Introduction: Are you interested in piano lessons? I have successfully taught piano to all ages and levels, beginner to advanced, for 34 years. Lesson curriculum includes theory, as well as traditional studies in classical music. I also offer studies in jazz and improvisation. My private studio is located at Don Wilson Music Co. on Southland Drive. I also serve as the piano program director at the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, a public magnet school, where I have taught for the last 15 years. Please contact me if you have any questions, or would be interested in signing up for private lessons. The average run time for each lesson is 30 minutes, at a cost of ninety-two dollars per month (twenty-three dollars per lesson). My qualifications and performance experience: I have performed extensively throughout the Lexington area as a solo pianist in addition to performing in various rock, pop, and jazz ensembles. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree (1978), as well as a Master of Music degree (1990), both from the University of Kentucky. In the past, I have had the opportunity to study composition under American composer Joe Baber and pianists Jay Flippin (jazz piano) and Patricia Montgomery (classical piano). In addition, I perform with Angie Sanders and Marty Walker. Angie Sanders handles the vocal duties, while I am featured on piano and keyboards. Our sound is rounded out with the recent addition of Marty Walker on drums and percussion (who also performs with the very popular Johnson Brothers Band). As a duo (or trio), our sound can best be described as a mix of jazz, blues, some Motown, and hip contemporary tunes. The music swings with a fresh energy and yet can be laid back, with a nice, mellow groove. It is music that is easy to listen to and readily familiar, consisting of an array of classic, jazz standards, as well as unique interpretations of modern, pop music. The style is guaranteed to please a variety of musical tastes. It is energetic and lively and yet not overpowering, and can be especially suited to a more intimate setting, if required. Either way, Dave, Angie, and Marty can provide your establishment or soiree with a very entertaining mix of swinging, dynamic music and good times, guaranteed to please just about everyone. I am also available as a soloist, mainly performing jazz and pop standards on the piano. If your function or soiree requires a more relaxed and intimate sound, please feel free to contact me to discuss your event. My private studio location: Don Wilson Music Co., 275 Southland Drive, Lexington, KY

FAQs

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

I think for any potential client or student, it is important to ask the obvious questions first. Those being, what are your academic credentials and how many years have you been successfully engaged in the service(s) you are offering? I can only answer for myself of course. I have both a Bachelor and a Masters Degree in Music from the University of Kentucky. I have taught privately and in the public school system for 35 years and 15 years respectively. I have also performed regularly in the area for the last 40 years. I hope both experiences help to make me a logical and satisfactory choice for your musical needs.
