very professional and knowledgeable on every aspect of the house from garbage disposal repairs, door frame replacement, porch and deck repairs, pressure washing, and painting to very small repairs such as holes in walls and simple toilet repairs. The fact that no job was to big or small was an amazing plus that i loved about this crew. They were very punctual and wasted no time getting started or completing jobs. There is no doubt they have earned my respect and business from years to come. I have already bragged about their work and showed it off to numerous neighbors and friends because the work is just that damn good. You wont be disappointed. I would strongly recommend their service to any and everyone.

Planning, preparation and installation of my back patio. John gave me several ideas and showed me options/inspiration pictures that were all within my budget. I decided on 2' x 2' concrete pavers, stamped concrete edging, and smooth pebble fill. I COULD NOT BE MORE PLEASED with the final product! John's attention to detail made my patio even more beautiful than my inspiration photo. The project was completed on time, too... So I've been able to enjoy it all summer. Fun to receive so many compliments from my neighbors!

I was looking for a handyman and home cleaning service for my rental property in Clarksville area. Mr. Mike Bell quickly responded and provided me an affordable estimate for the jobs needed to be done. I told him that my rental property needed to be move-in ready in couple of days. He was able to work on my home the very next day. Mr. Bell is very nice!!! Not only he did an excellent job on my home, he also went above and beyond!! Thank you so much Mr. Bell!! Here is the list of the jobs that were accomplished over the weekend: -Repaired and re-secured deck, handrails, steps & main post -Patched hole in bedroom wall -Fixed toilet and replaced toilet seats. -Replaced mini blinds -Cleaned the kitchen appliances and cabinets -Cleaned walls, baseboards, window and sill. -Swept and mopped kitchen floor, living room area and hallway -Vacuumed the bedrooms and closet -Power washed front door, front entrance, porch, and steps. - Swept out garage. - Removed trash and debris He is such an affordable excellent handyman that I’m making him my go-to handyman for repairs, painting and cleaning services. :) I also recommended him to my property management. My property manager Debbie from ReMax love his work and personality that she added him on her contact list. Marla Francisco

I hired Extreme Exteriors to install a metal roof on my workshop and attached carport. I was very satisfied with their workmanship and the materials they used and I also think their price was fair. I requested a change to the agreed-upon contract when they were nearly finished with the installation and they cheerfully complied with my wishes. They completed the job in one day instead of the two days I was told to expect. My only issue was that I found more than a few fasteners around the work area after they left, which I felt could have been eliminated with a magnetic sweep of the area. (Not a deal breaker and I'm confident they would have returned had I bothered to call - good folks!)

Michael and Shane originally came to us through an ad we had posted on Craigslist, basically looking for general construction help... We were thrilled to hear that they had a bit of experience, but have consistently been blown away by their performance, so to speak! The quality of their work is flawless, they work hard, and give everything they have into the job they are working on! In our studio, they've installed drop-in ceilings, glue-down carpet, interlocking vinyl floors, cabinets and counters, and so much more... I continue to be impressed with their work, even if there is something they don't have much experience with, they find a way to learn and put forth skillful craftsmanship! Love these guys, and would recommend them for any job! All around great guys, great attitudes, great demeanors, great energy!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

      • Trim repair:
        • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
        • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
      • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
      • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
        • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
        • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
          • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
